Great Compromise
My wife wanted a mid size SUV which was NOT front wheel drive or front wheel biased. This pretty much directed us to Audi Q5, BMW X3and Mercedes GLK350. Each had its strong points, but the BMW X3 had the most useable space and no real negatives. We're very happy with our decision. Ours was pretty well optioned and had the highest sticker price of the 3, but with USAA and BMW incentives, wound up the least expensive. The base engine has plenty of zip and is reasonably fuel efficient (not quite up to EPA estimates, but still not bad). It handles nicely on the road. If I did not drive a Mercedes E350 Sport, I'm sure I would be more effusive in my praise of the X3. After 2-1/2 years, my original review is still accurate. I have never had to take the car to the dealership except for routine maintenance. My wife is the principle driver and she loves the car--excellent visibility, crisp handling, super functionality. She uses the car typically as a "grocery getter", but on 4 trips of about 500 mi. each, the car performed flawlessly. We have had no second thoughts about this purchase. Two more years have passed and two more trips to the dealership for routine maintenance and two more trips to the beach. Our X3 has served us well. We've had the car for 5-1/2 years now and only one unscheduled trip for maintenance which was covered by a recall warranty. We also replaced the battery at a cost of $400.00. My wife has a special birthday coming up and a new car has been mentioned (sorta). I have looked again at Audi Q5, BWM X3, and Mercedes GLC300. There have been no significant improvements to any of these cars. Some of the new passive safety features and technology are enticing, but not worth the $30,000+ it would cost to replace the 2014 X3.

Affordable to Buy, not so affordable to keep
I bought a used 2015 X3 with about 40K on it. I think the previous owner decided to trade it in after the no longer offered 4 year warranty expired. It was in good shape and drove very nicely and we wanted AWD so we bought it. I am a DIY guy so what I have learned is even the simplest of repairs turn out to be complicated because there is always some code that has to be reset on the cars computer before the new parts will perform properly. This includes the battery, spark plugs, brake pads, etc. Parts, even non OEM parts are pricey. For example, a new battery was $200 plus $100 to have an independent repair shop reprogram the computer. Any way, we are going to trade this vehicle in and get a newer Japanese SUV before anything else goes wrong on the BMW.

Love averything but the tires
I have had this X3 for 2 years and love everything about it except the "run flat" nitrogen filled tires. Twice a year ALL my tires show low tire warning with the temperature change. I live 25 miles form the dealership, so it is a little disconcerting. The dealership ALWAYS takes care of it timely as long as they are open. That is my only complaint on the entire car. I love the comfort and convenience of everything on the inside. The headlights are amazing as I live outside the city and drive on long roads that I need to see the sides of the roads for deer etc, and a long way in front for any hazards. The mileage is great for the size of the engine I chose, which I love. Great pickup and great handling.

Plenty of power and plenty of fun.
I recently bought a loaded, low-mileage, certified pre-owned 2014 X3 with the 4 cylinder turbo engine. I was concerned that the 4 cylinder engine would be short on performance. But, that is not the case at all. The car gets up and goes, especially when it's in Sport mode. You don't need the bigger 6 cylinder engine to have fun in this vehicle. I have taken my X3 up into the mountains along with 2 passengers and luggage. It went up the mountain without breaking a sweat. The turbo powered engine along with the 8-speed transmission works flawlessly and always keeps the X3 it's toes. Plus, the handling is amazing. I have owned some sporty coupes over the years, and this X3 feels just as sporty as any on them. I love it!

Never again, costly lesson learned.
Bought this car used it had 49k miles on it so 1k left on warranty. Chose to purchase a 3rd party warranty (mistake) to cover my car for another 2 years as BMW wanted $2.5k to cover it for an additional 36 months. In hind sight this would have been a spectacular deal. As my previous cars have all been Japanese I've never really had to do anything other then tire/oil and brakes, which is why I chose to pass on BMW's offer. The first week the service engine soon light comes on so I take it over to the BMW dealer as it's still covered. They tell me oh it's just your brake pad sensor thinks you need new brakes. The service guy sticks his hands in the brakes and feels the rotors and says, naw you're good for awhile, the sensor will reset. Couple days later another service indicator comes on, take it back to BMW and this time it's something about pollution control. BMW fixes it and off I go. About six months after this we're at ~ 51k miles, I start smelling burning antifreeze and oil. Take it into my local import mechanic who I trust and have a good relationship with. They tell me my head gasket is bad and some hose related to the turbo need replacing. $1600 dollars later and I'm driving again. Since I'm tired of the brake pad nag, I decide to get all new brakes $650 more I'm ok with this as brakes are a normal wear item. At the moment I'm two years into owning this and have more issues I need to address before I trade this in for something that is well engineered. The tail gate has stopped opening, you tug on the handle and nothing happens, that new this week. Also the automatic engine start stop feature has started putting the car in park after shutting the engine off. First time it happened it was exciting as I was at a stoplight and pushing the gas and the engine was just rev'ing. As to trading this in, checking the various sites related to resale value.. this thing, BMW X3 has lost more value then any other BMW of it's generation. It's a nice driver and fun, but cost of ownership is not worth it. Edmunds asked me to update my review. Here's my update. This vehicle is famous in my family as the worst any of us have ever owned. Expensive, unreliable and depreciated so fast I'll bet the dealer lost $500 between the time I walked in and when I finally signed the paperwork trading it in for a different vehicle. Edmunds keeps asking me to update this review so... Since my original review my mind hasn't changed. This car was one of the worst, costly, unreliable I've ever owned.

Loyalty lost to BMW
I purchased as a certified pre-owned in Nov 2016 and loved everything about the handling and comfort of the vehicle. I'd owned a 2004 325xi for nearly 13 years previously and decided BMW would be my brand for life. I had annoying issues with the X3 like others experienced; low tire warning frequently coming on, battery life is short and expensive because it has to be registered so a lot of shops wouldn't do it, and the wiring of the trunk went bad so it would open but had to be manually closed. But the reason for my 1 star review is on Jan 26, 2020 just 25 days after my extended warranty expired my engine with 66k miles seized while I was driving up an exit ramp. After a tow and inspection by the dealership they found metal in the oil pan and told me I needed to replace the engine and turbo costing $29k. A chat with BMW NA got me nowhere, they wouldn't even give me a case number. I was told only my dealership could discuss with a rep from BMW NA. For an ultimate driving machine I am shocked first that a rod bearing would break at so low miles. Second that BMW would not stand up for their product especially due to the warranty timing (which based on first sale would be March 29, 2020), my diligent service record performed at the dealership as well as all my other maintenance (tires, breaks, batteries) done there. Needless to say, reliability is the most important thing to me which is why I chose BMW, but they've proven that cost does not equal reliability and neither does CPO. I'll be taking my money and loyalty elsewhere.

Top of the class
Purchased the X3 in February 2018 for approx. $27K with 17 months warranty remaining. Comparisons: Had recently purchased a 2015 Subaru Outback and really wanted to like it. Didn't. I I owned it for less than a month! Poor handling and no fun to drive, loud and with the 2.5 naturally aspirated 4 cyc, had acceleration of a minivan. Owned a Toyota RAV 4 years earlier and remembered feeling they were like driving a truck - which at that time was the sub-platform used. I didn't test drive a new one, although should have has I believe sub-platform now based on Camry.. I did test drive a Mazda CX-5 and expected to like it. Didn't. Next, Hyundai Tucson with 1.6 turbo. Liked it, but not enough. Was all set to drive the Audi Q5, but some how it never happened. Didn't matter. Once I test drove the 2015 X3 Xdrive28i, I was sold. Drives like a car and handles like a proper German car. Oh! You have to trash the run-flat tires, in my opinion. They make the ride stiff and handling is only mediocre (but for a BMW, that's great.) Threw some Michelin Primacy on and purchased an electric pump with sealant. Fantastic upgrade..

BMW X3 A Jolly little toy for adults
Bought my X3 xdrive28i 3 years ago and drove it about 13 000/year. This car is a real pleasure to drive every morning to work. It takes away the boredom of the drive to work early every morning I work about 25 miles away and my ride takes about 35 mn so I drive quite a lot. I used to dread that drive but this car made my mornings much more fun. I drive a mixed mileage on the highway and normal roads. The drive on the highway is a real breeze. I drive it on the comfort mode and the car has plenty enough of pick up to pass cars without any problems even at high speed. I am very surprised by the amount of power this little 4 cylinders has even when I go over 80 mile per hour. You can actually have a lot more pick up by switching it to the sport mode, which has great acceleration power, when you merge or want to change lanes fast. This car is a lot of fun to drive. If you are lucky enough to live in a region with back roads, you can have a lot of fun to drive it. I live in PA and the car is great for hills and turns on tight roads. It grips the road. In one word, it drives fantastic. I took 2 trip to South Carolina with it and it drove fantastic. The interior is simple but looks great. I have the special lights on it and good God, they are amazing at night. The car also has an amazing break system that saved me a few times from hitting dear at night. The car all wheel drive is great on the snow. I used to have a Subaru Outback and I think this car is better on the snow. It comes with free maintenance for 4 years. I never paid anything until now except my inspection every year and a set of tires. Now for the negative. Not much to say the truth. The tires/wheels are the only thing I am having a problem with. In the winter, the pressure on the tires can vary quite a lot depending on the temperature. My dash board showed a few times a low pressure on the tires. I had to go to my gas station a few times in the winter to put air in my tires. I have Pirelli zero all weather run flat tires on this car and get ready to spend at least $350 to $400 per tire when you change them. They don't last long either (25 000 miles at most) but they are silent and grip the road. I guess this is the price to pay for performance tires and the security of run flat tires, but you can install normal tires that will cost a fraction of these if you prefer. The car does not have a spare wheel in case of a flat but BMW has free 24h road assistance included. Most insurances do too. My insurance went up by about $30/month when I switched from my Subaru Outback to this car too. The gas mileage is not great (21 miles at most per gallon on the highway) so I use the eco mode when I drive in the city (it does not save you much anyway). It shuts down the engine when the car stops which I like (you don't have to use this if you don't want to). The options are expensive and the price of the car can go up in a hurry. The head lights are well worth it though and I like the GPS on it once you know how to use it. The ondrive system is great (it links my I-phone 6 through bluetooth to my music and pandora automatically when you start the car without having to do anything but not to your e-mail. BMW does not allow texting and e-mailing while driving). The music system is not fantastic unless you get the upgrade (12 speakers) which is amazing and worth the money if you like to listen to music (loud and clear). That is the only regret on my car. I should have got this cause when I got into another model which had it, what a difference it was. Overall, this is a fantastic car. I have no regret about this car. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT. This was the best present I ever bought myself for Christmas. Not cheap but if you have the means, you can't go wrong. My car is now out of warranty. 4.5 years old. Still nothing bad to say about it. No problems whatsoever for now. Still love this car which is pretty rare after such a period of time. No rust or other problems. Changed the brakes once (covered by warranty) and did all the oil changes prescribed. The car is still running like a Swiss watch.

Only one problem with this car
The X3 is my second BMW, the other being a 330 CI. Absolutely love everything about this car with one major exception - the stereo flat out sucks. A car in this price range should come standard with a high end sound system. My 2003 330 has the Harmon Kardon upgraded stereo which is very good but the standard system on my 2015 X3 stinks. The stereo in my Honda Accord is actually better.

Nothing but trouble
I bought my 2014 X3 28i in January of 2018 with 30K miles on it. Since then I have had nothing but trouble with the car. I have a leak somewhere in the drivers side door or sunroof area that I took in to get fixed at a BMW dealer and it still leaks. I have had multiple issues with the engine that were fixed under warranty but just recently have an issue with the Turbo charger being worn out and needs replacing. I have put on 80K+ miles over the 4 years that i have owned it. While the car drives nice and is very comfortable, I am extremely disappointed in the quality of the engine. I will not buy another one.
Worst BMW/Owner experience ever
Lots of road noise. Horrible ride over rough surfaces. Thumps and other noises that can't be located. Front end had to be reworked to the tune of $1700 at 57k miles. At latest inspection (75k miles) several lights needed to e replaced to the tune of $1500. Neither was covered by CPO warranty. Also the leather steering wheel has begun to delaminate - no dealer solution other than to replace the steering wheel at my expense. I've owned 6 BMWs, but this will be my last. UPDATE: Turbo failed at 95k miles and front end needed repairs. Total bill $10k. Traded the car for a Toyota Highlander. I've owned over 20 cars in my life. This has been the worst ever owner experience

2015 BMW X3 DIESEL 31,000 MILES SINCE JUNE 2015
We like the car. However its a diesel, and with the german car manufacturer cheating, VW and Audi diesels have lost some of their luster. However we still get over 37MPG on the highway. Live in Maine so it's mostly highway milage. Have had an oxygen sensor and another exhaust sensor replaced under warranty. Not thrilled by the run-flat tires. No jack or tools came with the car!! Updated on May 15, 2018. Had two more check engine light incidents, both times diesel exhaust system problems. Could not afford the sensor replacement every 15,000 to 20,000 milesso traded the car in at 60,000 miles. Very disappointed with the quality of this vehicle. Not only do the owners have to add diesel exhaust fluid every 10,000 miles which is a pain, every 15,000 to 20,000 miles the car has to be in the shop again to take care of the exhaust system problem!!!!

Certified pre-owned?
We bought our X3 as a 3 year old CPO. The CPO designation is a joke. It mostly means it’s been inspected and meets some kind of standard. We hadn’t owned it very long before it started chirping about needing service. It needed an oil change. The service manager also said it needed new tires. I thought all of this would’ve been addressed before it was offered up for sale as a CPO. Nope. We ended up buying tires elsewhere and saved about $400 for the exact same set. The service department has been great to work with otherwise and has taken great care of us (as a premium luxury brand should). Our three biggest gripes has to be the fuel economy has never matched as advertised, we are regularly dealing with a check engine light, and the depreciation is horrendous. The car drives great and has served us well but it’s difficult to justify getting another one based on this experience.

Offer an upgrade for back seats!
I have now owned my car for three months. Over-all I really like it and love the way it looks. It is $10,000 less than the Mercedes and I think it's a better deal. However, the back seat is very uncomfortable on trips. I also disagree with those who say there is plenty of room in the back seat. I wish BMW would offer an option for the same quality of seat contract in the back as they have in the front. Other than that, I can find little wrong with this car. I also love my dealership (Daytona Beach Fields BMW).
Unreliable electronics
I have not had a mechanical problem, but the electronic components are terrible. The drive train computer was replaced within 6 mos (a 2 week wait) and the head unit of the navigation system was replaced last month, after a year of attempted fixes (and multiple visits to the dealer) by BMW. Thank heavens for the extended warranty I bought back in 2014. I have since sold my BMWX3 because my extended warranty was expiring.

Con/pro
Con - problematic, expect expensive repairs every year especially after warranty expires. Pro - eye catching design, rocket fast and absolutely a blast to drive Update- Spent additional $3000 in repair costs. All total we’ve spent over $5000 in repairs since warranty expired. Unfortunately, my wife will not consider another brand Update 12/2022 50000 mi No major repairs for now but service is due and I’m sure they will find something. Unfortunately for me wife still loves the car Update 6-12-24 No repairs in a year but I’ve noticed oil leak on garage floor. We were planning to trade up for M40i but now considering other brands Update 12/17/24. The Oil Pan began to leak leaking puddles of oil on garage floor. Needs new brakes, new tires and more. Total cost was going to be over $4000. We decided to trade in for a 2025 X3 M50. I tried to persuade wife to look at another brand but she stuck on BMW. She actually cried the day we left the POS 2015 on the lot. This one will be gone before warranty expires

First BMW, truly the ultimate driving machine.
Bought a 2014 X3 35i with 75,000 miles on it from a Denver BMW dealer. The car was prepared very well and I checked the service record; the car had been serviced regularly. It also drove like new. Also, the water pump had been replaced at 60,000. It is just a maintenance item, every 60,000 replace it. I was very fortunate that the X3 came with the 18" wheels and the run-flats had been replaced with high quality all season radials. It rides firm but so nice. I dove a couple X3s with run-flats and I would have had to replace the tires right away - rode like crap. Previously I was driving a 2008 Lexus RX 400h and a 2001 Audi A6 2.7T 6 speed that ran perfect. We kept the Lexus but sold the Audi. We wanted a second SUV and I wanted one that handled sportier than the Lexus. We accomplished this. It took a while to adjust to the X3 but now that I have I am enjoying it so much. The N55 engine coupled with the ZF8 transmission, the BMW steering and suspension make driving pure pleasure. The 28i just did not do it for me had to be a 35i. The Lexus RX 400h is an incredibly comfortable and reliable car with great hybrid drive. 174,000 miles and no repairs besides maintenance. I probably won't be as fortunate with the BMW but I think I did buy a good one. I will drive sensibly most of time and do all the maintenance and hope all goes well. No matter, for what I paid for the X3 versus new, I can absorb some maintenance for the driving pleasure. Bought in November, 2023 for $16,000. It has a $68,000 list price in 2014.

We Won't Buy Another BMW
Purchased our 2014 BMW X3 28i as a certified used car at our local BMW dealer. It had just come off of a 3-year lease with its previous owner. It drove and handled well. Materials and workmanship were excellent. Ride was more sporty than comfortable, but not unexpected with a BMW. But we were extremely upset with the value of our purchase. Got multiple "low tire pressure" warnings, but the dealer just said that was typical in the winter. Got multiple warnings that the battery was failing to charge; again, the dealer attributed that to cold weather and advised us to keep the car on a trickle charger overnight in our garage. When the car needed routine oil change, local dealer couldn't get me in for 8 days! And if I had needed a loaner car, I would have had to wait over two weeks. Not exactly what we had in mind for "luxury car" service! Finally, the car doesn't hold its resale value. We bought a 3-year old vehicle, thinking the previous owner had absorbed the bulk of its depreciation. 15 months later this X3 lost $14,000 more of its value. We traded it for a new model of a different brand, and never even thought for a moment about getting another BMW.

After 5 BMWs this one was my last
I want to start by saying this was a lease car and i am glad it was a lease i could walk away from. i have had 5 other BMWs before this and with this and My 650 convertible i have switched to Lexus. As far as reliability goes, i never had a problem. it always started and stopped, and ran like it should. My problems were the crazy electronics and dealer handling. 1st problem--it has automatic rain sensing wipers, but unlike other cars with automatic wipers, you have to manually turn them on every time so they will work. so they should be called manual wipers. 2nd problem--the parking sensors have to be manually turned on every time when parking. they automatically turn on when backing up, but if you are parking they don't come on unless you turn them on every time. if you are used to sensors that are automatic on other makes of cars, you can hit something thinking the sensors are working when they are not. 3rd problem. the tire pressure monitors freak out with any change of temperature and when they do, you have to take it to the dealer to get them to reset it(this happens about once every week in oklahoma or so). you will get sick of going to the dealer because you cant reset it yourself and it wont let you go into sport mode with a tire error. it also over rides the backup camera and you can be backing up and the camera will shut off to warn you about the tires which can lead to an accident. 4th problem. 5th problem--while the phone connects automatically (with a long delay) to the car, it often wont connect the audio so you have to go in every time to manually turn it on. this is about 5 screens into a menu. this occurs about 90% of the time 6th problem. the audio never remembers where you left it tuned. it will start up in stations i never listen to or settings that i don't use. i bought it new so these are not the previous owners settings. 7th problem the car on several occasions opened all the windows and sunroof over night(twice when it rained) for no reason. not a pleasant thing to wake up to. 8th problem--the tailgate can be opened on the remote while in drive. if you put a key in your pocket or purse and it bumps the tailgate button, it can open on you while driving. this has happened numerous times at stoplights and drive-thrus and will freak you out and make you get out of the car to shut it manually as a risk of getting run over at a stop light. 9th problem--the run flat tires cannot be fixed, only replaced. they also wear out extremely fast on the X3 you will get about 25k miles before they have to be replaced. the 650 only gets 15k miles between replacements. you have no spare or place to store one so switching to better tires that are not run flats leave you with no spare if you do get a flat 10th problem too many things are settings in the i-drive system. the system is cumbersome and very menu heavy and not intuitive. you have to go through menu after menu when it would be better to have more things on one page and less page changing. 11th problem you have to use the i drive button to accept terms and conditions every time you start the car if you want to use anything on the nav screen. starting my car is a process. i have to hit ok to the disclaimer that will pop up every time i start the car. then wait for the tire pressure monitor warning to come on so i can clear that screen, then i have to go 5 screens into the radio menu to turn the audio from my phone back on(it doesn't work every time and sometimes i have to switch back and forth between radio and bluetooth several times for it to switch on. then i am ready to drive. i have timed this and it takes about 2.5 minutes on average. if you don't think this is a long time try waiting in your car for 2.5 minutes while having a someone honking at at you because he wants your parking space 12th problem--when i first got the car i could turn the car off and it would automatically put the car in park for me. after a software upgrade from the dealer, the car will freak out if i don't place it in park before i turn the engine off. 13th problem. when locking the door from the outside touch button, it takes about 15 seconds to actually lock. you will have to stand with the car to make sure it locks before you walk off and i end up hitting the button about 20 times before it actually locks the doors. there is no delay if i use the remote, but then i have to dig it out of my pocket and that defeats the purpouse of a key fob 14th problem is with the dealer in Oklahoma City. if i have a problem, there is a week delay to bring the car in to get it worked on. if i want the free rental car they offer, there is a 2 week delay to bring the car in for servicing. My local lexus dealer can get me in the same day with a rental car 15th problem. while hey claim everyting is included in the warranty including brakes and oilchanges, they dont include alignment, which had to be done twice

Blue Water baby
This x3 is an agile and fun ride. Zero to 70 mph in seconds, quiet even after rattling around farm to market roads with farm or remodeling supplies. The color is very nice and even when I might exceed the posted speeds, no tickets so I am (tongue in cheek) thinking it is stealthy too! It is very cool looking and I've had lots of positive comments from both men and women so not much of a "chick ride" in my opinion. Only drawback is the built in safety feature that I dislike... If the driver or front seat passenger doesn't hit the unlock button positioned dead center of the dashboard then your passengers must "double tap" the door handles to open, which roughly translates to them trying to jerk the darn things off of the doors even if you remind them repeatedly!!! I wish that feature could be disabled but my service advisor tells me it can't.

My X3 never disappoints!
Best SUV I have ever owned. Test drove VW, Subaru, Ford, Toyota and BMW. When it came down to it the BMW was superior in every category. Even though for the price point I could only afford a Certified Used vehicle it was one of the best car decisions I have ever made. The acceleration is fabulous and never let's me down. Unfortunately I drive fast and my X3 is responsive and hugs every curve and blast the straight away in collaboration with my speed demon desires. It brakes on a dime, has plenty of room for me (6'0), my spouse (6'4) and my 2 flat back retreivers. Love this car😇

Great SUV - design, handling, electronics, &safety
Update - still running great! Now over 10 years and a little over 70,000 miles. Replaced the 10 year old battery when it started giving warnings about low charge. Other than that - all normal maintenance and fluid changes. Thought I would miss the IDrive remote app stuff but don't. I mounted a magsafe charger center of the console so have more than that on my iPhone there. Was rear ended on a trip through Connecticut about five years ago - repair was done very well but it was so sad our pristine baby was injured. $6,000 reduced value in the settlement after pressing the insurance company. We keep it looking brand new inside and out. Original review. Bought our 2015 for delivery at the plant in South Carolina. That was a great experience driving a car exactly like ours on the track and through their rough terrain and water course. The instructors were great and really helped us understand what the vehicle could do. It was so impressive to see what a difference the traction control features made on the wet track. The professional driver showed us and then let us experience the difference spinning out and really pushing it. The four years of full warranty went by very quickly. We took it on every long trip and I drove it on my business trips but we didn't get very far past 36,000 miles of the 50,000 that were covered. We have really enjoyed the car and are contemplating keeping it or getting another car under warranty. My wife likes to change models but this is the best car we have ever had and it looks nearly brand new. You will enjoy the way it drives, the great visibility, the panoramic sunroof, the top down view for parking. My favorite is the dynamic cruise control for changing traffic speeds on congested highways. The car will even stop and go for you in the worst of traffic and adjust to changes on any road.

I wasn't a BMW fan, but I'm one now!!! Love it!!!
I wasn't a big German car fan because of operating costs and reliability. So I did something way, way out of character for me and purchased a higher mileage (93k) 2014 BMW X3 35i M Series xdrive. I covered my bases and purchased an very good extended warranty, so I'm protected just in case. But I have had really great luck with it so far! The only thing that happened was the passenger side front inside door handle (to open it) broke. Other than that nothing has went wrong. It drives amazing and has a ton of power! Especially in sport mode it will flat move!! I'm very happy with it and I'm sure I will keep it until the warranty runs out and then trade it for a New BMW X3 M Sport! :)

My 3rd purchase BMW but unfortunately the last one
I have owned BMW cars for the last two decades and this is unfortunately the last BMW I will own. Everything on this car is “melting” due to cheap parts and I live in a mild climate of North Carolina. Although I take good care of my car the seats made of “leatherette” are worn off and torn at 60,000 miles (both passenger and driver side) the rearview mirror has plastic melting down running down my windshield. You cannot touch the door handles as your hands will get very sticky! Absolute disgrace - save yourself the hassle and look for a new car elsewhere!
Closet Sports Car
The 3.5 accelerates and handles like a sports car. But it has the space and utility of an SUV. For someone with a family (or a dog like I have), who is also a car enthusiast it is a great option.

The best SUV we've owned so far.
My wife bought her 2014 X3 slightly used, she now has close to 100k miles on it and it drives like new. She has a bronze exterior with beige interior. It has heated seats, heated steering wheel, mirrors that tilt for parking, rear view cam, etc.. I absolutely love driving the X3 and I've owned many different vehicles including high end. The turbo 4-cylinder has amazing pickup and gets phenomenal gas mileage. The seats are super comfortable and I love the interior color. The info system is decent. The handing is quick and precise. The heated steering wheel gets legitimately hot. The decimals are quiet. She's only had to do normal maintenance like oil, brakes, tires etc.. The ONLY thing that wasn't a normal repair was the glovebox, the outer layer has started peeling off and BMW wouldn't cover it (and this is a common issue that many owners experience) Overall, the X3 has been a phenomenal vehicle that's fun to drive every time I jump in. It makes me love BMW even more than I did before. And it's been way more reliable than my MDX. We'll be driving it for many years to come.

fantastic vehicle
Purchased vehicle about a month ago and have driven 2200 miles. Was nervous at first about 4 cyl engine but it has plenty of power. Recently got 27mpg on trip and that was better than Lexus 400h we traded in. Special ordered vehicle just the way we wanted with tech, parking assist, xenons, upgraded stereo and convenience package. Vehicle is very comfortable on long trips and heated steering wheel is a nice on cold nights. Build quality and dealer experience was first rate. We did purchase tire hazard warranty because of the run flats.
Great reliable premium SUV
Execent SUV. It's a very reliable, luxury, confortable, spacious and fun ride to drive. An excelent quality interior materials. Only its gas mileage is not so good even on Eco mode, which I use most of the times.

Very nice and quite expensive with options.
I recently "test drove" a pre-owned 2014 X3. The dealer was very knowledgeable and we ended up driving about 15 miles during my drive. The car had 34K miles on it, yet it still looked new. The leather seats were in great shape. I have read some articles that mention a firm ride. I have been driving for 45 years and the X1 has one of the nicest (and sportiest) rides of the many vehicles I have driven. The ride was certainly not overly firm. In fact, it was downright fun. When the rear seats are folded, there is a surprising amount for room. If you want to have a little fun while driving your small SUV, this is the one to get. I just wish the new models weren't so expensive. Forty-five to fifty-five thousand is a lot of money for a small SUV, regardless of how nice it is. BTW: I did not reply to all of ratings because I did not have the opportunity to try all of them.

Great Compact Luxury SUV
I’ve owned this SUV for Two years. It handles great. Rides well. Plenty of power with the 2.0 turbo. Even in the mountains when fully loaded, this SUV has plenty of Oomph! Fun on curvy roads. Very comfortable seats. Great cargo hauler. Headup display is great. Harmon Karden stereo is amazing. I can’t say enough about how much I’ve enjoyed this SUV.
Beware-Great drive/poor value
Be sure you have lots of money to spend on upkeep- once the warranty is over it will cost you. Dealer costs are very high and parts are astronomical. I love the way the X3 drives but if I were to do it over I wouldn't. My dealer wanted $500 to update my navigation map! Ugh!!In fact I just traded the vehicle for another non- BMW.

Bought a three year old X3
Love this car! I drove a brand new Toyota Rav 4, and a brand new Hyundai Santa Fe, the feel and handling can not compare to this X3, even if it is a second car. (I did not write the above, and I do not own a Rav4 or a Santa Fe. However I do love my X3, even if it's a second hand card!!)

Fantastic all purpose vehicle
Very impressed with this 3.5 x3 after one month, the heads up display along with steering wheel voice command and what is now a very easy to use i drive system make it very simple to drive the vehicle, change radio, adjust navigation etc without removing your eyes from the road. Suspension and engine are amazing, if you can avoid the hilarity of flooring it, the vehicle gets reasonably impressive fuel mileage. Build quality is top notch and I like the fact that the styling is very conservative. With all the fun stuff, doubtful that anything short of the new Porsche can match it for speed agility and functionality.
Great if you have money for repairs
Very expensive to repair. Check engine light remained on 2x. Once for faulty fuel sensor and 2nd for software problem. Back hatch would not open - no manual way to do so and cost to repair was $2,000 and took full week to correct. Run flats are a joke. Good for about 30,000 miles and cost almost $400 per tire. BMW Connected Drive can be frustrating as it does not always connect. Find the voice activation poor. Other than that the handling and performance lives up to its reputation.

Great for the sports we enjoy
We have a double kayak and we love the height and ease of loading and unloading. Previous 2002 X5 was taller, but the same length. We also tow our utility trailer and trailerable sail boat with it and launching sail boat is so easy even on steep ramps. We couldn't be happier.

This is my 2nd X3. It proves once again the best car of its class.
I owned my first X3 since 2011. Now I traded it for Diesel engine and LCI treatment. I couldn't be happier. I love the new look, and I averaged 32 MPG in first 800 miles. I am happy I chose X3 over others.
Love love love my new BMW
Easy drive ability! The seats heat up fast. Electronics are easy to figure out even for an old person!

Baby Raven BMW x3 35i XLine
This is a replacement vehicle for 2008 Lr2 Hse . This lil baby is Soo zippy. I got it bc it had low mileage 78k and Mainly Dealer Maintained. It’s too early to give a full review but from what I got , I luv it !! I did have to replace the radiator bc I had a leak. Stay on top of your maintenance. The truck had great brakes and brand new tires. My heads-up display does not work. But the drive is great. Leather interior with XLine just under M Sport . Heated leather seats cold package Comfort package. It is Black on Black.. sooo beautiful. I enjoy it. Hopefully for many years to come.
