Good First Time Car

I bought this car as my first (and so far only) car my sophomore year of high school. Bought at $600 and since then have put on new tires, starter, water pump and only one major repair over $100. Have only put about 9,000 mile son it, and I just creeped over 103,000 about 2 weeks ago. It's been a great car, gets me where I need it, the air still works beautifully, and it has some pick-up too with the 3.3 V6 automatic. I'm in the process of doing a mileage test but I usually only fill up every 2-3 weeks depending on how much I drive around. Well built car for a first ride.

I purchased a 1992 Century form along side the road from a little elder lady in 2007. It had 76,000 miles on it, I was like what a find. It had the opitinal 3.3liter v6 though that was a smart choice in my book. I had the car for about 4 months. I then turned the car over to my mother she loves the thing. It made the road trip to PA from South Carolina in 10hrs at aprox. 85 miles an hour the whole way never missed a beat the whole way. You should have seen the looks you get when you pass the BMW's on the interstate. Over all she has gotten it to 116,000 miles no probs. Great for $900

GREAT CAR

I have had this car for 10 of its 20+ years of life. It has been extremely reliable. The most costly problem was when the ac died. Other than that it has never failed me. The v6 is not refined but extremely reliable. After 20+ years I still get over 23mpg running to and from work. Cup holders would be nice but it is a basic bare bones get to work/school car.

I would recommend this car to anyone. Being that it is a wagon i wasn't willing to give it a chance at first but the car truly caught me by surprise and won me over. great power when you need and great gas mileage to match makes this car a diamond in the rough. its lacks in the looks department but nobody needs a beauty queen to go to drive-in.

I bought this car used in 1996 with 51000 miles on it. During the 7 years that I have owned this car there has been very few problems with it. The only major problem was the AC compressor went out at about 85,000 miles. There have been only minor things like the fan motor and has the power steering pump replaced at 90,000 miles. However, outside of that there has been only routine upkeep and maintaince done. This car still has great power when needed from the 3.3L 6 cylinder even after 113,000 miles.

Best car I ever had!

When I needed to buy a car in a hurry, a mechanic friend recommended this car which was being sold by the owner's estate. In over ten years of driving, it cost less than $1000 in repairs. When the car died in an accident, the motor and transmission were still excellent with over 350000kms (about 220000 miles) on the odometer. It made several trips through the Canadian Rockies and BC mountains towing my 14ft fibreglass trailer without a problem. In over forty years of driving this was the best car I owned for perfomance, reliability and value.

Best Car I've Ever Owned!

Well, I bought her 5 years ago when she had 92,000 miles. I paid $700. for her. I hated the fake wood trim but I trusted that I would get my money's worth. She only has 130,000 now but she will need to retire soon as the body is looking rough and repairs are finally starting. I am sure her engine and transmission would go to 200,000. Unlike the Mercury Sable I bought 2 years, this Buick has been a blessing in snow and in repairs. Other than routine maintenance, nothing has gone wrong.(The Sable looks nicer but is a piece of junk and at 130,000 miles, the engine is about to go!) I wish Buick was still making these little wagons. I love them!

I bought this car used in 2003 for about 2200. I had to do a few repairs at first but after that this car has been very reliable. It does what it is supposed to do, get you to your destination. My only beef which might just be this car is that the heat isn't good when its cold, the air is great when warm.

owned my 92 century for about 4 years now. i got it with 208,000 miles. in the past 4 years i've put under $500 into this car to keep it running (brakes, oil changes, cracked exhaust manifold, harmonic balancer, heater core, a couple of hoses.) all of these repairs were very easy and affordable to have repaired. the parts for this car are very cheap and easily found just about anywhere. this car is very comfortable with plenty of leg and cargo room. the trunk is huge and the back seat is so comforable, i've slept back there. this car has been incredibly reliable. no one can believe the mileage on it and how reliable it has been. i am planning on getting another buick when this one dies someday...

Bought this car from a friend for $700, and over 50,000 miles later I think I've got my money's worth. The only think I've replaced is a tire. There are no cupholders, the one that is standard will break. My cruise control was out when I brought it but for only city driving it doesn't bother me. Externally, its not much to look at, some rust spots, but internally this thing runs amazing. I expect it will last another 30k miles easily. Great first car for anybody.

The Most Reliable Car I Have Ever Had

I bought this car about 8 years ago for my teenage son, he drove it for a year, no problems, I have used it as a second car and we drive it almost daily. In the past 8 years we have only spent money on oil changes and new tires...this car just keeps going...the engine is a beast and the transmission is still smooth. If you need a reliable car this is it. Best $800 bucks I have spent yet.

I bought the car from a dealership(owner was family friend) for 1500 with 77000 miles on it. This thing was like a cloud not to mention the comfy seating size and the 3.3 engine rewards passive drivers with great mileage but gives you the speed in needed situations. At 88000 I crashed the vehicle into a sement barrier which cost me only 500 in repairs. The mechanic said the thing was still solid. After that the final sentence was when a LeBaron going 50mph hit me at a dead stop on the drivers side. It bent my entire front end 6 inches over (motor still solid in place) and I was leaking something. What did I do? I got in, turned the key over, and the thing still ran another 100 miles before I parked the car in my yard. P.S. Didn't feel a thing.

Got my first car for free

After turning 16, I picked this car up from my uncle for free, and he didn't think that it would last for more than a couple months. I ended up ditching it last week for a four-wheel drive, but I hated to abandon the Buick. After replacing the starter and sending unit, I never never had to perform much other maintenance. I ran it up to 200000 miles on the original engine and transmission, still going strong. Some lucky kid picked it up from me for 300 bucks, he got a deal, but I needed money. I probably should have changed the shocks, seeing as though my Uncle hauled wood with it. Highly recommended "first" car.

I love this car! I bought it 8 years ago with 95K on it. Now it has about 145K. I hated the faux wood paneling from the get-go but how can you not love these cars. They are so reliable and costs so little to maintain. Other than the usual brakes and exhaust work that is always needed, this car has asked for nothing and has always been there for me. She has always been a 2nd car, but when I bought the 1995 Mercury Sable because it looked nicer (moon roof and all)it was "Woody" who came to my rescue when the Sable was continually in the shop. (That was a total piece of junk!) I would keep the Buick till she dies if it were not for the electric windows finally stopping.

Can Consumer Reports Really Review ??

This has been a great car. Consumer reports would have had me buy a Ford Taurus. I recently rented a 2002 Taurus that I would not trade for my Buick with 105000 mile on it. After upgrading the tires to 75X195, the car handles very well. The transmission is smooth, comfortable ride,Much better than my a 95 Caprice Classic. I bought with 7000 miles on it in 95. It has seen over 25 trips from upstate ny to Cape Cod, and 7 years of small children in the back seat. The interior looks new, and its still a very comforable car. If you are looking at a ford taurus, check out the buick century, unless you enjoy jerking transmissions and trips to the dealer.

I received this car a year ago for free at 109k miles. I now have 121k. I use it around town as a daily driver to work and school. This car's engine is very impressive and has quite a bit of go. The only mechanical problems I've had were the harmonic balancer ($35)and an ignition coil ($30). The interior is spacious, and very comfortable as a driver and side passenger. The back seat itself is very soft, comfy, and great for kids, however taller (> 5'10")folks will have to spread their legs. The trunk is massive! I have no issue fitting anything there! Mileage is decent and as much as I race it about it still does great. Handling and suspension are that of a small boat, but better than most.

Overdrive and Cup Holders

Columbo, 07/11/2002

I really like the car in general. Most everything works and feels right. My only knock against them(or at least the one I have) is the fact that there is absolutely no engine braking whatesoever, and if I drive it on Drive instead of Overdrive, it give a jerking motion everytime I give it gas or release the gas pedal. Overdrive really bad on winter roads And the fact that it does not come with cup holders or any options as to where one could be installed. May sound petty but is very much a nescessity Gas mileage is great, comfort is great, controls are great, mechanicly great.

I like this vehicle, and it's very comfortable. The problem is that I keep closing the door on the seatbelt which is attached to the doors. There is also no cupholders. Overall, it's a great car. It drives smoothly, there's powerseat, and everything else is just fine. The car is roomy, and the trunk is very big.

I purchased this vehicle from an old lady, she just wanted to get rid of it because she was moving, and I got a great deal. When I purchased it I saw very little rust, but what I did see, became more prominent the longer I drove it. My family lives in Central Illinois, so the salt and other road grime eventually caused the rusting to worsen. That's really my only flaw. I could never find any aftermarket parts designed specifically for the car, but I still loved driving it. Tell you what, that thing drove like a Cadillac, for 1/3 the price. Whenver performing routine maintenance on it, the servicer always said how much the 4cyl. engine could run forever. I loved that car.

Best $300 car ever

I bought this car with 77,000 miles on it for $300 and I'm pretty impressed. The outside of mine is kind of trashed and the tires are bad, but the car starts every time and is pretty confortable. Cupholders and seatbelts are annoying as usual, but it's been a good car so far. I never would have bought a Buick, but I needed a temporary car and this one came along. It's no Cadillac, but it gets the job done. Whats with the awful turning radius though?

Great car. Purchased when it had 45,000 miles on it drove it until it had 135,000 miles on when my 17 year old daughter totaled it when she pulled left in front of a full size pickup. Didn't get a sratch on her, the car did a lot better in the accident than I expected. Really miss it. It was a great car, great mileage, was very dependable. Had great heat and A/C. I had the 3.3 engine had the power of a V-8. The only major problem I had with it was the crankshaft sensor went out on twice, other than that just performed normal maintenance. Seats still looked new didn't show any wear. I did notice a lot of people complained of no cupholders. It folded into the armrest but broke easily at $30

When my mom passed away in 2000, i got her 92' Buick Century, one of the few sold in Europe in the 1990s'. It was great, very reliable and smooth. Far away in shape and size from the european "sports" car with no flavor at all. This was a american icon, specially in Europe where Buicks were very few. We had Chevrolets and Cadillacs but no Buicks. I'm sad that today there are no more american cars sold in Europe, i have wonderful memories with that Buick, it was dark blue with whitewall tires! Simply amazing.

When we bought this car I thought, here we go, a granny car that eats gas and will hardly get up and go, but was I wrong. We bought this car with 65K miles on it and have 34k since and it has been wonderful. 20mpg city and an amazing 29 hwy! If I had known was I was getting I may have paid more for it! All I can say is I hope the new Buicks are just as reliable and comfortable to drive!

My parents bought this car brand new in 91'. While still under warranty(thank goodntess) they had to have 2or3 of the fuel injectors replaced and a fuel pump replaced twice.Sold bought it from my parents @68,000. Have had to replace 2 more fuel injectors, computer(twice), several sensors, TCC selenoid,(car will still stall or start bucking at low speeds for no reason)water pump(3 times). This car has always been serviced by the dealer it was bought from, maybe we just got the lemon!!
