Used 2001 Toyota Sienna XLE 4dr Minivan (3.0L 6cyl 4A) Consumer Reviews
Another SludgeMobile
Our Sienna also developed 'engine oil gel'. Guess that's PC for Sludge. We call it the sludgemobile too. Dealer just rebuilt the engine < 28k miles. Didn't fight either. We have 2 friends that have had rebuilds too. One got back 4000$ on repairs. The brakes squeal, the AC broke < 12 miles, O2 sensor broke, seat back fell off, visor broke (used about 5 times).
Lemon on a stick
This was my third Toyota and will be my last. I have had so many problems with the van that I can't imagine any other Sienna's being any better. It is to the point that I have to take it in every two weeks because the engine light comes on. When I first bought it I noticed that it was very noisy to drive. Then all of the problems started. The tire pressure light continues to come on, the sliding doors continue to get stuck open, and now the engine light comes on very often.

Seat Problem
The front passenger seat is very uncomfortable for someone with short legs. My wife is actually in pain if she sits there for only 45 min. to an hour. We've tried extra padding, putting things under her feet, etc. If the height of the seat, the tilt of the seat (front of seat tilted down slightly) it sure would be nice. The driver's seat is pretty good for her but that would be better if the tilt of the seat could be changed. 'd even appreciate that just to help change the position at times.
Thank God it's on a lease!
Have nothing but brake problems. Rear brakes hum when stopping - told this was "normal noise" for a Sienna. Very irritating. Had rotors sanded down after only 15,000 miles. 1 week later had metal crunching sound when stopping. Was told "nothing looks wrong". Was also told by dealer not to come back with rear brake noise that there's nothing they can do. Drivers side slider door rattles. Rattle in rear seats about drives me nuts Yes, it's been in to be fixed under warranty. Still rattles. Was planning to buy it at end of lease. I'm just glad i'm not stuck with it and can turn it in and be finished with this lemon when the lease is up.
Toyota Sienna
Bought the van in '02 to replace a 91 Pathfinder. Has proven to be very comfortable on long trips with to small kids. Gas mileage is what you would expect for a 6 cyl. Have kept it serviced every 5000 miles at the dealer. Had initial problem with the power sliding doors not working. Right at 36000 and the rear seat will not pull out. Only taken it out 3-4 times. Dealership had to order part. Also, the passenger power window doesn't go down all the time. Overall, wished I could have afforded the Odessey, but this has been ok. Wife likes it for taking the kids around town. Don't get the optional center console; waste of space and no space.
