Used 2016 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab Consumer Reviews
Tacoma number 4. Second Limited.
This is the best yet. 2005, 2010, 2015, and 2016. All V6 and the last two being Limited. Wish it had power seats and collision warning. We really love the truck. We re get an easy 24 mpg at highway speeds of less than 80. Towing a 5,500 lb powerboat with a tandem axel trailer and of course brakes is not a problem for this truck. We get about 15mpg but thats to be excepted. Toyota has made another winner with the refreshed Taco. Made the right purchase. Not cheap but we got what we paid for. Having driven the Taco now for 7,000 miles I've got an update to share. The tranny had a couple of issues that a computer update finally corrected. Constant searching for gears while on the hwy and delay when shifting from reverse to forward. All fixed by the update. Very happy once again. Update, Judging by the other reviews I must have gotten a lemon. The trans and engine are not properly mated. It as constantly shifting around while on nearly flat Florida highways. This was very bothersome. It also seems to have less not as claimed more horsepower. Around town I had to keep it in sport mode to just keep up. It spent 3 months in the shop with a recall. Lost $10,000 in a bit over a year. Resale was not there. I'm pretty sure the reputation Tacoma has for resale will drop if my experience is any example. The worse truck I've ever owned. Glad its someone else's now.

Love my Tacoma!
This is my first Tacoma. TRD Sport double-cab automatic with tech package (except no JBL). Gray with tonneau cover. I'm in my early 50s and haven't had a truck since my late 20s. Since then I've driven small SUVs, but wanted to get back in a truck. I ordered it in late December and it arrived in early March and couldn't be happier. The first thing I noticed when driving it...is that is definitely a "truck" and feels very substantial which is exactly what I wanted. After ordering it, I read quite a few negative reviews and was a little worried. But I'm not having any of the negative issues that some people have listed. No vibration issues, transmission behaves like most vehicles with a 6 speed...yes it tries to keep the RPM range a little low, but all vehicle manufacturers have to squeeze every mpg out they can. As long as you don't have a lead foot, it really isn't noticeable around town at all. On the interstate, it will shift down to 5th but every other vehicle I owned also shifted down going up a hill. No big deal. As far as gas mileage, I average around 20 mpg around town and 23-25 mpg on the highway. I was in a construction zone driving 55-60 mph and got 28 mpg. Definitely decreases the faster you go, but overall not bad. The negatives are minor. I'm 5' 8" and the side mirrors sort of create a blind spot at 4 way stops. I like using Google Maps with my iPhone better than the navigation system, and when I'm listening to XM, the bluetooth speaker won't announce the turns. Those are two minor issues. Everything else is great! I mainly bought the truck based on reliability, looks, and resale value. So far, so good!

no one told it it was a truck
First off as I still have my 14 year old Ranger, there has been a learning curve, a big one. First off love the truck, and it is easy to enjoy. Used it for work the first week I owned it and while it was not as easy to do the job as it was in the Ranger it filled in well, and had no problems. Truck rides nicer than the Ranger and is gawd awful quick compared to the Ranger. While the Ranger ride is very truckish, the Tacoma is much smoother and is much more comfortable. I am still learning all the bells and whistles, but I find a lot of them very useful. the climate control system took some getting used to, but does its job very well. I am not impressed with the Sirius System and could very well live without it. In fact I will be cancelling g it shortly, as it is so limited in choices. Have not had to use four wheel drive much so far, but when I did it was flawless, and easy to use. Little bit fuel hungry, but this is off set by performance. No one told my truck that it was a pick up truck, as it loves to whoop up on those pesky lil Beer Can Racers, the ones that are souped up mini cars, which is kinda fun. While not as powerful as the Mustang 5.0 I liked, it will get you in big ticket area rel quick. I am also impressed by it have a class 4 towing package. Over all very pleased with mine.

Why so many complaints?
Not sure why so many complain of the "minimal headroom." Just bought a 2016 TRD Off-Road Longbed. I'm 6'3" and have a good 3+" between the top of my head and the "ceiling." Yes, it is slower than the outgoing model with the 4.0L, but not a dealbreaker for me...it's a truck not a sports car. Reliability and dependability are yet to be seen with the new motor and all new electronic gadgets, but Toyota is a trustworthy brand known for their quality, so I can't imagine we'd be let down with the new Tacoma. Entune app/nav/audio suite makes daily driving much more livable than my 2008. Interior has been hugely improved. Only gripe is the transmission does hunt for gears a little. Smooth shifting so it's not too bad. Overall, so far I think it's a great truck and would recommend it.

Great Redesign
The truck fit and finish are awesome. Nice interior and easy to read displays. Can't seem to get my iphone 6 to stay integrated with texting application (have set it up each trip). Heated seats are cozy, and generally, the ride is good. I've also experienced the poor engine/6-speed auto-transmission power. Truck doesn't do well in mountains or in traffic. There's a significant power dead spot at 30mph, where the transmission seems to be in 5th gear (of 6) and engine at only 1,000 rpm, so no power to maneuver in traffic. It's not a sports car, but a Toyota software update on shift points is needed, IMHO. I've found using the manually controlling the -speed automatic transmission is a workaround. Overall, a great truck. It just needs a fix to address the lack of power.
