30 hours in traffic - 5 gallons of gas

I was forced to evacuate Houston during Hurricane Rita. In the ensuing traffic jam, I spent 30 hours in traffic, but since the Prius does not burn fuel while stopped and runs off the battery at low speed, I used only 5 gallons of gas! I had the A/C on low and saw thousands of people stranded on the road with families, elderly folks and children all night hoping for help. Huge bottlenecks were formed around gas stations where hundreds of cars crowded the pumps. If everyone had a hybrid car, people might not get stuck in those situations because their cars won't burn gas while idling. During the summer I average 47 mpg in both highway and city driving. In the spring and fall, I average 52 mpg!

NEVER LOOK BACK! Liked it so much, traded in an 04 for this one. Ride could be quieter. Love the mileage of 42 with my lead foot. Have the loaded option package and would not do without any of the features. Navigation system is unbelievable! Interior room galore for full sized adults (I am 350, 6'). Exterior will scratch too easily but not too badly. Voice recognition needs improvment due to interior noise levels in traffic. I will never buy another gas only vehicle. Thanks Toyota.

After 14 months my only problem has been having to have the computer screen replaced under warranty. I am probably averaging about 44 miles per gallon. Incredible.

I have had the Prius for one year and still love it. First time I have ever bought a car because I wanted it, rather than needed it and am so glad I did. Driving is fun again and I feel that I am as environmentally correct as I can be while using gas. My mileage averages between 45/52, driving normally, depending upon where I am driving, and it has plenty of get up and go when I need it. It is a solid, comfortable ride and very easy to drive. I have back problems and can drive/ride in this vehicle for long periods of time with no problem. Toyota should hire me as a spokesperson as I am always touting its many virtues.

Waited 8 months for deliver - bought it with all the options. Never fell in love with a car before & I've always owned good running cars (Acura Legend, Toyota Avalon XLS, etc.). Only item I don't know yet is how long the batteries will last - they're warranteed for 80,000 - hope they last longer. I keep my cars well over 200,000 miles. I own it almost 18 months now & have over 33000 miles on it. Averaging 48 mpg city & highway combined.
