Highly dangerous car in snow and ice and rain. If there is the slightest skid the car brakes lock and you cant steer it so you just hope there is no oncoming traffic till it comes to a stop. CAr has done 360 and gone into soft shoulders in minimal snow conditions. Now it accelerates whenever i go over the smallest hole or skid. I believe it should be incl in recall as sudden acceleration is more frequent. I am most displeased with the vehicle. At dealership was told if is excellent car for good weather conditions and that I should have a backup vehicle for NY winters. It never got the sticker mileage and only gets 42mpg. It takes inordinate time for the heater to turn on.

$5,500 transmission needed in only 101K miles!!!

My Prius only made it 101K miles...carefully driven and faithfully maintained and suddenly the 'red triangle of death" light came on. The "transmission" , which is comprised of a single planetary differential gear set and two electric motors, suddenly needs replacing. Toyota does not provide parts for rebuilding...they only sell a complete transmission (gears and motor) for $3,500 and it costs $2,000 to install it. There is a TSB on this so it's a known issue (codes POAA66, 526, and 613). The specific failure is caused by winding deterioration in the traction motor (MG2). So instead of selling the parts needed to rebuild (MG2) and providing instruction to rebuild...nope...you get a whole transmission. Oh...and good luck with the Toyota Corporation itself to help share the cost of a defective part...they took the information and never called back. Keep in mind the batteries are original on this vehicle (another $3K) they could go as well...so in essence...you are ROLLING A DICE when you purchase a Prius. Many get lucky based on what I read in the reviews but in my case and plenty of others (do your homework)...this was a 100K mile vehicle...and no more.

I HATE my Prius!

We bought a Prius in November, and it does not live up to the hype. The keyless entry system stopped working at 2,500 miles and has required 3 trips to the shop to fix. The seats are VERY uncomfortable on long trips, and everything is just waaay too complicated to operate (audio, temperature, etc.), and I hate doing it all on the screeen--whatever happened to simply turning a knob?!. Finally, the real MPG is nothing even close to that listed on the sticker. Over the life of the car so far, I have averaged 36.6 MPG. Granted, I am in stop and go traffic, but isn't it supposed to workbest in those conditions? All-in-all, I would not recommend this vehicle to anyone.

After owning Hondas all of my life, I decided to go with the Prius after driving the Civic Hybrid. I felt the Prius was unique, fun & an excellent automobile. Reading reviews of other satisfied owners reassured me that the vehicle is reliable and the right choice. I highly recommend a Prius!

I have been driving my Prius for 2 months and it is by far the best car (out of 8 that I have owned) I have owned. I'm averaging 47.5 mpg - 75% highway, 25% city - I was expecting low 40s so I am thrilled. I have been impressed with the pickup and interior room.
