Used 2005 Volkswagen Touareg Consumer Reviews
Touareg
MANY flaws at delivery. Tires last only 14000 miles @$1150/set! Too electronically complicated.
Great buy!
Was lucky enough to buy a 2005 V6 with only 8000 miles, now up to 12000 miles. Free of any problems so far. I love to drive it; it is luxurious with a quiet ride, has an impeccable interior, great handling, feels solid and very safe, definitely underpowered with the v6, recommend driving in the S mode, transmission and shifting is great, heavy and poor acceleration especially when compared with my 2006 X3. The stereo system is disappointing at any volume above 21 (especially the bass). If economy is not your concern, buy the V8 or V10 diesel version.

Great SUV...BUT
I really love my Touareg, but have a few issues with it. One, the NAV system is cd based, and my salesman told me DVD based. It cannot locate a lot of places I want to go, and cannot go to a specific address, just in the general "block" of that address. The other thing...no XM or Sirrus radio options. I wanted that option too, and was told it can be done, but NOT. I would not have purchased the vehcile if know about those two items, they were important to me, because of traveling for business a lot! Fuel mil is good, 22 mpg avg, and power is great. Hopefully they will upgrade the NAV and stereo and offer that to previous owners!
Love my VW
The bug was fun, but the SUV is luxury. All the bells and whistles, plus towing at 7,500 lbs! Great on the highway and in town. Fuel cost is the ONLY drawback. The rain sensitive wipers are really nice. Buy one.
Touareg
Handles like a sports car with SUV room and feel.
Best vehicle I ever drove/owned
Being a past employee at an automobile dealership with over 9 car lines, this is by far the best vehicle I have ever driven. I purchased this vehicle in May of '04 and dread having to turn it in at the end of my drivers option lease. Not only is this vehicle reliable in all circumstances, it also is worth every penny that I spend on it a month. I wouldn't trade my Touareg for any other vehicle in on the market. Volkswagen has definitely hit a high note with this one and continues to prove that they are a company that will continue to rock the market with new and exciting merchandise in the future. I can't wait to see what they will do next to top this one.
Electrical and computer malfunctions
I owned the V-8 Touareg for 13 months and recently sold it due to unreliability. Had it in for service ten times. Twice the first week I owned it. Numerous electrical malfunctions. Two complete electrical failures when the vehicle would not start. It was necessary to have it towed into dealership on these two occasions. Had problems with all-wheel drive system especially transfer case. Had electrical problems with all-wheel drive system. Experienced electrical problems with doors not locking or unlocking. Before anyone considers buying a Touareg, check Technical Service Bulletins at NHTSA web site. My Touareg experienced almost all of them. BIG depreciation "hit" when I sold it.
My Review
Car is awesome to drive, only complaint is the fuel....HUGE GAS GUZZLER!!!!!
Awesome SUV
After owning 3 Jeep Grand Cherokees, a BMW X-5 and a Mercedes M-350 and having driven just about every other SUV on the planet, yes, including Lexus, Range Rover, Toyotas and Infinities, I can honestly say, they just don't compare to my '05 V-8 Touareg with respect to style, comfort and performance. Another nice thing is they are relatively new which means fewer on the road and still have, for the time being a disticnt uniqeness. Do yourself a favor and take one for a drive before wasting money on a more expensive less enjoyable SUV.
Have 65,000 miles on, awesome!
I have over 65,000 miles on my v-8 touareg the most of anyone i know of. Best of the best in all, nice price and very quiet. I purchased some 26 inch spinning rims for it and it looks like a beast!
