2025 Ram Promaster Cargo Van

Based on a Fiat cargo van designed for narrow European streets, the Ram ProMaster is all about offering the most interior space in the most compact dimensions. With more than a dozen combinations of roof height, wheelbase, cargo length and payload capacity, the ProMaster offers a solution for nearly any commercial, or even recreational, use. Maximum cargo space ranges from 304 cubic feet to 524 cubic feet, and like its rivals, the ProMaster is a blank canvas for specific upfitting and aftermarket additions, ranging from third-party options to Ram's own plug-and-play shelving and organizer solutions. 

Edmunds spotlight: ProMaster offers most headroom

The ProMaster added a few new features recently, including an 86-inch Super High Roof option that gives it the tallest interior roof height among its Ford Transit and Mercedes-Benz Sprinter rivals (tall VanLifers, take note). The Super High Roof also offers an optional roll-up door, making for better access in tight parking situations. Updates for 2024 included an optional heated steering wheel and windshield, and reverse automatic braking to prevent backing into objects, so no major changes are expected for the 2025 gas-powered model. The biggest news for the 2025 ProMaster lineup is the debut of a fully electric model, which we'll cover in a separate review. 

Competitors to consider

The Transit and Sprinter are the ProMaster's only cargo van competitors, and all have different drawbacks and strengths. The ProMaster's front-wheel-drive platform helps with maneuverability but caps its payload capacity at 4,680 pounds, and all-wheel drive isn't offered. The rear-drive Ford Transit can haul up 5,100 pounds and offers optional all-wheel drive. The Sprinter is even more capable — and more costly — at a max payload of about 6,800 pounds, with optional all-wheel drive and an optional diesel engine. 

The gas-powered version of the ProMaster Cargo Van may get a few small changes for 2025, but the appeal of its wide range of configurations and flexibility won't be going anywhere.
