What Is It?
Hyundai HCD-14 Concept
What's Special About It?
Hyundai CEO John Krafcik doesn't practice the art of double-speak, nor does he mince words, so when he says — twice — that the Hyundai HCD-14 Concept is not the concept version of the next-generation Hyundai Genesis, we're going to believe him.
Still, we'd like it to be.
Instead, the HCD-14 simply previews Hyundai's future vehicle plans and offers "an indication of the focus we're placing on driving dynamics and technology," says Krafcik.
The HCD-14 concept is powered by a run-of-the-mill 5.0-liter Tau V8 and an eight-speed automatic ripped from the Genesis. Hyundai didn't steal any parts for the interior, though. The HCD-14 features a raft of unique human-machine-interface technologies including eye tracking and hand-gesture recognition. Hyundai says this is a more conversational, and thus more natural, way to control the car's features.
What Edmunds Says: A production version of the HCD-14 is a pipe dream, but we hope this general shape lives on.
