This is one amazing car! I have never ever been left with a feeling of amazement whilst being overjoyed behind the wheel of any other vehicle. The awesome power with control gives this vehicle the right balance between fun and stabilty. S6 mode is brutal and thoruoghly fun for a true driver. Loved it beyond all measure!

Fun but expensive to own

Owned this car for almost a year now. It is my fifth BMW and first M car. Other BMWs had no reliability problems and fairly good performance. This car is all performance and no reliability. First 2000 miles in the break-in period, it consumed a quart of engine oil every 100 miles. It seemed like it ran on engine oil and not gasoline. I had problems with transmission (SMG), tire allignment, and driver's window. But I don't know if any other car can match this car's performance, practicality and fun to drive. It is stealthy enough to not attract too much attention, and yet it is powerful enough to street race a Porsche non turbo. Love this car, will buy again when the new model comes out.

FUN to drive

I had a 545, and this is nothing like it. Way better gadgets. Improved navigation, heads up display is great, seats are much better and the acceleration is a great. The transmission is my favorite. Not for the wimpy driver.

M5 has character

I have owned several M3s, and liked them all. This is my first M5. Getting older I was looking for a more power and great handling but when not in the mood a little more comfort with the convenience of auto transmission in traffic. It tries to accomplishes all this but this is where it is flawed as it can't be a master of everything. At slow speeds the SMG is dimwitted. It doesn't react as quick as a manual and you can be beaten of the lights unless your on your game. Gear changes can be brutal when in attack mode. However I love it - the challenge you face is to know the car, set it up the way you want it and adapt to its shortcomings.Gives it a unique character.

I have owned a 2000 M5 and 2003 M5 and they were exceptional vehicles. I purchased my 06 M5 and was totally blown away. I even race at the Super Speedway and with 4 people I can hang with the Z06s and other modified models. It is a smooth and refined vehicle.
