2024 Toyota Highlander Hybrid Consumer Reviews

Too loud when windows down or sunroof open
I was so excited (after waiting for a year) for this vehicle...the coveted 2023 Toyota Highlander Hybrid, Platinum. The technology is incredible compared to my old car and the exterior and interior look sharp and luxurious. BUT, I have a few gripes: 1. The number of cup holders leaves a lot to be desired. The small holder in the door is hardly large enough to hold a small cup. And there are only 2 normal sized holders for the front seats. 2. Once CarPlay is hooked into the vehicle, it's impossible to get back to a normal screen. It's either CarPlay or nothing. I often turn off the bluetooth feature on my iPhone so it doesn't automatically connect. 3. IT IS SO LOUD WHEN THE WINDOWS ARE ROLLED DOWN AND/OR THE SUNROOF IS OPEN. This is just really poor design from a car company that I trusted to get this basic feature right. I wish I could recommend an alternative to this vehicle. Definitely test drive with the windows down and also the sunroof open. 4. The front seats are sporty, but uncomfortable. I had to turn around the driver's side head rest so I could sit up straight which compromises safety in the event of an accident. The sporty head rest pushed my head forward so I felt hunched over. Very uncomfortable. 5. Too bad everything is plastic these days. From the exterior grill to the interior trim. Cheap looking and feeling. I expect way more from Toyota.

Not really that comfortable
We had our 23 Highlander Hybrid for two months. We bought it brand new and the first few 2 hour road trips we realized how uncomfortable the seats are. 2nd row is worse and 3rd row is a joke. Center armrest is hard and door arm rest is not usable. Ours had bad wind noise around the mirrors. The CVT like drone is terrible on hills. Engine is always working hard. Entertainment system kept asking for a PIN # and was pretty basic. Interior materials are cheap overall. The good thing is that it got excellent gas mileage. We never did see the EPA rated mileage especially on the highway. The CX90 is only a couple mpg less on the highway, much more comfortable and the materials are tons better.

Luxury SUV in Disguise
Beautiful SUV both outside and inside. Beats the RAV-4 in terms of looks. Test drove an XLE model. Smooth and quiet ride over rough terrain parts of the freeway. Performance was super. Outperformed my 2007 Lexus GS 350 in every category. Too pricey---started at $10K over MSRP.

Doesn’t get 35-36mpg
I have gotten up to nearly 1000miles on my 2024 Highlander Hybrid and I haven’t gotten more than 32mpg. I don’t drive like a nascar driver but also not like a granny. Don’t know why else to do to up mpg but would really like to get the advertised 36mpg.
Great SUV but I wish it had more tech
Recently bought a 2024 hybrid limited after my 2023 Hyundai palisade SEL prem awd was totaled. Definitely noticed a difference while both vehicles drove comfortably. Here's where they differ... Highlander has great fuel economy better than obvythe v6 the Hyundai had. But since it is a 4 cyl you lack in power. Right now averages about 34 mpg which I'm happy about compared to about 23mpg was getting on the palisade. The tech. This is where I feel Toyota lacks in. For the price I paid for the Palisade Sel awd premium package I feel I got more value as tech. From the heated and ventilation first and second row seats from the drivers assist 2 and the side view turn signal cameras. Lane change assist. And just configuration of settting up all the features the Hyundai is better. We had to purchase a highlander limited model just to get 360 camera view which I have to admit is impressive compared to the palisade 360 camera. But also to get heated and ventilation front only seats. The second row does not have either. The third row does not have usb-c as opposed to the palisade as it does. But I do like that Toyota have wireless Apple car play as the palisade does not. The 11 speaker jbl in the Toyota is definitely better than the Hyundai's Harmon kardon 12 speaker is not that great. Easy use of the folding seats in the Hyundai is better than the toyota, Hyundai has an easy 3rd row pull down to fold and a 1 touch button to fold the second row from the back as well as when you want to enter the 3 town from the row. Toyota you have to kinda struggle with the latches to move. And as far as third row obviously the third row is smaller and I know I could have gotten the grand Highlander but could not wait 4 months for one and refuse to pay a markup. But overall the suv is a great vehicle for my family I remind myself that it's a still a Toyota and it's a great quality car that will last for many years to come. If I had an extra car to use I would have waited for the grand highlander for the space. But those still lacks the technology that the palisade had. Also palisade needs to get in the game and make a hybrid version too. I definitely recommend this car to anyone despite a few things. Can't argue Toyota has it down when it comes to hybrids
