4 cylinder turbo

This engine is an atkinson cycle turbo , a rare find, if you hit the gas hard it downshifts causing the engine to lug. it is in too low of a gear . that is not how you drive a turbo. Lightly give gas to get to gear 2 and then give it gas and it blows away the old six, which i just turned in . let the revs go to just below 1500 and turbo waste gate opens ( full air flow )and atkinson cycle engages and i can get 30 to 40 mpg easy ,especially beloe 40mph . Also at 65mph not 70 hit cruise control and an easy 35+ mpg once the revs drop to atkinson cycle. If you drive correctly and use atkinson cycle correctly you can get great gas mileage and power. I had to sell my new 2024 honda crv hybrid because it was the loudest road and tire noise of any suv i ever had , no insulation i checked.. you are driving a lexus basically and it has the same insulation as lexus check the under body. I dont need 20 inch bumpy wheels 18in with high aspect rubber is great ride. The trick is to use cruise control more often this drops engine off turbo and into atkinson cycle. I dont need 3rd row ,perfect car for me i have had 5 in a row every 3 years leased.

Auto Parking Brake: Fingernails on Blackboard

Have a ‘21 Ltd and ‘22 X (menu did not list these options, but both are V-6), both do it. Every single time you put it in park. And it is LOUD. Heads turn. Dealer says “Yeah, they all do it…there’s no fix.” ??? Seriously? Are we the only ones? (Haven’t seen any other reviews calling this out.) What an embarrassment for a company like Toyota that built its reputation on quality. Best yet, I advised our service manager, “You might want to run this up the pole with corporate…it is annoying enough to leave Toyota on the next vehicle.” The reply? (With semi-brain dead look): “You might have better luck contacting them directly.” HUH??? So I did. And THEIR reply? (Mind you, they already have my complete contact info.) “Please send name, number, email, home address, name of dealer, address of dealer, VIN…along with a brief explanation…” I told them they have access to ALL of that info should they care to lift a finger. Honestly — someone is that upset about their Toyota to reach out and your customer “friendly” reply is THAT??? An even bigger embarrassment. I’m surprised they didn’t ask for a DNA scrape & blood type. Time to look elsewhere. (PS - Not a single peep out of corporate since. Well done, folks.) There was a time at Toyota when everyone cared.

Trickle Charge needed

Third time I went to go some place, car would not start. Dealer told me it is because I take such short drives...most places I go is within 5 to 8 min. Mechanic said with so much electronics, everytime I start the car, it takes 15 min of driving to recharge that into the battery. They say I need a trickle charger in my garage and to carry jump cables with me for when I am out of town for the weekend sight seeing, so making very short stops around a small town. !!!! I have a gas car, they said if I had a hybrid it would not make a difference, I ts that I drive so many short distances. Otherwise I like the Highlander very much, I gave it a low rating as I am a 70 yr old female, not wanting to jump start my car in the evening somewhere, wish I knew this or I would not hav purchased it

Toyota Fans: Great Highlander Upgrade

Tom, 08/31/2024
2024 Toyota Highlander XLE 4dr SUV (2.4L 4cyl Turbo 8A)

We’ve had Toyotas for 25 years, so I’ll be commenting from that perspective. Pros: Performance: The four-cylinder turbo / 8 speed transmission combination has plenty of power, and no discernible turbo lag. It responds more quickly than our 2012 Camry V6, which I didn’t believe was possible for an SUV that is definitely heavier. I was wary of an eight speed transmission, but the power flows very smoothly. The ride is smooth, but not mushy, and it corners well, with very little body roll. The interior noise is not quite as quiet as our 2012 Camry XLE. Instrumentation: This is my first new car in a while, so I was also concerned about how complicated the controls would be. I was pleased to find that the climate controls all have dedicated physical switches and buttons (don’t have to go through the touchscreen). The AC is definitely strong enough to cool things down quickly. The satellite radio settings on the touchscreen are fairly straightforward, and the steering wheel controls for changing channels and volume are easy to use. The displays for the other settings are a little complex, but I could figure all of them out over time without needing to look at the manual. Safety: The advanced safety and driver aids are also easy to enable, and very helpful. The blindspot detection and the cross traffic detection when backing up have both been tremendously effective (to warn of potential collisions). Seating: I am big and tall (6’4”), but I can fit easily in the XLE model (with the sunroof) with no problems. The full power seats for both driver and passenger are great. The only model I could find had captain’s chairs for the rear seats, which are fine, and fold completely flat for additional rear storage, but I would’ve preferred to get the bench seat option. The soft gray leatherette seat material is distinctly cooler in the sun than the tan leather seats of our older Camry, and feels fine. App: I wasn’t expecting to have an iPhone app with my new SUV, but this one has been very handy. You can lock/unlock and remote start the car via Wi-Fi (after the 3 month introductory period, there’s a small fee to keep that enabled). Cons: 3rd Row Seating: I didn’t buy this car for the third row seating, so it doesn’t bother me about tiny and insufficient it is. It folds completely flat, and will stay that way. Rear Storage: The fold flat third seat raises the floor for all storage in the back compared with my older 2006 Highlander. The more sculpted outside shape also consumes some internal storage space. Having said that, there is still plenty of room to haul things from the garden center or to the recycling location. Conclusion: I’m very very happy with this car, Which I feel is in line with the best characteristics of the previous Toyota we’ve owned.
