We were thrilled when BMW offered their fantastic X2 lease program at the end of August. It's not as great now but still their best lease incentive especially on the X2 xDrive as per their website. The X2 is a fantastic combination of everything BMW in a very cool package that is very different than most everything else in this segment. The X2 is perfect for empty-nesters who are no longer soccer moms and who no longer need or want 7 passenger seating when it is not needed 95% of the time. We had a first generation X1 which we enjoyed greatly and recently a 320 xDrive with a unique sport package. This X2 combines both but feels like so much more. We did not get the latest X1 because it was SO much more expensive and not as cool. The X2 feels more substantial than the 320 with much better steering feel and much better seats. It is also way more exciting to look at and drive. Two Adults easily fit in the back seat with room to spare. The headlights are "flame-throwers" and WAY better than the 320. In the month we have had it, we've seen only two others here in Northeast NJ. The biggest "con" is the rearward visibility which in a word is DANGEROUS. For example, in my sons VW GTI, the back-up camera is protected inside the rear tailgate swing out handle. Therefore it is always clean. The X2 has a similar swing out tailgate handle, but the camera is not located there. It is totally exposed to the elements and the visibility is greatly diminished when it rains. I'm sure it will be much worse when it gets covered with winter grime. Without that camera you will feel like you need a "spotter" especially in the bad weather when the camera is basically useless. The rear visibility in general is like looking through a periscope. If/when you take one for a test drive, please take the time to test that yourself. My wife hates backing it out of our long driveway when it rains. She also parks it very far away from others in shopping parking lots to ensure she does not have to back it up when there are many cars and pedestrians present. At a minimum, please make sure to purchase the PDC (Park Distance Control) option for $800 which provides very accurate visual and audible warnings during tight maneuvers. We wish we did. The X2 should also include rear cross traffic as well as blind spot warnings since the rearward and rear quarter visibility is that bad. We really like this X2 and were downright surprised when were able to get such a great lease deal. It feels and looks very special and different. We just wish we had gotten the PDC option because it REALLY needs that at a minimum for the safety of the X2 passengers and others behind it. We absolutely say you should consider the X2. If you like the solid and technical feel of the VW GTI, you'll love this. Just remember to test drive it in tight reverse parking and get the PDC option at a minimum. Follow-up 19 months later.... LOVE driving this X2. Same goes, it's just pathetic that it is dangerous to drive in reverse and has so many blind spots. We also leased a 2019 X1 (now that they are the new BMW lowest price lease) and it came with PDC standard. I guess BMW listened. But the missing blind spot and cross-traffic monitors and alerts are downright dangerous. You can get the least expensive Nissan Altima with AWD and it will have those features. Now the X1 also does not have them and I was told by BMW it's because of the older architecture of the X1 and X2. I've been told the next gen will have those features. For example, the new Series 2 Gran Coupe which is based on the X1 and X2 platform does have all those features. On a positive note, since w have the unique ability to compare our X2 and X1 side-by-side, they are VERY different. Now our X2 has the Sport seats and 19" wheels so that might help explain why it feels like a sports car. The X1 has the regular seats and larger rear storage so we use it to run more errands to Lowes, grocery shopping, etc... With the 19 inch wheels the X2 definitely rides more stiff than the regular X1. So we really like the X2 but when we are going somewhere that requires tight parking, etc... we take the X1 due to its PDC option and better rear and rear quarter visibility. We will NEVER get an every day car again without rear camera, PDC, blind spot detection, or rear cross traffic alert. So many cars that are half the price have ALL those features and many more as standard equipment. Keep in mind, not long ago anti-lock brakes and air bags were expensive options offered only in luxury cars. Now every Toyota and Nissan has them standard. Wake up BMW! We love you but....

I recently purchased my X2 M-Sport Edition in the Gorgeous Eye catching M-Blue. I was not looking to buy a car for myself when I stopped at my local BMW dealership. I was car shopping for my Son. He was looking at a used car and I decided to wait in the show room. That is when I first saw the X2. I am a car addict and I knew I was in trouble when I opened the door and sat inside. The interior is perfectly laid out where you can keep your eye on the road and still handle things without having to get a computer science degree to figure out (which I do have). I loved everything from the two toned interior to the bright blue exterior. It seats my family comfortably (I am 5’4” and my husband and kids range from 6’-6’4”). I decided to take a test drive in the fully appointed one with the M-Sport Package. It was a thrill to drive. I am not a fan of a “smooth floating car” and this one did not disappoint me. It drove just like I suspected ... I could feel the road like a gentle massage ... a true BMW. I left the dealership after my Son was done and I kept thinking about that X2 and how many ways it could make my life easier (long story) than my current car. I went back 2 more times to price out various options. I even took a test drive with my husband and he knew from the layout of the controls to the height adjustable tailgate that I found the perfect car for my needs. My husband knew that we were going to be buying the X2. We also looked at the other “X” models. Basically the X1 is the SUV and X2 is a sporty “cousin”. The same goes for the X3/X4 and X5/X6. I liked the height of the X2 better than the others. I loved the X6 since it first came out, but it was impractical for my needs. After several rounds of negotiations I finally saw them take the Blue M-Sport X2 off the showroom floor .... we have a saying in our family “we don’t buy until the sales manager cries”. Our sales person worked hard to score me the best deal (this was the 3rd car she has sold us). I have to say that this car did not disappoint me at all. It is gorgeous and everything from the fine details to the way it handles on the road does not disappoint the BMW enthusiast in me. I have received many compliments on my car and I smile each time I drive it. I am so glad that this car came into my life. It has improved my life 10x over. I am able to drive it without getting frustrated and my service dog loves it too. One last thing: BMW offers a Mobility Program to help defray the cost to modify the car to suit a disabled person’s needs (up to $2500). They will permit changes necessary to meet my needs even further! It was pure fate that I found the X2 and I thank every day the broken road that lead me straight to BMW!

Great looking, head turner, good performance, car like SUV and not a BOX. Critics need to understand different requirements for different people. Not everybody needs to have very spacious rear seats, nor everyone needs BOX design SUV.

Get behind the wheel and you will tell the difference with the X2. It provides an engaging driving experience unlike most SUVs of this class. We love ours and don't mind a little less cargo space. As empty nesters this model fits our daily life style with ease. It also has been totally reliable, very comfortable, and very good on gas mileage.

Edmunds says there is no rational reason to buy this car and we agree. We drove the X1 and the Volvo XC40 T5 Inscription before we drove the X2. The X1 and X2 have the same engine, but the sport-tuned transmission and suspension on the X2 make it feel like a peppier, more sporty car. We also liked the exterior styling and 19" wheels of the X2 xDrive M Sport. Visibility out the back is worse on the X2 than the X1 or the XC40. We liked the Volvo XC40 better than the X1, but we liked the X2 best of all. I should note this is our second car, so we will not rely on it as our primary family car or vacation car.

Overall I am happy with the X2. I got a really good deal on a lease however, if not for the deal I would probably not purchase the car. Here are my pros and cons. Pros - looks great inside and out, handles great/quick, apple play, nice and relatively easy to use technology, seats are comfy, bright headlamps. Cons - poor visibility (literally cannot see out the back window if middle head rest is in), disappointed for a car that retails for 41k does not have blind spot monitoring (even other makes costing half have this), limited space in back, trunk space is not bad though, cup holders very small.

First time BMW owner. Drove nothing but Honda’s for years; traded a 2012 Honda Pilot that I LOVED - as a single woman didn’t need the space - for a 2018 X2. I have always wanted a white BMW 3-Series, but was looking to drive something unique AND within my budget. I always travel by car and normally alone, so reliability is important to me. Initially, I regretted purchasing the X2 as it was hard getting used to its size. After 9 months of driving the X2, here is my pros and con list. Pros: fun to drive, good gas mileage, great pick-up, excellent maneuvering, and smooth ride - glides down the highway with no engine strain! Cons: HORRIBLE side visibility - which truly is my only complaint. I would never recommend this car for an inexperienced or unskilled driver. To address complaints I’ve read, the lack of blind spot indicators doesn’t bother me as I’ve been driving 35 years without them and am not accustomed to such. Road noise is also not a huge factor for me as I normally listen to music and don’t notice any. Besides, as long as the engine is quiet, and it is (when parked, I can’t tell if my car is on/off) - I’m good. I now know, I prefer large SUV’s. Lol - I also know I can’t afford a large BMW SUV! With that said, I believe the X2 is a great intro to the brand. I don’t see X2’s at EVERY stoplight and that’s nice! I’ll probably buy a “more popular” BMW in a few years, but for now, I’m definitely enjoying the drive!

Never drove a BMW before. Needed a car quickly last year, walked into BMW dealership and leased this vehicle without even driving it once. the first time I drove an X2 was when I got my lease and took it home. Why? Crazy I know, but the introductory movie about the X2 was shot on an island in my home country, a place very well known to me and I was hooked. I just got it and I have no regrets, though I will likely never do anything as crazy as that again. I went with my gut and I was correct, at least this time. Got the cheapest AWD model with minimal extras. Pros: all the most important stuff. It drives wonderfully. I love it. from the Sports mode when I need, to the Eco Pro mode that I am in most of the time. Drove 6 hours w/o stopping once, got out of it and was not even stiff. Only one day driven in very significant snow and it did quite well, almost as good as my prior Audi quattro A4 (but quattro is unbeatable, IMHO). Fuel mileage is great. I do mostly commute in NYC between Bronx and Brooklyn, get 25-27 MPG, depending on how dense the traffic is. Get easily 32 MPG on pure highway driving. A very, very enjoyable driving experience. A pleasure to just sit in it and move. Remembering the Ultimate Driving Machine ads and have to say, this is exactly it, in my opinion. Got 4K off the price for a 3 year lease. That really reduced the total payments by a lot. Cons: A very, very, very, and by that I mean a VERY (as capital as possible) costly experience to repair anything. However, that may not be just this vehicle or only BMW, this may just be any luxury car company, but it does feel A BIT more expensive at BMW, then for example Audi. Example: just had something hit my windshield, large crack needs windshield replacement. Had the same happen twice on my Audi. Replacements with Audi were no more than what Safelite demands for this BMW, about 600-700, the BMW dealership gave me an estimate of 1800-2400. School bus took down my side mirror: 1500. An Uber scratched my headlight: >2000 for headlight replacement (though I am hoping to get scratched glass replaced with OEM part ordered from Europe for a fraction of that price). Vehicle under warranty and no mechanical problems yet. But if the car is ever having problems after warranty is expired, it will be a fortune to do repairs. Shifting feels uneven at times. That may be nothing, but it does remind me of the beginning of my troubles with a Land Rover Freelander transmission many years ago that then completely failed some 20K miles later and was a fortune to replace. I find 2018 X2s now with 12K miles on them (same as my vehicle) that cost 27K after one year of use, while my vehicle at the end of the 3 year lease will be with about 30-40K miles on it and is priced in the lease agreement at 24K. So, it would make very little sense to buy it at that price, since it seems to loose so much in value after only a year and 12K miles. But in summary, I am very happy with the vehicle and the lease price. Got a very good deal, I think.

I have mixed feelings about the 2018 BMW X2. It's decent - it's a BMW after all - but it is a long way away from what BMWs were or should be. The handling was mediocre, though slightly better in "sport mode" than in "normal mode," but it is definitely not a driver's car, and the blind spots that lots of reviews mention are terrible. Frankly, I was terrified even to change lanes on the freeway/highway." The car I had also pulled sharply under hard acceleration, and the ride is really rough (probably the run-flat tires that BMW now puts on all its vehicles) and noisy. On the other hand, acceleration was fast and very smooth, and this car flies on the freeways: hitting the accelerator at 60 is amazing; all of a sudden you are going 90! Driving position is good, seats are comfortable, and bluetooth phone quality is excellent. I've had several BMW's over the years (a 1989 325, and a 2001 530) but compared to those the X2 was crap. I bought mine CPO and sold it after 3 weeks I disliked driving it so much! Buyer beware!

2018 t23-dhp is a loaner vehicle supplied by Flemington BMW while my 14 X3 is having service performed. So here is my "drive home" review.. Looks...beautiful metallic gray color, real pretty lines, backseat would create a lot of negative boos from my Grandkids and the "trunk area" received boos from my wife. Ride, engine power, handling, and all of that, compares equally to my beloved X3. Quick bottom line....to small and much to expensive for the market. My X3 was around the same price but my Grandkids loved the backseat and my wife is still very happy with the "trunk". I do have to bring this loaner back today so I am going to have less than 30 miles driving this car, but this review is basically comparing our X3 to your new X2. Overall a very curbside pretty car with the expected BMW performance.. Thank You....John

Responsive, agile, comfortable. The controls were easy to see and reach. The seats were comfortable and fit me perfectly. The car was just the right size for my purposes since I would have been the only person using the car. There was plenty of room for my packages on a day of shopping. The ride was smooth and transmission shifting was almost unnoticeable. The different driving modes were definitely a plus since I live in Western NY where the weather can change on a moments notice. The day I took it out on a test drive, it was sunny, warm and dry. The vehicle was just what I was looking for! Unfortunately, a black exterior with a black interior was like driving a funeral vehicle for me. Would have purchased it the day I drove it but the colors were something I couldn't live with. The dealer didn't offer up any options to purchase a new build and this was the only X2 on their lot. I was not happy at all with the dealership but the car was exciting to experience.

I purchased the 2018 BMW X2 Xdrive for a few reasons: 1.) needed to have a better trade in/resale value of the 340i i owned. It was getting up in miles. 2.) would be traveling into hilly, snowy areas, where an AWD would suit my needs better. At the dealership i drove; X3, X3 M340i and the X2 x drive. I like the crossover look of the X2. Yet, when test driving (hind sight is always 20/20), i kept remarking the slightly rough idling of the car at a stop. I was also not pleased with the hesitation and slightly mushy breaking - all of which I expressed to the salesman and his response was, "it is because you are driving a car with less performance". I bought the car anyway, believing them. I was wrong. At the car's first checkup, i was in a X2 loaner. TOTALLY different ride! The car dealership looked into my X drive X2 and states that all of the diagnostics are fine. AND, that the loaner is not an AWD. So, you mean to tell me that BMW cannot account for the variations necessary in an AWD vs FWD, and correct for good breaking, no hesitation, and this intermittent rough idle? DO NOT BUY!!! The hesitation alone is dangerous; and I have experienced more than once precarious situations ALL due to this car's hesitation factor! That is why i rated one star for reliability. This car is NOT BMW worthy. Hope BMW reads this.

Nice looking car. Pleasant to drive. Very annoying cabin noise. When turbo is needed the car hesitate at first, could be dangerous. Small trunk with no place for a spare. The trunk is cheaply finished. The console only show the speedometer in miles, not in km. One needs a degree to master the electronics.

I always wanted to own a BMW but am very disappointed. Purchased an X2 thinking it would have some superior options (premium package and comfort package) and very dissapointed. Car is very noisy and back up camera does not even beep. Does not hold a candle to my 2015 Ford Escape. I’ve only owned it a week and can’t wait to trade it in..... sad

I'm Glad i got BMW X2 on lease, it looks great from outside, driving experience is great and comfort. i bought with ought navigation,Driving Aids, Honestly i was not impress what i had exceptions from BMW, Good thing she drive it its not for me regular basis. i,m 6foot fit body. when i drive its great on, but not convenience inside for example- Cup Holder is so small cant place DD's Medium Cup, also when i,m tiring and its kind of hard to reach to cup holder to pickup coffee around stick shift, Another thing no right holder for sun glasses, its not on spot where usually vehicle would have cabin near rear view mirror. i have an iPhone and once i connect it, its keep push screen of Glimpse Map which is annoying. Also i cant skip music track from steering wheel for some reason, i have to reach near A/V display and press from there to skip song. Honest opinion its good looking small SUV but not my Choice. cant wait for lease to be over.

I love this BMW X2! It has the M sport package, which makes it fun to drive. But, it has so many options and electronic stuff, it will take me some time to learn how to use all of this! I guess the days of sit, drive and go are gone! Looking forward to years of fun ahead!

I test drove all cars in this category right from the Mercedez to volvo to honda, toyota . None came any close to the handling capabilities of this car. I wanted a car that I can use as daily commute at the same time use it for long drives. Come on true as most BMW 's drivers delight.

I just purchased the X2 X Drive 28i. The SUV Sleek lines and performance is great. The road noise is louder thn my previous bmw 320i. i chose the gold color and i’m very happy with the over interior and exterior. The care has a lot of get up an go. i would recommend this car.

Drove this as a rental for a month and came away disgusted. I'm an avid BMW fan having owned over a dozen, however if you think this is a BMW you're [non-permissible content removed]. This SUV has an incredibly cheap interior with poor materials, fit/finish, and low feature content. Torque steer is frequent and driving dynamics subpar. Any number of small SUVs provide much better quality and utility at a lower price. This is a half baked effort to put buyers into a cheap BMW and it shows. Anyone buying this obviously did no homework and is doing nothing more than wrapping themselves in a BMW badge to impress....I don't know who?!

We were looking to replace our VW GTI. Was dead set on the VW R. But after test driving the X2 we were convinced this was the car for our family of 3. It’s Zippy, fun, and beautiful. Got it with all the bells and whistles and it was well worth it. We are simply in love.
