Used 1999 Volkswagen Jetta Consumer Reviews
Don't buy
I've had my car for two years. At first I loved it, it was cute and trendy. Well now every time I pull out of a parking space my front bumper falls off. I've had to replace two batteries. My electric windows died. The interior is shot ( leaks, falling headliner, parts breaking.) I've spent thousands in repairs. Today I'm going to the auto shop to replace the reference sensor $233 and the oxygen sensor $247. Non stop repairs
BEWARE!!!!!!!!
This is the absolute worse car Ive even owned. Ive dubbed it Christine. Lets see there in the O2 sensor issue. the green-ooze that drips out of door onto frame, the horrible gas mileage the tail light that needs to be replaced ever month, the moon roof comes off the tracks, the gas tank door wont latch anymore, leaking off oil, the safety belt latch keeps breaking. Customer Service of VW, they SUCK and are RUDE. Not to mention when my Jetta broke down in the middle of a Midwest Winter two hours from my house, they didnt send someone right away and than they lost my car. Yup, didnt know which dealership the car had been taken too, this ordeal lasted over a week.
Overall, great car!
I'm sorry others have had so much frustration with their Jettas. I had a bunch of things go wrong in the first 6 months, but they were all fixed under warranty, so I don't really mind. Nothing has broken twice and nothing has broken out of warranty (36,000 miles in the first year). This dealer and service department are top-notch. I drive an hour for service -- even for oil changes! They are as cheap as Jiffy-lube, and they know it's a VW, not a "Volvo" like JL tried to tell me.
piece of #!*!
I purchased my jetta used, stupid me! First off the O2 sensor went out, then the fuel latch won't latch anymore, the cruise only works 1/3 of the time, yellow goo leaks out the bottom of the doors in summer, then finally the biggst of all problems the transmission failed at 58500 miles. BIGGEST mistake I've ever made. Consider something else before you make the mistake I made.
It's been great
Pushing 100,000 miles, no mechanical problems, everything works well, still tight, holding up well.
