Used 2018 Toyota Camry SE 4dr Sedan (2.5L 4cyl 8A) Consumer Reviews
AVOID. I REPEAT. AVOID.
This is a new design from the ground up. I've owned 2 of them (dealer let us trade in the 1st one as a replacement). They both suffer from awful transmissions. When you first put this car into gear in the morning, it slams really hard into gear, and rides terribly until it warms up. I've driven and owned several cars in my life, and never experienced this expect for on a 2003 Chevy Impala, and that car's transmission failed within a year of those symptoms. Research it, it's a widely known issue with the 2018 Camry. In fact, Toyota has already released a TSB on the issue, and they came up with a "software" update to the computer to fix the known issue. Except, it doesn't do anything. I believe it is a physical mechanical problem that cannot be fixed with a software update.

8 speed Transmission is terrible!!! Not Safe!!!
The car can not decide what gear it wants to be in. It randomly jumps and skips and bucks. I have had the car in 4 times. Test drove with a tech and he felt it and said it's not right. Toyota sent in a tech and wrote on my report that erratic shifting is normal there is nothing wrong with the car. What!! Are you kidding. Toyota or the dealer wants to fix the problem. The car is not safe. DO NOT BUY THIS CAR. IT IS NOT SAFE.

Highly disappointed! This car is dangerous!
Traded in out 2016 Toyota Van XLE for this and been nothing but trouble. Shifts horrible and at times the engine response because of it is flat and scary. We've had it to the dealership 3 times now for a burning smell under the hood. Finally the dealer has given us a loaner car and had the engineers come to check the car throughly. Were scared to park it in the garage or drive it as were afraid it might burn on the side the road or worse yet burn our house down. Will update this review if they fine the issue. I would not recommend this car to anyone currently. Some of the interior pieces could have been made better and the lack of GPS on all models is disappointing but were not surprised because the GPS we had on our Toyota Sienna was not great either. Toyota missed the mark only offering the GPS option on the XLE and XSE and supposedly they have to be V6 models as well. One of the things that frustrates me the most about the 2018 Toyota Camry is the trunk. you can only open it from the button on the dash or the key. If the car is running the key will not open the trunk. Why is there's not a switch on the trunk lid to open it from outside baffles me. Update: 6/15/2018 1. Turns out there is a trunk switch just its not in the middle where you'd expect it. Took us two month to realize where it was and not open the trunk from the inside. That being said the Key fab wont open the trunk if the car is running. 2. Today while on the interstate doing 65MPH the active collision decide to go nuts. It about got us into a rear end collision wreck and the people driving behind us were not too happy. The scary part was were in five lanes of traffic doing 65mph and it had no reason to engage. It just engaged and skidded the tires with us like 10 car lengths behind the car we were following.

Delay in acceleration caused a near accident
Similar to Befuddled's complaint, I needed the 2018 Camry SE to accelerate and it took 1-2 seconds to do so, in the interim a car was approaching me from behind. When the car did finally accelerate it did so quickly, jerking the car and immediately loosing traction, i.e., the car was now out of control. THIS CAR IS UNSAFE AND WILL PUT YOU IN HARM'S WAY. DO NOT CONSIDER BUYING THIS CAR. Dealership maintain's the position - again similar to other posts - that 'this is how the transmission works, it is working as expected'. . . WHAT? In 35 years of driving I have NEVER had a transmission do anything like this. Going back to Kerry Toyota in Florence KY for a this time for the same issue next week. Also, Toyota the manufacturer is now involved. By way of contrast, the Honda I drove for 14 years prior to the Camry would have accelerated and steered thru that whole situation without pause, hesitation or being out of control. I am at the beginning stage of discussing with an attorney, so, last points of contrast - a) I have never, for any issue, taken a new car back to a dealership for any problem, ever. I have been happy and satisfied with my purchase, and b) I have never in my life had to even consider the need for an attorney due to a faulty product. Until the 2018 Camry SE transmission. THIS CAR IS A RISK TO THE DRIVER AND PASSENGERS. I UNDERSTAND THE 2019 CAMRY TRANSMISSION IS UNCHANGED. BEWARE! Dec 2019 Update... regarding transmission... junk as previously stated. New... rear seatbelt warning alarm does not work correctly; it does not stop ringing after someone in the back seat who previously did not have their seatbelt buckled, then buckles their seatbelt. I am told their is no weight sensor in the back seats and the alarm has to do with the back doors being opened and closed... bottom line is that the problem had to be ‘fixed’ by DISABLING THE REAR SEAT ALARM, THUS TURNING OFF A SAFETY FEATURE. That is not simply not right. Utter nonsense. Never again

After 340 miles???
We are long time buyers and lessees of Toyota vehicles. Our 2015 camry lease was up so naturally we got a 2018 SE. First indication tire pressure warning light came on. Checked, everything ok. By the end of the 3rd week of possession all the warning lights came on and stayed on. Check engine malfunction-pre-collision system malfunction-secondary collision brake system malfunction-power steering malfunction. Do not drive, contact dealer immediately. Car towed to nearest dealer. After 4 hours problem could not be determined. They are contacting Toyota. Needless to say we are in a rental. After 340 miles this is not setting well on us. Stay tuned..
