It's new. Rides great. Maneuvers well. Plenty of get up and go. Has all the bells and whistles. Fit and trim are excellent. First non-"big three" we have owned. Center dash w/navigation/CD combined is too delicate and complex. Steering wheel controls good/dash controls unnecessarily confusing. Owners Manual near useless - WAY TOO LONG. More comfortable than competitors especially for someone over 6'2" and 250 lbs. Cargo area is good w/3rd seat down.

This car is great if you are looking for minimal cargo capacity and good gas mileage. Great to get around town, but not off road. It is easy to handle, but is not suited to carry more than 4 people comfortably and have ample storage. If you plan on driving this in snow, this is not the car for you. The 2wd is useless. My wheels spun. So if you get snow on a regular basis, I would recommend the 4wd.

My second Highlander, third Toyota SUV

My first Highlander was an '03 and I really liked it, but hated the cheesy timing belt and didn't want to pay for another one when it came due. The '08 and later have a 3.5 liter (over the previous 3.0 liter) engine which has a timing chain instead of a belt and about 70 more horsepower, due to port injection, yet gets a reported 10% better mileage. I find that it definitely has more power, but only gets about 1 mpg better, though I do love the shiftable automatic. The downside to the later Highlanders is the handling with the Electronic Power Assisted Steering (EPAS) which no one will ever confuse with a BMW. The relatively nimble '03 handling was way better better than the 'galloping cow' feeling of my '09 Limited. I'm told that the Sport is better, but that there is really no fix for the nebulous lack of feedback of EPAS. I'm already looking for a replacement for what I thought might be my 'last SUV', likely a newer Kia or Hyundia full size SUV which has even more (290 hp) power, a huge moonroof and WAY better road manners.

A Fine Set of Wheels

I loved my 2002 Highlander and I'm liking this one even more. This is a very comfortable car to drive. Quiet and smooth ride with a good amount of power when required. Roomy interior. Nice temperature controls. Good amount of cargo space. The Limited comes with a little extra chrome trim which is a great accent to the black paint color. This is a useful, sweet looking vehicle and a fine ride!

Great ride, but noisy engine poor MPG

Rides like a sedan and accelerates quickly but the engine screams trying. Fit and finish is good as well as good legroom/headroom for a 6'4" guy. I expected better mileage than 22 MPG since my previous Sequoia, with a V8, got 20.5 MPG. The sticker stated 24 MPG on the highway and it doesn't come close.
