Has Your Car's Value Changed?
Used car values are constantly changing. Edmunds lets you track your vehicle's value over time so you can decide when to sell or trade in.
No reliability
When most everything starts to wear out after only four years and 60,000 miles you know that you either have a lemon or there is a reliability issue. Brakes are terrible. They wear out too fast--pads and rotors and for four wheel disc they do not stop the vehicle like they should. The engine uses too much oil. Air conditioner, radio antenna, electronic level control, door locks, door window motor, egr valve, and the list goes on and on. We even had the driver side headlight lens blow off while going down the highway.
98 Cadillac performance and comfort
We use the car for long road trips, we enjoy the comfort, and space for luggage. Gas mileage is superb when you drive at or near the speed limit. We have had very little repairs to make to this car. An alternator once but nothing else except one set of tires and normal service., every 3k miles.

My 2nd DeVille
I bought this DeVille with 137,000 miles on the odometer. I can attest that I am loving this car. It had great care, and still does. I get great mileage of upwards of 34 mpg @ 67 mph. Who else can do that with 275hp and 4,000lbs? It is roomy and elegant, yet I can get up and go when needed. I am looking forward to my 3rd Cadillac someday.
My dream car
When I retired I bought my dream car, 1998 Cadillac DeVille. What a nightmare it has turned out to be. I aquired the car with 43,000 miles on it. At 47,900 miles I replaced the battery for $133.76 and a battery cable for $129.38 parts and $272.00 labor. At 49,600 miles I replaced the spark plugs for $84.40 parts and $205.49 labor as well as the AC compressor for $669.30 parts and $401.49 labor. At 61,000 miles I replaced the HVAC blower motor for $348.60 parts and $81.48 labor. This labor cost was low since I refused to use a Cadillac dealer. Cadillac OEM parts costs and Cadillac dealer labor cost are extremely expensive. I will be selling my dream car since I refuse to be victimized anymore.
Nice but beware
This is the nicest driving car ever. The motor is more than powerful, and the ride is silent. BUT, General Motors has short warranty periods for a reason. There is a lot that goes wrong in the vehicles midlife, so beware. Check engine lights are common and can be easily cured by a small piece of black tape. If you want a great car for the first 40k miles, this is it. If you want longevity in a car, this isn't it.
