My "Dream" car
My RAV4 is an unbelievable value. I had a 1999 RAV4 before I bought the 06, and it was one of the most reliable cars I have ever driven. Performance/handling is excellent, with ESC (electronic stability control). Fit and Finish is OK, with cloth seating, and some nice interior touches. Major flaws include no cargo net (when I have a heavy load, sometimes things fall out.), and that's about it. My RAV4 is probably one of the most reliable cars out there, today. Truly, my RAV4, is my "Dream" car.
Great Decision
I have had the car for 6 weeks/1300mi now and am very pleased. The interior is very comfortable and it drives great. The gas mileage is a little lower than I had hoped. So far I have averaged 25-26mpg, 80percent hwy/20percent city. It's been a hot summer so I am hoping it will get better when I can turn the a/c off. Speaking of a/c, it has had trouble keeping up a couple of times when it's 103 degrees out. I live in Texas. Works great most of the time though. I would say the RAV4 definitely looks and feels more expensive than it is. I've seen several people checking it out on the road.

2006 RAV4 6Cyl Limited 4wd
Nice idea, but needs a little refinement. 20 city/22 highway mileage with conservative driving. Better than the current CR-V (being replaced this fall), but seems as if it were rushed into production. Rear door hinged on the wrong side (designed for right-hand drive-Japan). Sunroof cannot be opened all the way without introducing a load booming noise (per the owner's manual-not in the sales literature). This is a new model that does not have bluetooth capability. Overall, not bad, but much happier with my 4Runner (features and execution).
Mixed Opinions
I've read reviews on the fuel economy, but happy to say so far consistently 23.5 mpg in local driving. But don't see a huge increase in mostly highway. Perhaps in 25-26 range, but not 29. Also, have complaint now with Toyota on occasional severe hesitation when accelerating from stop or nearly stopped situation. They mentioned it could be new Electronic Throttle Control whatever that is. Mostly positive other than that. Fun to drive with size, comfort, feel, ride etc. Hate tire on back, but oh well. New 2007 CRV losing it's tire on door, which should have been a must for Toyota. Jury still out though overall if i made the right choice. First Toyota, so hoping it lives up to hype.
V6 4WD Gas Mileage is not very good
Love the vehicle, but the 15-23 MPG I get, and that is driving conservatively, is not the 22-28 that the EPA stickered the vehicle as. I'm disappointed because the mileage isn't much better than the Explorer I traded in and I wanted much better mileage.
