My Favorite Car Ever

2018 Volkswagen Passat V6 SEL Premium 4dr Sedan (3.6L 6cyl 6AM)

I've owned 2 Honda's, 2 Mazda's, 2 Subaru's, 1 Infiniti and 3 VW's, and my 2018 VW Passat SEL V6 offers the greatest combination of functionality, performance, reliability and value of any other car I've had. It drives well, offering nice sporty handling in the city, and great performance on the highway. I've averaged about 28mpg overall for the past 3 years, and I frequently get more than 31mpg on the highway. Pretty excellent for a V6 engine that has no problem when I need to merge or pass at high speed. The front seats have plenty of support, and everyone that rides in the back marvels at the amount of legroom. The stereo system sounds great, and the technology package is great as well (Apple Car Play and Google Car Play, Nav system, Fender speakers, Sunroof, Heated front and rear seats, USB ports in the front and rear... and more). But this car also offers an amazing amount of utility and flexibility... the rear seats fold down flat, and I've actually used it to transport moderate amounts of building supplies when I was doing some home projects. The trunk is big enough for several suitcases and a golf bag fits in easily. I'm a little worried about what my next car will be, as VW has stopped manufacturing the Passat for the US market... I'd gladly just buy an updated version of this car if it was available. I hear that they're building a Passat for the UK market as a wagon, and for the Chinese market... I hope that VW will bring it back to the US in the future.

Great car for a great price

Bought the car used with 31k miles and it is still in like new condition. The car rides very smooth and has so much space. I love almost everything about this car, the only thing I would change is to add a little more power. It’s not slow but if it was a little more powerful it would truly be an all around amazing car.

2019 R-Line SE - Remote Stopped Working

Dan, 04/21/2019

I leased a VW Atlas SEL R-Line in February 2019 and so I was looking a low cost, but fairly well equipped “second car” and something that got great gas mileage. I went with the VW Passat SE R-Line (w/technology package) because of the looks and technology package, and I got it for $24K on sale. It looks and drives great for a car in this price range. You can’t go wrong if you want a low cost German engineered car for under 30K with someone tired looks (but I like the more classic design). I was concerned about the little 2.0L turbo but it has plenty of power. In the first week I put 840 miles on it, mostly on the highway. It delivered 35 MPG at an average speed of 70-75 MPH. I drove 422 miles round trip and still had 140 miles of range. The car seems solid and well built. The interior in simple and laid out well. The R-Line comes standard with the Fender sound system – it sounds awesome. If you love music – loud or not, get the R-Line! My only complaint as of 4/20/19: It is still cold here in my part of Southern Oregon and so the remote start feature is a must. After using the remote start for 2 days with no issues, it decided to stop working on the third day. This seems to only be an issue on the 2019 Passat. If you google this issue, it seems like a new problem with only a few complaints so far. When you try the remote start feature, the engine starts and then it turns off after 1 second. I have tried multiple times with the same result. Others are reporting the same issue. Some claim VW is aware of the issue but there is not fix yet, presumably a software fix. The car goes in on 4/29 and so I will update the post thereafter. I would have given a 5 start rating based on value and performance if the remote start would not have failed 3 days into my ownership.

The seating position, interior fit and finish and overall road performance is sportier than an Accord. Can’t beat warranty
