Faced with the TSA backlogs and nonsense at the airport, I decided to drive back from Atlanta, to Philly, using a one way rental. It was a 2016 RAV4, FWD, XLE. I own an XLE hybrid version, so I knew it would be comfortable as I love my owned one. Well, what was supposed to be a 13 hour drive, turned into an 18 hour drive. All in one day, leaving the airport rental lot at 5am, arriving at Philly airport at 11pm. We stopped by our house to drop off our bags before going to the airport, adding 1 hour. But, the point of the story is that after 18 hours on the road with this car, I will tell you I have never been more comfortable on a long car ride - and this was the longest I've been on in a one day trip. Yes, the paint on the hood does chip easily, my rental had lots of them from lots of highway miles. On my own car, I added a bug/stone deflector, and it helps. But the hybrid is made in Japan, and the paint is a higher quality. I know, I had the 2015 LIMITED that I traded in on the XLE hybrid. The 2015 had lots of chips on the hood and around the door frames. The 2016 hybrid does not. So, a great car, love it alot, and if the paint chips bother you, get the hybrid while they are still made in Japan. Nothing bad to say about my rental, and would highly recommend for anyone who wants a great SUV/CUV without any drama/problems/etc. The paint thing was frustrating, but the bug deflector seemed to help alot.

I have owned my RAV4 XLE a little over a week now and I really don't have any complaints. There was one day where the driving was a little funky, but it seems to have corrected itself now that the vehicle is adjusted to my driving style. Since that one day I have had no awkwardness while driving and find it drives very smoothly. I have no issues with accelerating, braking, etc. I have also found passengers feel it drives smoothly as well. I test drove the Hyundai Tucson, Mazda CX-5, Honda CR-V, Nissan Rogue, and Subaru Forester. I preferred the driving style of the RAV4 the best. The one area for critique would be the sound system. I think the music sounds fine, but it definitely does not stand out as an amazing sound system. Sirius will also go in and out at times around areas with lots of trees. There also seems to be a sound differential when changing from Sirius to a normal FM radio station. Overall I still think the sound system is good, but I also am not a sound buff. A crisp, amazing sounding radio was not an essential factor to me. The RAV4's is more than sufficient for me. I love the looks of this vehicle. The outside looks great with the redesigned front, and I am in love with the interior. The dash is made up of a lot of soft materials, it looks very sporty and sharp. I got the Entune package with Nav on my XLE and feel it was definitely worth it. The upgraded 7in touchscreen looks perfectly fitted in the dash. I also have tinkered with the Nav system and find it more than adequate. It has not given me false directions and is easy to use. It seems to work as well as an older Garmin GPS I own. However, it will not allow you to input an address while driving unless you use voice commands. I have not tried inputting an address via voice command so I don't know how well that works. The bluetooth in the RAV4 has also worked great for me thus far. I can clearly hear the person on the other end, and have not had anyone complain about not being able to hear me clearly either. This vehicle also has great cargo capacity and tons of room. I have driven passengers in the backseat and heard no complaints about it being a tight fit. I find the seats comfortable. I did have to adjust my seat a few times after buying to get it into just the right position, but I think I finally got it there. Overall, I would definitely recommend the RAV4. For me, it was an immediate standout when I first viewed and test drove it. This was actually the last compact SUV I looked at because I was hooked from the first test drive. The RAV4 was not even on my list of potential SUVs, but the dealership was next to Honda and I decided to take a look and am really glad I did. If you are shopping for a car, I'd say you should at least check the RAV4 out. I am super happy with my car purchasing experience!

I wasn't sure if I wanted the Rav4 or the CRV! My mechanic told me to always go with Toyota. My heart was set on the RAV4, but I chose the CRV because it offered push start, keyless entry, heated seats, electric seating adjustment, blind side camera, and a few other perks I can't recall for the same price as the RAV4 that didn't offer any of these perks. After driving the CRV for 45 minutes on my way to see my grandson born 5 hours away my legs and knees were hurting so bad I wanted to cry! My back was killing me, and my butt felt like I was sitting on steel! No matter how bad I felt there was just no way I could keep and pay for a vehicle that I was so uncomfortable in. My drive to work is an hour and a half. I went to Autonation Toyota and not only did they give me a discount on the RAV4, they returned the CRV to Honda and paid for the daily rate and mileage I used. I absolutely love my RAV4! I drove to NY and back to GA very comfortably! It was such a smooth ride. I would recommend the RAV4 to any and everyone interested in purchasing an SUV! Thanks edmunds.com!

Revved up for RAV4

2016 Toyota RAV4 SE 4dr SUV AWD (2.5L 4cyl 6A)

I'm writing this review of my 2016 RAV4 SE nearly three years after purchasing the car... I did my online research just like we all do, but I went a step beyond and test drove a good number of SUVs in the class... Nissan, Ford, Kia, Subaru, Honda, Hyundai... Toyota was the clear winner for energy, acceleration and handling as well as the classy interior and magnificent safety package (an add-on that I would highly recommend). The 7" touchscreen is decent--although annoying when it refuses to let your scroll based on "safety," never asking if a passenger might be trying to access the info... It's also unfortunate that apple carplay is not available in the 2016 RAV4... Toyota was very protective of its middle-class Entune proprietary system... In current model years, it gave into the Apple devil... but a software update is not an option for 2016. That said, Bluetooth works just fine... This is a hell of a FINE AUTOMOBILE... it's badass in appearance and has been exceptional in terms of reliability. I'm SOLD... won't be trading this handsome devil in for a good long time. Hope that's helpful!

RAV4 3 years and running.....

I decided on a RAV4 after having owned Tercels, Camrys, and 4 runners....I did test a Honda CRV (do much noise and sloppy steering). Three years running and NOT a single problem!! I think it's a great price for what you are getting. I personally don't like the 18 inch tires on my limited but there was no option for 17 at the time which works better for me in Montana on the snow and dirt roads. Much better ride. Not as much clearance as I would like but that 4 runner spoiled me..:) Other than that, I have been very happy with the great cargo space and the sound system rocks!!
