What Is It?
2015 Porsche 911 Targa 4 GTS
What's New About This Model?
The 911 Targa 4 GTS marks the first time Porsche has coupled the performance-optimizing GTS package with the Targa body style.
When Does It Go on Sale?
The 911 Targa 4 GTS is on sale now and dealers should have models in showrooms early in 2015.
How Much Does It Cost?
Porsche has yet to set pricing, but the 911 GTS coupe, which just began arriving at Porsche dealers late last year, starts at $115,195 and the 911 Targa 4S begins at $116,295; we'd expect the 911 Targa 4 GTS (essentially a fusion of these two existing models) to be priced somewhat higher.
What Kind of Engines and Transmissions Does It Have?
Porsche's hallmark horizontally opposed six-cylinder engine comes in 3.8-liter form for the 2015 911 Targa 4 GTS. It generates 430 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque, 30 horses more than the 911 Targa 4S. Despite the extra power, Porsche says fuel consumption for the Targa 4 GTS is the same.
Buyers can choose a seven-speed manual transmission or Porsche's PDK automated-manual transmission, also with seven speeds.
With the PDK transmission, Porsche claims the 911 Targa 4 GTS will accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 4.1 seconds, and top speed is 186 mph.
What Unique Features Does It Offer?
Porsche's latest iteration of the Targa concept automatically lifts the rigid center roof section up and out of the way, stowing it in the rear cargo area.
As with all of Porsche's all-wheel-drive 911 models, the 2015 911 Targa 4 GTS has wider rear bodywork than two-wheel-drive 911s.
