FRANKFURT, Germany — The Peugeot 508 RXH, a sleek diesel-electric hybrid station wagon created for European consumers, will make its world debut at the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show. It goes on sale in Europe in the spring.
The 200-horsepower Peugeot 508 RXH, which combines a 163-hp diesel engine and a 37-hp electric motor, averages 56 mpg and has low CO2 emissions. The all-wheel-drive wagon has four available drive modes, including Zero-Emissions Vehicle, 4WD, Sport and Auto, said Peugeot.
The diesel-electric hybrid wagon has a wider and taller silhouette than the standard Peugeot 508 sedan and station, which debuted in the spring. It also is the first Peugeot to use the "claw" theme on the front end, the automaker said in a statement. The LED daytime running lights illuminate to form three "lion claws," drawing on the longtime logo of the French brand.
Other design cues include satin stealth gray bodywork extensions, 18-inch forged wheel rims, and a grille inspired by aircraft jet engine cowls.
The cabin includes a split rear bench seat, a head-up display and a satellite navigation system.
Pricing has not yet been announced.
