Used 2014 Toyota Corolla Consumer Reviews
30,000 A Year And No Problems
I bought my 2014 Corolla in 2020 with 70K miles on it. Exactly two years later and I've put another 60,000 miles on it (I drive a good amount for work). No problems whatsoever. Every time I turn the key it fires up. It drives smoothly with no check engine lights. The only money I've spent on my Corolla is gas (up to 45 mpg on the highway if I'm watching my speed), recent new tires, and oil changes. Oh, I also put some wheels on it from Discount Tire, and it makes the overall appearance much better ($110 each). I could not be happier. I guess my only complaint is the seats are really prone to being stained. A good detail cleaning usually takes care of that problem though. Oh, and it's not a quiet ride by any means, but you get used to that. I love how zippy this car is. I feel like I can park it anywhere, and it handles really well. No complaints! I bought mine for 12K before used prices blew up in 2020, so I got lucky there. I plan to drive it two to three more years, and then will start over with another used Corolla or possibly a Camry. Toyota is the BEST.

So far, a great experience
So far, this has been a great vehicle! I've only had it a week but noticed gas mileage has actually been better than what's advertised on the sticker. I am averaging 30mpg combined and 40mpg average on the interstate and sometimes it goes even higher according to the gauge. I haven't seen anything below 30mpg, even in stop and go. Note that ,on the gauge, the number is the average mpg, where as, the slider is the actual mpg. This is my first Toyota lease experience and the whole thing has been great. I opted for the sport because it seemed the best value, vs options and it comes in the gray color I like. I think this is going to be the start of a great relationship.

worst experience with Toyota Customer Service
I have been a Toyota owner for the last five years. My family has owned multiple Toyota cars in the past years, hence, the reason why my family decided to purchase a Toyota vehicle. Since the ownership of my Toyota Corolla, which was bought brand new, I have had multiple issues with the vehicle, i.e., temperature gauge had gone bad two-years after purchasing the vehicle, driver's window stuck in down position, and the vehicle began to shake vigorously at around 40,000 miles and then again at 78,000 miles (when my children under the age of 5 were present during both incidents). I have been getting the vehicle serviced and maintained on time from a Toyota authorized service dealership. I have been completely unsatisfied with the level of care and commitment Toyota has provided. For a company that strives on "innovation, quality and reliability," Toyota has failedto comply with their standards and level of concern. I had registered a complaint with the Toyota Customer Experience Center, who disregard my complaint and faulted me atthe vehicle’s condition. The Executives that I had dealt with repeatedly continued to say that the engine failing is not Toyota's problem, even though I am able to prove that my maintenance was done on a timely basis. The Customer Care team members are rude and beyond help, with no sense of professionalism or mannerism. I have an $8,000.00 expense at the cost of Toyota’s faults and oversight. I am appalled to learn that Toyota knew about such faulty engines and issues but chose not take any action to fix such vehicles, given the fact they claim they have the most reliable cars – I think that is an understatement. Now, I will think twice before going back to a Toyota and never recommend anyone to purchase a vehicle from Toyota until they are able to accept responsibly and value their vehicles and customers.

Best bang for your buck!!
I bought this car after looking at many options from: KIA, Hyundai, and Honda. I decided to go with the Corolla Eco Plus, because it seemed like the most bang for my buck. And I was right, first of all the new Corolla design is very sleek and roomy inside. Furthermore, I got this car of the MPG which is an estimated 42 MPG highway. Which I was a little skeptical about to be honest. Since that seems to be the problem many other cars and the estimated MPG. However, this is not the case with the Corolla Eco. I recently went on a 60 Mile pure highway trip, and I was extremely impressed with the MPG which was 50 MPG! I couldn't believe it. I hope this stays true for the life of the car.
Better than Honda Civic
I purchased this car for my wife in Evergreen exterior with amber seats. It looks weird in pictures but really good in person. The current Honda civics are ugly and the interior materials are subpar. Toyota really hit a home run with this car. Exterior is sleek and handsome, while the interior is well thought out and handsome. There are still actual knobs for volume and AC. AC blows cold. Power is really good, especially for climbing hills. The CVT is really good and smooth, I don't hear any whine at all. I find the LE ECO is the best value, since it already has a backup camera and hiighest MPG. Don't need any fancy wheels to reduce my MPG. Car is relatively quiet.
Greatest comfortable economy car
As mentioned by someone else, this car generally get so-so reviews because it doesn't comply with auto-journalist enthusiasts vision of a great car : no turbo, no DI, no IRS, no 4 disc brakes... They miss the point. This "old technology" package accomplish equivalent or more than some of the fancier competition : comfortable and composed ride and decent power with a hard to beat fuel economy (I'm at 39 mpg average 50/50) over 80,000 miles, despite the break-in period and harsh winter. Lots of plastic Inside but well put together with a somewhat elegant design. Real DEL headlights (not decorative) are great. Steering wheel /voice, Bluetooth, USB, back-up camera. Any equivalent for 20K C$ ? UPDATE 6½ years : Still running great. The most trouble-free no fuss owning experience I've had with a car (this is my first Toyota). Only oil changes /brake cleaning, but 2 service campaigns: firmware update for the Valvematic system and the CVT and a recall for some connector to the electronic module control for airbags (rather a supplier fault, affecting many brands).Maintenance cost is the lowest.MPG is even getting better over time.

Defective navigation
The navigation system stopped working. It's a manufacturer's defect, but they will not fix or repair it. They want $1,500 to replace their bad design. I loved Toyota's, but that is not acceptable. My next car will not be a Toyota.

Corolla 6-speed
This is an addition to my previous review. If you're looking for a sports car the 6-speed might not fit. Passing with the 6 speed can be a bit challenging, although its still capable. At 55 mph in 6th gear drop it into 4th and punch it to moderately pass on the open road. Do not challenge on coming traffic, give yourself room. When shifting from 5th into 6th ride the shifter to the far right as to not accidentally drop it back into 4th. A sloppy shift may end up going from 5th back to 4th. Also mind going from 4th to 5th as to not accidentally drop into 3rd. This advice applies to folks whom are new to driving manual transmissions, seasoned folks will not find this problem.
My 06' was better on gas!!!!
Nice car! Love the redesign (Inside & out)! Not as peppy as my 2006 S. Planned on driving my 06 for 5 more years as was so dependable, but totaled it so needed a new car. I chose the S Plus due to the disc brakes all the way around. Purchased with the convenience package. Love the XM and blue tooth which I didn't have before. With that said, I am so DISAPPOINTED with the gas mileage. My 06 got 33 MPG consistently. This car barely gets 29 MPG. They advertise as 35 MPG which is NOT true. But it's still a nice car. As far as reliability, that remains to be seen. Oh yea, I put 5,000 miles on it so far, and still can't get rid of the epoxy smells when I accelerate. Seems to come thru the vents.
