Tonight while driving on the highway (snow storm to top it off) the drive train failed and car broke down on the highway.. car has 1,100 miles!

You get what you pay for - thankfully!
This is a very expensive vehicle, but it appears to be alone in its class. Quality of finish, materials, thoughtfulness of design, sheer performance, and great handling all complement the stylish exterior. While test driving a bunch of SUVs and wagons, decided to try BMW in the hopes of being treated better than we were a decade ago. Drove to Topeka Kansas dealership, after a brief email exchange, they had pre-staged three cars, an X3 M40i, an X3 xdrive 4 cylinder and a VW Golf R. We started in the 40i, and only test drove the others out of a sense of duty! Manager suggested we take a break for lunch, take any one of the cars with us, and come back when we were ready. WOW -- they obviously believe their car sells itself, and they are right. We bought the car we test drove - equipped almost like we had special ordered it. Unbelievable acceleration, very good handling for a 2 ton SUV, wonderful interior appointment and finish, more knobs and buttons than we know what to do with. In fact, BMW offers an Encore - bring your new BMW back to the dealership and they assign a BMW associate to go over all of the features of the car, at a time of your convenience. Our encore took nearly 3 hours, and included a tour of the service area, the parts desk, and answering all of our questions about the x3. Stumped our encore associate, and BMWUSA who she rang up on her tablet, only when we asked how to repeat play a music track - they could not figure that one out! Fabulous, but expensive, vehicle, great customer service - highly recommend this car, and Topeka BMW-VW.

never again BMW
I made the big mistake of leasing a brand new BMW x3. The software is a disaster. The car randomly performs electronic functions. After 10 days in the shop, the advisor called to relay a question from BMW: do I have any emojis in my contacts. Really? Well first of all, who knows? But second of all, that is what you are pinning these problems on? Totally pathetic. They had to reboot everything several times and then i finally got the car back and guess what? At 14K the radiator flaps failed! what ever that is. The car does drive well, but I hate the herky jerky shut down and start up at stop lights. Have to press that button every time I get in. Car feels like a task master of buttons to push and dials to turn. The ventilation stinks. It needs constant adjustment. The auto function does not work properly. The bottom line is that I will never buy another BMW and I am trying to get them to take the car back.

Nice car. Poor steering. Terrible tires.
Run flat tires are horrible. Loud. Bumpy. Replace them with Pilot Super Sport non run flats and it like you have a new, and vastly improved, vehicle. Electric steering has no feel and is nowhere near as precise as a good hydraulic system. Interior is great. Power is great. Overall build quality is very good. Update after 8 months of driving. Love the interior. Seats are amazing. Ride sucks. Loud. Bumpy. Rough. Probably a result of the run-flats. I may replace them before they wear out just to get a decent ride. Every BMW I have had since 2007, except an M235i convertible, has had the run-flats, and usually I replace them right away, but this time I thought I would try to at least get some use out of them. Bad decision. They are horrible. Only saving grace is my wife loves the power and the interior.
Take it to the track or grocery store
This crossover is incredibly fast 0-60 in 4.6 seconds. It is so much fun to drive. You have to keep telling yourself this is a small SUV. Fit and finish are to German standards. So far everything is working wonderfully at 6,000 miles. Seats are very comfortable with numerous settings. Mileage is around 23 mpg but that is mostly around town. Premium fuel is required but pretty much any vehicle in this performance class would require it.
