2024 McLaren Artura

The 2024 McLaren Artura is the British sports car maker's new "entry-level" supercar, slotting beneath the 750S in the lineup. This mid-engine coupe is McLaren's first plug-in hybrid model since the mighty P1 hypercar. The Artura doesn't boast quite the same specs as the brand's former halo car, but it still packs a punch. Acceleration from 0 to 60 mph is said to take just 3 seconds, and top speed is limited to 205 mph. Like all modern McLarens, the Artura is built around a carbon-fiber monocoque chassis, which helps it achieve an astonishingly low curb weight of around 3,300 pounds. Because the Artura was just introduced in 2023, it carries over into 2024 virtually unchanged.

The 2024 McLaren Artura's primary source of locomotion is a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 that produces 577 horsepower and 431 lb-ft of torque. That would be powerful enough on its own, but the gas engine is supplemented by an electric motor that boosts combined output to 671 hp and 531 lb-ft. The unique plug-in hybrid system also allows the car to be driven up to 11 miles on battery power alone. When in hybrid mode, the Artura gets an EPA-estimated 18 mpg combined. It takes 3.5 hours to fully juice up the Artura's 7.4-kWh battery on a 240-volt home charger.

As McLaren's least expensive sports car, the Artura competes with entry-level offerings from other exotic makes, such as the Lamborghini Huracan and Aston Martin Vantage. But its closest competitor is the Ferrari 296 GTB, which also uses a plug-in hybrid V6 drivetrain. It's more powerful than the McLaren and significantly more expensive — but when you're shopping in this category, what's another $100,000 or so?
