Used 2001 Toyota ECHO Coupe Consumer Reviews
Sometimes you go with your gut instinct!
I bought a 2002 Echo and I concur with all of the other previews. This car purrs! I'm gonna give mine a cool look this summer ('03) I'm gonna give it a new stereo (double din video touchscreen with cd changer which will fit nicely with the Infinity Kappa Bass Link amplified sub-woofer I bought which only takes up the right side corner of the trunk. Some nice 205 "15 tires like the dude above did to his. A front mask. Tinted windows. And sime nice interior and exterior neon lighting. All in all this is one heck of a nice toy. I guess that's why they call them TOYota's because they're so much fun to play with! Peace and safe driving you guys :0)
My Little Echo
First it seemed as if I was sitting on a board..a hard wooden board. The seats needs more padding. Hate to reach over to lock the doors. No salesman offered me extra options such as automatic windows, etc !!
Stylish economy car
I was lucky enough to find a used coupe with a five speed, I was reluctant about that, but I love it and no power anything, less to break. This is as close to a poor man's sports car as you can get and given the prohibitive price of cars, and its excellent mpg it's a gem and a lot of fun to drive. Also unconventional looking with a hi-tech interior design and an amazing amount of space inside. I've added a sunroof and cruise control so I have a poor mans convertible and an additional comfort feature. Parked next to a conventional sedan, let's say a Camry, I'm amazed at how big the Echo looks. Its a shame this car didn't make it, Corollas don't come in two doors and they are so boring looking.
Echo is a great little car
The whole look of the Echo is unconventional. I have had my son note that kids his age turn to look at it as we pass. It is a car with a surprising amount of pickup, manueverability and emergency speed capabilities than I ever expected of a 4 cylinder car. While I have noted a slight handling problem in high winds but didn't expect SUV handling in a sub-compact. My tall friends have remarked how roomy the car is and the interior appointments are great. I got it loaded including a cruise control and would trade it for nothing in a comparable range. The gas mileage is great and helps the economy of my 154 mile per day commute.
This car WORKS
I've put 54000 miles on the Echo in two years, and during that time the only glitches I've found were poor handling and soft paint. The poor handling was due to improper inflation of the tires causing a rearend skittering at high speeds. The steering is light and precise when the tires are properly inflated, and the handling improved greatly with a tire upgrade. So the only true complaint comes with the idea that a bug can go right through the paint. The hood needs to be sanded and painted.
