After owning the car for a little over a month, I’m an extremely pleased I went with the Yaris over a Chevy Sonic. I am a huge stickler when it comes to a feeling of quality, and this little car does just that. The interior is trimmed out very nicely for a subcompact. Nothing feels cheap, although the center console is a little flimsy. Even the hard plastics feel nice to the touch, and soft touch materials are abundant throughout the cabin. Controls are basic, but nice. The center display screen is a very nice touch and simple to use with the rotary dial. The car is incredibly fun to drive! Idk what the whole gripe about it being slow is!? The car makes 106 hp and weighs just over 2400 lbs. it literally feels like you are driving for a Miata sedan! It’s very zippy, and the handling is phenomenal. The sound system is excellent and I’d have to put it on par with my 03 Lexus. Fuel mileage is astronomical while averaging 43 mpg everywhere I seem to go. The manual transmission is something I would recommend as well. My only gripe would be as I am a taller guy, it takes a while to find a comfortable position. Other than that I could not be happier with this car! It is a blast to drive

Before I had this car I drove a 2019 civic Si but got in to an accident and had to replace it. I wanted something cheaper and new so I looked between the 2019 corolla, civic coupe, Honda Fit and the yaris sedan. To me the yaris was the best overall bang for the buck especially since I didn’t really care about the apple/android CarPlay since I bought a $20 car mount and slapped it on problem solved (thank you Siri). I purchased the Yaris L trim 6 speed manual for $12,800 OTD. I average 37.7 MPG between city and Highway in LA traffic. The cabin noise is tolerable. I’ve driven to and from Vegas from LA in this and had no complaints (even without a center armrest). I love the simplicity of this car, it’s very easy to use and reminds me of my 97 corolla in terms of how user friendly it was. The hill assist is convenient. Another perk is that it has a full spare kit in the trunk, not many cars now a days has that which I think is ridiculous. Lol people complain about the horse power but in reality a cars job is to get you from point A to B. With the 6 speed its enough to pass on the highway at a decent speed. I don’t understand why people complain about not having enough horse power, even if they did it’s not like they use it to it’s full potential. All these safety features and lane assets are making drivers more lazy and unsafe.

I thought I'd like the Yaris (Mazda2) but four years later, I LOVE it. It reminds me of my Mini Cooper in the joy of driving, but it's quieter and handles the bad roads more forgivingly. The engine is low on overt power but the car really moves fast where I need it, like around town off a dead stop due to its super light weight and great transmission (automatic). I've had no trouble passing's on two lane roads under 60 mph. When it has to rev, it feels smooth and sounds great. The doors are feather light and so easy to open & close (unlike my old MINI). I love the lines of the Mazda "Kodo" design which look especially good in the Pulse Red I got. Based on the record of the Mazda Skyactv engines going back to 2014, I believe I can drive this little gem for ten years without overspending on the automotive budget. I'm 75 years old and my passengers are mostly canine, so my smaller back seat isn't an issue, and anyway they are quite alright for most people and leave me a nice big trunk. I know the Toyota front face isn't as popular as its Mazda2 heritage version, but I am fine with it. It invites me to drive each time I see it. Our family (wife, me and dog, plus my bike and all our needs for living away an entire month) fitted into the Yaris for a nice getaway to Georgia this March. I didn't miss having a bigger car.

Fantastic gas mileage, stylish looks, fun to drive. Loads of standard features. I drive mostly in town and under 40 mph. It is a perfect car for metro driving. You get what you pay for. Toyota hit a home run with a 35-40 mpg sedan. L.E. model is sweet. No regrets.

Got my 2019 Yaris L back in June 2019. My first review still stands. Very comfortable ride, great sound system. Disagree with those who say the car is noisy. As for gas mileage, the car is a very slow sipper (averaging mpg is 43) Just could not be happier with my purchase!

Buyer's be aware with windshield distortion

T. Takagi, 01/29/2019

For those who does not want to read the whole reviews, here's the gist of it. "According to Toyota, using their word, ALL 2019 windshield will have distortion on the bottom few inches, and it is normal, even if it may distract the driver!" and here's the long version; When you test drive the 2019 Yaris, check the lower section, especially toward the corner of the windshield. My mother bought brand new 2019 Yaris, and on her way home, she noticed that windshield is distorted and distrust her driving. I understand she should have noticed the issue when she test drive it, but test drive around the dealership and one exit on highway wasn't enough for her to find it out.... We went back to the Toyota dealership, and their sales guys, service technicians all agreed it is a defect. two days later, we received a call from the dealership and was told it is not a defect; The area service rep from Toyota came and looked at it, and said it is normal since there's another Yaris with the same issue. Two defected cars won't make it normal, but apparently it does for Toyota!! We called Toyota to see if there's any resolution for it, and was told by corporate customer support that it is "Characteristic" of 2019 Yaris. I told if windshield distort image it is a defect, and she said it is an opinion and Toyota sees it as a characteristic. And ALL 2019 Yaris would be the same with distorted windshield! We have been loyal Toyota owners (this is my mom's 4th Toyota, dad has been owning 5, my wife and I is our 2nd in last 15 years since we moved to the US, and owned Toyota in Japan before we moved here!), and loved the quality of Toyota vehicle. It is a very disappointing to see that they are okay with problem like this.

You get what you pay for

2019 Toyota Yaris LE 4dr Sedan (1.5L 4cyl 6M)

Before I go into detail, I must state that I owned a 2018 Honda Civic Type R prior to buying my 2019 Yaris LE sedan, therefore my own personal experience with going from a Civic Type R to the Yaris LE Sedan might be a bit critical. I sold my civic type R because while I loved it, I would never have gotten my monies worth out of it, could I have legally driven it the way it was intended to be driven. Having said this, the Yaris is becoming more and more unlivable with each day. Let me explain. When I first test drove the yaris, it was sunny and relatively mild weather. The car drove generally decent for a sub $17k car. I drove other sub $20k cars as well and while most drove better, they didn't drive better enough to sway me to pay $3-4k more. I wanted to put as much money back in my pocket from selling my civic type R and the yaris would be the car to do that while being very good on gas mileage - which I must say that it is. I'm averaging 38mpg combined city and highway driving. So on with why its becoming unlivable. I didn't realize at the time I bought it but absolutely no back seat cup holders; not in the rear doors, not in the back seat itself as a fold down and not in the rear portion of the center console. Back seat passengers can basically be just that and only that. That's on me for not specifically looking, but for a 2019 car, it should be automatic that some sort of cup holders be equipped from the factory. Whatever. When I bought this car, I was told that optional all season rubber floor mats and trunk tray are available and that the deal would include them but they have to be ordered. Ok I figured. The following week, I was called to inform me that the rubber mats and trunk tray were ready to be picked up. I drove to pick them up and as I was going to install them, none of them fit at all. Upon working with the dealership and there parts manager, the computer does show that these fit the sedan model like mine but in reality they do not fit. They only fit the hatchback model. In fact we contacted Toyota customer care and as of this time, no all season rubber floor mats or trunk tray exist for the yaris sedan or the scion ia sedan which is essentially the same exact car. Another strike there. If you want oem rubber mats and trunk tray, the yaris sedan isn't for you, but whatever, I did receive a credit back on them. So now that the rain has set in, the yaris is extremely loud on wet road noise as if the car is being pressure washed inside of it. It's almost as if nothing separates the cabin other than a very thin sheet of metal; actually that's exactly what it is, absolutely no sound deadening materials of any kind. Fold the back seat down and it gets even louder, and barely tolerable without earplugs. It makes the notorious honda civics road noise look like child's play in comparison. In fact, the yaris probably should have a warning label on it recommending hearing protection be worn. Enough with that, you get it. Back to the back seat, the headrests are weird and my passengers hate them not to mention leg room in the rear is really bad and the rear door entry is awkward and results in bonked heads ALOT. The acceleration is fine on flat ground as long as I don't pull out in front of someone. Hills on the other hand are nearly an impassable feat and only in gears 3 and 4 at the most. Outright dangerous to climb hills even slight ones in 5th gear, forget 6th. The car is a rattle trap too. The backup camera intermittently glitches out and a static image of what's behind the car (not in motion) will display at all times even after turning the car off. I've heard of others having this same issue and that theres an update for it if I take it in; though I haven't called service to confirm this, and I may not bother with doing so. The car corners fine, not like a Civic Type R, but it's 1/3 the price so it's not meant to. The sound system is adequate and easy to use. Visiblity is overall very good with no major blind spots of any kind. The headlights are actually decent for NOT being HID, LED, or projectors so that's a plus. Overall fit and finish is above average for the price point and the interior materials seem better that say Honda Fits are. The front seats are fairly comfortable (for me) and overall features of this car are impressive at this price point. It also has fog lights, xm radio, alloy wheels, intermittent wipers, keyless entry, push button start, 2 usb inputs, and for an additional $200, the main LCD unit can have an SD navigation card added without any modifications being done to the car itself; nothing has to be taken apart or put back together to add navigation which is nice. At the end of the day, there are far worse options than the yaris le sedan and its overall an honest fine car, but having said that, there are better options at the same price point. Hopefully it's reliable and easy to maintain which only time will tell. Not that I'll keep it long enough to find out.

The windshield is distorted. I bought my car February 17th and have gotten the run around about this windshield ever since. Nobody from the Toyota dealer or the manufacturer seem to care until someone gets into a serious accident. It's awful especially at night. I feel very unsafe driving this car.

Had so many issues, Toyota doesn’t do nothing to help .. car steering wheel vibrates after 55 mph since brand new have taking it back to dealership and they say it’s normal operation. Sad , was a big fan of Toyota. Also this it’s a Mazda, not even a Toyota. They didn’t even told us that the day we bought it.

This is an awesome car. We got it as a rental while vacationing in Costa Rica. We took a 4 hr drive to San Jose in it and Google maps took us down some dirt roads. We had to cross several creeks with one of them sending water over the hood. This car handled well, took us everywhere the GPS said too and had plenty of passing power. We were hitting potholes, turning the traction control off to navigate the steep rocky terrain, and flying down first roads and this car didn’t miss a beat.

I have owned a 2019 Toyota Yaris LE since April 2019 and in the next month or so I'm trading it in. I bought the car at $14k which is supremely cheap for a new car although it does show it. I'm 5'8 and 3/4 and getting out of this car has always been strange. Not to mention, my seat is almost all the way back just so my legs aren't scrunched under the wheel, and even then I can't drive it for too long without my legs cramping. My biggest issue with the car is the tiny little engine. The horsepower is enough to keep you going but oh my gosh, the number of times I'm just trying to get up to speed for a highway or speeding up to pass someone and the car HESITATES. Its normal for an engine that small but it gets annoying FAST. I'm not the speed devil like my boyfriend is but even this bothers me to no end. Hence why I'm trading it in for a car with an engine nearly twice the size with nearly twice the horsepower. I do agree that the interior is quite nice for such an inexpensive car. It has a digital display that operates a lot more than you think (took me 20 minutes to realize to reset the maintenance light, its under settings on the digital display for example). The seats are pretty comfy with nice detailing. Although, if you plan on frequently having people in the back seat, think again. Putting aside the fact my seat goes pretty far back just to make me comfortable, the backseat is already practically non-existent. It does fold down to extend the trunk (although I've never done that) which the trunk is already an impressive size in my opinion. Overall, a fantastic car for a starter (like it was for me) just don't expect luxury and expect lots of hesitation from the engine. I swear mine is a brat with how random it is.

So far I've been very happy with my decision to purchase a Toyota as my second vehicle. It is a commuter car as I needed something more fuel efficient to drive. I've also gotten compliments on its look. It's very comfortable, handles well and has decent pick up. Coming from someone who mostly drives BMWs is meaningful. I've only had the Yaris for a month so I can't yet speak on it's reliability and how well it holds up over time. However, so far so good! Oh, I had an awesone buying experience with Jonathan Coley, the online Sales Manager at Big Two Toyota in Chandler. Will only but cars online from now on.

Bought this car with great expectations for an amazing value. This car is built by Mazda and this is actually built on a Mazda 2 chassis in Mexico. Very good quality materials inside the car and looks very good on the outside with alloy wheels and rear spoilers that gives the car the classy look. The car has a very good ride inside for the subcompact division. The only disappointment for me is that the car having a mild vibration just before I come to a complete stop after the car is warmed up and present every time just before the stop. I have taken the car in after a week of purchase into the dealership and they looked at everything and they said everything is okay but the vibration is still present. The solution that was given to me was to ride it for a couple of thousand miles and come back or be back if it becomes more Troublesome or pronounced.

So I bought my 2019 Yaris 4 months ago with 42 miles on it. At about 500 miles my car started pulling really hard one way then shoot you the other way making it almost impossible to maintain in your lane. Took back to Toyota and they said it was the alignment which it was not cause as soon as we left it was doing the same thing. My husband and I tried to make a trip to Utah which was 158 miles away the car nearly killed us. We stopped at another Toyota dealership and they looked at it for 3 hours. They thought it might be an alignment issue and found out it wasn't. They told us that " looking over the car everything seems to be working correctly but we are not crazy there definitely is something wrong with the car it's a safety issue". Well they wanted to start tearing into the car but we weren't in town long enough. We barely made it home. I hope they repair my vehicle but from the sounds of it Toyota is not trying to fix my problem. It happens when going 60-80 mph. I have the manufacturer warranty and extended warranty and they are dragging their feet on my issue. Left with no car waiting to see what happens.

On first view, this is a beautiful car, well appointed, extremely appealing car. The fit-and-finish is nearly perfect. Car has striking lines. My friends that have ridden in it could not get over how silky smooth it rode and how quite it is for an econobox car. Unfortunately, after 10k miles, the love affair is fading. Though they seats look supportive they are really lacking. If you are under 5'8" and slim build, they are super. I'm 5'8" and athletic and it feels like I'm sitting ON TOP of the seat. There is -0- lumbar support (actually less than zero) and it feels like my back is in a child's seat. I also feel like I'm 'slipping' in the seat and constantly trying to find a comfortable position no matter how much I adjust the back and lower the rear of the seat. The tilt/telescoping wheel helps, but I'm always trying to get comfortable. Driving round town is fine, but two hour trips are not advised They silky driving hides the fact that this car has absolutely no acceleration. Once again, if you never have to merge onto an interstate from a short on ramp, you're fine. But if you need to mat the accelerator to merge, you're in very serious trouble. I've FLOORED this car trying to merge and couldn't get up to high-way/traffic speed before I ran out of on ramp. Sometimes it feels like the car has no passing gear. I've almost been ran over by big trucks trying to pull out onto major roads The AC is fine until the heat starts cranking. If you are idling it produces minimal cooling. Once off idle it will freeze you out, except if you are accelerating. Then the AC apparently is bypassed and you get flushed with hot air. And whoever designed the rear headrest should be arrested for impersonating an engineer. You can't sit in the back with the headrest down. Not if you want to have any comfort whatsoever. Radio has great sound, just no power. If you want to 'rock out' and jam you'll be sadly disappointed. Though it has great sound, it doesn't have the deep bass and high notes that just about all car systems can produce. Lastly, and most minor...this car lacks any 'hidey holes' or storage areas. If you need a place for your phone, wallet etc, there is one small spot under the radio, but that's it. After 24,000 miles in eight months I can say I won't be keeping the car as long as I thought I would. The seats are too small and I can't find a consistently comfortable position. My wife and daughter, on the other hand, love the seats as they are only 5'2". This car is really close to being excellent, just has too many nagging issues to be considered great.

This is the kind of car you buy when you have given up on life. It;s loud, buzzy and you feel every bump in the road. Interior is cheap looking, cheaper feeling and seats are uncomfortable. We test drove it when looking to buy and by far this was the worst car we tested. I have no idea how anyone could think this is an acceptable car, you live once and life is too short to drive something like this. Will not be considering a Toyota after this flop.

Is Toyota living up to their brand...

I purchase a 2019 Toyota LE sedan un September 2019. Dealing with issues of scratches on both sides. After weeks of Will repair. Fixed with the black door trim scuffed after the scratch paint fix. Sale person stated "I'll call you to fix the TAPE scuff." Well the cheap window trim is TAPE... Have not heard from him yet. A week later I'm driving down a highway and someone's 100LBS dog had got hit ( sad to see) . I was the lucky 1 to hit the fresh remains. it was not that hard of a hit , right . The carcass had destroyed the splash guard and skid plate about 8th inch thick that is connected to the frame of the body. It pulled the plate down and pulled 1 of 4 bolts out of body.. I call insurance company to make claim and Toyota dealership. Only to be told that to fix it would have to weld the bolt back into body. But why would I spend $$$ to fix something that could happen again. Push plate back instead of making a claim and raise my insurance? Sick after finding that most parts (splash Guard) is $40.00. . Then to find they make a STEAL splash cover that covers the entire undercarriage of the car. Now I just bumped a curd. Scratch the bottom of frontend and hit rim. Bottom of the line is..... If I'm buying a car that I believe would be the best for my budget. Why am I spending 3X in repairs that Toyota should have completed from the build . The car sets way to low on the ground and there was stronger parts to be used (after market) that would prevent this damage . I love how my Yaris drives and handles. Just don't understand why they would make the undercarriage so dam cheep. If you by a 2018 to 2019 Toyota/Mazda/Scion sedan. Drive on perfect roadways. I wouldn't want to think if that poor dog was alive. Toyota is really getting cheap. Again I'll fix it at 2100 miles on motor. Hell thank God I got the extended warranty?
