Buy the limited
This is a great vehicle. The Limited has comfy, heated leather seats, and they heat up fast. Heated mirrors. The sun roof is nice, and wind noise through it is actually worse at slower speeds. Go figure. It seems a little worse than some vehicles at that head crushing in-and-out pressure effect when just the rear windows are open. It's worse with just one rear window open. The all-wheel- drive and electronically controlled traction are a huge plus in winter. Power seat adjustments are very nice, but it's a little hard to get to the controls with the doors closed. Lumbar support actually does the job. On-wheel radio controls are intuitive while controlling different functions for radio and CD.
My second toyota highlander
I especially like the way the front seat fits my lower back. This is the 2nd one I've bought for this reason. The car also feels very safe and is a good size for a woman who enjoys driving an suv, travels between two states frequently, and hauls many things. Also the gas mileage is good for an suv, I think 21+ depending on where I am.

Toyota Highlander
The 2004 Toyota HIghlander is a well- built reliable car-like suv. It has very good gas mileage on the freeway. It is a very fun to drive car. It has room for 7 third row seat. But it is a mid-size suv so the third row seat is only compatible for children. The sound system is very poor even with JBL sound. It is a very secure well built suv and I should not be surprised because it is built by the Japanese which is the best.It has a lot of safety features and it has disk brakes on all 4 tires. The exterior and interior design is excellent.
my review
rides very much like a car excellent handling and acceleration. int and ext appearance is a plus very pleased with this suv.
Love This Vehicle
Have had the car for 7-8 months and have had nothing but outstanding performance. Not one problem!! Only downside is gas mileage. Have taken it on several trips and it has performed as I had hoped. Would highly recommend this vehicle.
"READ THIS CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU BUY TOYOTA HIGH

Terrible!!
This car has been the biggest let down yet. I absolutely HATE my Toyota Highlander with a burning passion. I've almost been hit multiple times because Toyota has created such a terrible car! Before owning this car (which I've had for three months), I owned a 2000 Buick Lesabre. I LOVED my Buick to death. That thing was such a smooth and comfortable ride, I miss it so much. Only reason I had to get rid of it was because the frame rusted thru (gotta love salt during winter season). Anyways, I had to find a new car fast because I needed to get back down to college (which is over 800 miles away). I found the Toyota, and although I had my doubts because I didn't really like how it looked or anything, everyone swore by Toyota and told me they love their Toyotas. So I took the plunge...and have regretted every day since. I obviously bought the car used and it had 132,000 miles on it. Previous owner claimed to be a retired Toyota car mechanic who repairs Toyota's now as a hobby. I bought the car for $5500 (mind you, I am a poor college student who had to take out a loan to get the car). Started having troubles from the beginning...noticed car had poor acceleration and gas mileage, brought it in, turns out it needed a new catalytic converter. That thing cost me $4000 to repair, so now I am $10,000 in debt for a still worthless car. I still have terrible acceleration, I almost get hit because my car decides to not accelerate while trying to merge onto a highway or even go through an intersection. My RPM runs low, and the mechanics (who say they've been working on Toyota's for 22 years) said they've never seen anything as bad as my car. I honestly feel so unsafe in my Highlander and cannot wait to get rid of it. DO NOT BUY THIS CAR!! IT IS NOT WORTH ANYTHING AND SHOULD NOT EVEN BE OUT ON THE ROAD IT'S THAT BAD!! I've had nothing but trouble. It's 90 degrees outside and I have to drive with my windows open because if I turn on the air conditioner I lose all power. The CD player doesn't even work anymore and my front bumper is falling down because the clips are all broken. I wish I could go back in time and not get this car because it is not worth the money, time, or headache.

Disappointing unreliability
While the body is solid on the 2004 Highlander, the trim is shoddy. Wipers have scored both front and back windows; seat belt retractors leave belts dangling to get caught in doors; visors are floppy; broken filter rack fell out from under the dash. Yaw sensor went out as soon as the warranty did. Acceleration from a stop is sluggish; mileage is only average. Because it is built on a Tacoma platform, it handles like a truck.
EXCELLENT @ BEAUTIFUL
AMAZING CAR-LIKE RIDE, TOYOTA CAN PROUDLY PUT THEIR NAME ON THIS ONE, IT LIVES UP VERY WELL TO THEIR LINE UP, I PREFEER THIS ONE OVER THE PILOT IN A HEARTBEAT, EASY IN/OUT, GO FOR IT, YOULL LOVE IT
2004 highlander
I bought my Highlander new.It has been an excellent car up till now @ 66,000 miles. Last week my service engine light came on also vsc and trac monitors were on. I took it to a Toyota dealership and they said my catalytic converter was my and it was still under warranty and it would take a day to repair. Now they say a fuel sensor has gone out and it has been three more days I am not very happy with my highlander now or the dealership
Excellent Buy
I have owned my highlander for one month now. I am well pleased with it. The tire monitoring system is excellent it warns me if the tires are low while driving @ high speed. I recommend the purchase of this car.
Wonderful vehicle
It does all things well - carries our canoe, or our bikes, I've even laid down the back seat & slept in it. Fun to drive, comfortable, great reaction. Love this Toyota!
do not buy this car
I just got this car 2 months ago used with 150k miles on it test drive everything ok after 2 weeks driving all the problems in the world i think i have to sell this car before i get heart attack,,,,,one problem after another,,,,engine noise you can hear inside its loud,,,,not a good vehicle,,,,,,,,,,,i will never buy this kind of vehicle again......

Terrible
This car has been a huge dissapointment.I highly suggest the 4 runner.
Our Highlander
We put 3,900 miles on this vehicle the first month owned on a long vacation trip. It is easy to load and pack the vehicle. Really enjoy riding in and driving this car.
Satisfied Owner
This vehicle has a very solid ride. I have owned three GM Blazers in the past and have never experienced the quality built into a vehicle such as the Highlander. I did own a 1995 Geo Prism for nine years and 77000 miles and never put a dime into it, that is what brought me to buying Toyota.
Great SUV
After looking at many cute utes and mid-size SUV's, my wife and I settled for the Highlander. After driving a 1992 Subaru Legacy we feel like we are driving a great handling and powerful SUV. I am very pleased with the overall appearance and driveablility. The only drawback is a slight hesitation when accelerating to merge into traffic. I found if I don't punch down on the accelerator, but give a more gradual throttle, the hesitation is minimal. Even though we bought this Highlander used, it comes highly recommended. Any vehicle that can stand the heavy usage that comes with a daily rental and still feel very solid is well designed and solidly put together.
It's a Great Vehicle
We have only had this 4WD Limited 3 weeks, but love it already. It has good power, very comfortable ride, easy access, and nice interior styling. We would recommend it to anyone.
Love my car!!!
I will never own anything other than Toyota!!!
TH
it is a very fabulous car and i love it so much you are great creators of a practical car
Toyota Highlander
This vehicle is the quietest vehicle I have ever owned. The ride is very smooth and it is fun to drive.
Love it!
This SUV drives smooth! It feels comfortable inside and it is right for the price. Would buy a second one.
pretty good highlander
good value for price. fabulous in winter driving. very reliable. control easy to learn and use. plenty of cargo space. gas economy only fair. too much road noise enters passenger compartment.
my 2003 toyota highlander
this vehicle is very fun to drive. It has good pick up and drive like a deram.
2004 Highlander
Best car I have ever owned. A lot of fund to drive. Aliitle pricy, but you get what you pay for.
Highlander/2003
We graduated from a Toyota Limited 4Runner to the Highlander last month. The ride is smooth, the seating is comfortable, the look of the auto is handsome and classy. We love it! Our 98 4Runner drove and felt like a truck and it was good for these country dirt roads. But now we are in for comfort.
Best Car I ever drove
As a short woman I find visibility excellent. It drives like a car and is very comfortable with lots of pep to get on and off the expressway.
2004 Highlander
I've owned Porsches, Alfas, and about 35 American vehicles. The Highlander with stability control is the best overall vehicle I have owned and driven. A quality vehicle from the paint job to the excellent performing V-6 and automatic transmission.
2004 highlander
great ride, and looks great inside with the leather package. We have the extra 3rd row and it has come in handy. You can turn it on dime, and the ride is extremely smooth. Love all the little info that it gives, such as mpg, temperature, miles gone, and such. love the sunroof and window.
BEST THING I EVER DID!!!!!!!!!
THE HIGHLANDER IS PROBABLY ONE OF THE MOST COMFORTABLE AND QUITE RIDING CARS. A FRIEND OF MINE THAT RODE IN IT SHORTLY AFTER I GOT IT SAID THIS CAR DOESN'T DRIVE DOWN THE ROAD IT FLOATS DOWN THE ROAD. ALL THE CONTROLS ARE RIGHT WHERE YOU WOULD WANT THEM. YOU REACH FOR THEM AND YOUR HAND IS ON THEM.ITS ALSO A GREAT LOOKING SUV INSIDE AND OUT. PLENTY OF CARGO ROOM ESPECIALLY WITH THE BACK SEAT FOLDED DOWN. AND YOU HAVE TOYOTA'S RELIABILITY AND REPUTATION.
Just got it
I just picked up my Highlander today. I traded in a 1999 4Runner with high mileage. So far, so good. I really had my heart set on another 4Runner, but, I really enjoyed the test drive. Its got great pickup a smooth ride and great handling. I'm going to ease into it adjusting for the 4Runner- but I'm sure it will be a breeze
Love My Highlander
We bought a 2002 and upgraded to a 2004 4WD this year. Simply love this car and didn't give a thought to any other SUV on the market. It rides and handles beautifully. It's very easy to get in and out of and is quite comfortable for my bad back [had several surgeries]. We can't believe how much cargo it can carry. And, it's a very classy vehicle to go out in. Couldn't recommend it enough.
Highlander - Best Buy
It took a while to pick a good mid-size AWD. Final choices were Subaru Forester XT Turbo, Legacy Outback V6 or Highlander V6. Forester has a comparable power, similar price and has about the same, above-average fuel consuption. Then, why not go with the "Best Buy" Highlander instead of "Recommended" Forester? Highlander has been very helpful in the first 6 - 8 inch snowfall. There were no problems getting around or getting the car parked on snowy parking lots. Every hard turn on a slippery road was handled by VSC and traction control without any problems. Very reliable, confident driving. Has a lot of useful hi-tech features plus full-time AWD!
Love this car
Best car I have owned in years
Toyota Fun
The vehicle is built great and right the first time. There are NO problems with anything in or out of this vehicle. Body panels fit tight and equal in all area of the car. Fit and finish of the interior are better than most other cars on the road today
Pumped about the New Highlander
We just purchased one of these cars. We could not be happier with our decision. We were looking for a 2002 or 2003 used Highlander, but they were scarce. That alone should say something about the quality. We are looking forward to many years with our new ride.
Toyota Higlander - best of 48 SUV's
Excellent cornering and car-like diveability. Great emmergency speed and MPG.
Great Buy
We just bought this vehicle, but we love it already. It is such a smooth ride and feels solid. We don't even worry about reliability. Safety was also important so this was a great choice for us. The out the door price was $25,000 which was 1% over invoice, not too bad. The sticker was 25,817 plus we added about 350 to that cost in extras. Glad we stepped up in size from the CRV, Rav 4 class of vehicle.
Love this SUV!!!
I am so impressed with the way the Highlander handles and rides like a car. The AWD is definitely the way to go. I feel very secure in the Highlander.
Typical Toyota, awesome!
Taught chasis, quiet engine with a nice v6 growl under full throttle, nimble handling, smooth powertrain you'd never guess it was AWD. Flawless build quality, very nice cloth seating fabric and excellent color selections. The center console is oddly designed and frustrating to use its underside storage shelf while driving.
This is a great car
I bought this SUV because it had been rated excellent and I am so glad I did. It's beautiful to look at and so much fun to drive. I don't have to fill up as often with this SUV as my parents do with their Honda Pilot.
I love my Highlander
The Highlander has great pick up for a 4 cyl. especially when entering the highway or in a passing situation. It has handled very vell in snow/ice conditions. The front wheel drive seemed to have a smoother ride than the AWD during my test drive. More car like thank truck like. The interior is roomy. My only regret is that I did not get the optional 3rd row seat. The dashboard is easy to read and controls are "user friendly"
Great Buy
I bought my '04 Highlander about six weeks ago - my first Toyota. So far it has proven to be everything I was told. I bought the "base model" with a few options and got a GREAT deal. Given the current price of gas, I opted for the 4 cyl. and I am getting 26 mpg on the highway. The ride and acceleration is smooth and comfortable. So far a great car!
From Explorer to Highlander
My first Toyota. Had been driving Ford Explorers for the past few years and I was pleasently surprised by the refining charcteristics of the Highlander. Throttle Responsiveness is much nicer than Explorer (2002 model comparison) as is handling, and interior design. Brake pedal feels a bit mushy in the Highlander. Overall, I would say the Highlander is very refined mid size SUV that competes or exceeds others in its class.
So far it is GREAT!
I am a new owner of the HighlanderLTD, and have fallen in love with it! It's great looking, well designed inside and out! The ride is smooth, the controls easy to use, and it is great in the snow! The moon roof feature is great as is the general visibility.
Just Plain Happy
Not much to it -- just plain happy with this SUV. Runs well, is comfy, nice inside, not a huge thing.
Very Happy w/my HL
Overall, the HL feels very solid and more refined than other SUV in it's class. Drives like a car, easy to park in tight spots. Interior is very pleasant especially with the "faux" wood trim.
The most satifying car I've ever owned!
Used to admire Benz and owned from 190 to S class. All have more problems than this silky smooth Highlander. Wife's car and she loves it. Ride is smoother than my curret Lexus with 2000 miles on it. Hard to believe. 10,000 miles and no problem whatsoever so far. Absolute buy!!
Limited Version
A very comfortable riding vehicle. To me, the limited package is worth the extra coin. Smooth power on demand. The extra gear in the tranny is a driver's delight. My MPG is close to 20. Not great but adequate. No gripes here!
Everything & More-SOLD!!!!!!!!
Shopped around and tested everything from Nissan to Honda to American makes and settled on the Highlander.Took almost 8 weeks,5 cities & countless phone conversations but it was all worth it. It rides so smooth you'll think you're in a mid size/luxuary car. Blazer felt like a truck and the X- Terra really felt like you were off the road all the time. Drove both 4 cyl. and 6 cyl engines and settled on 6 just for pure pickup getting into traffic Sharp car, from color to performance.Wide seats, even in the back, according to my passengers. So far gas has been fine(18-19 around town...20 on the trips).. Won't get another new car review from me for 12- 14 years...
