Terrible Tech - Regret Buying Q4 Etron
After years of admiring Audis, my husband and I finally sold our Tesla and decided to buy a Q4. It has been a big mistake. The biggest issue is the technology. After the smooth, intuitive user experience we had with Tesla, Audi’s system feels clunky and frustrating. From day one, it's been a series of technical glitches and poor support. Setting up the Audi app was needlessly complicated. You have to sit in the car and enter a 10-digit code—which wouldn’t work. The app then prompted me to call their 800 number. After waiting on hold for 20 minutes, I spoke with a friendly representative who ultimately told me she couldn’t help and that I’d need to go back to the dealer or she could put in a ticket to escalate the issue. (This was within the first hour we'd brought the car home.) Then came charging issues: after plugging the car in it would charge for 20 seconds then kick off with an error message. Other annoyances include the app not loading properly and my husband’s phone constantly overriding mine, even though I’m the primary user. Except for the charging problem, these are relatively minor—but they’re issues we never experienced with Tesla. In today’s world, EVs are essentially computers on wheels. If the tech doesn’t work, it ruins the entire experience. I expected a lot more from a luxury vehicle. The Q4 does have some strengths. The exterior is stunning, and the ride is smooth. It has solid storage space, and the sunroof is impressively large—more like a moonroof. However, the interior isn't perfect. The steering wheel feels cramped, and even though I’m only 5'3", I’ve repeatedly hit my knees on the hard plastic housing under the dash. Also, when driving with the sunroof open on the highway, there's a pressure issue that makes the cabin uncomfortable unless you also crack a window. Bottom line: I wanted to love this car, but between the frustrating tech and underwhelming support, I can’t recommend the Audi Q4. If you're coming from a Tesla—or expecting top-tier technology from a luxury EV—this will likely be a letdown.
