Good car, but overrated

2003 Toyota Camry XLE 4dr Sedan (2.4L 4cyl 4A)

This is an incredibly well-built car that does most everything competently but nothing really well. Mine's a tricked-out XLE (4-cyl) with leather, roof, JBL system, heated seats, etc. I have nothing to complain at 60K miles, but can't really brag about it, either. Fact is, this car is dull as dishwater. The I-4 is a slug. The JBL sound system barely qualifies as "premium." I don't feel any connection to the road through the steering, which is over-assisted and much too light at all speeds. Build quality is outstanding, as is reliability. Good back seat room and seats are 7.5 on the 10 scale for comfort (our Volvo V70 is the 10). But the Camry is dull, dull, dull.

Great car, but what's next?

Smooth, quiet, big trunk, runs like a 6, quality inside and out, great suspension, brakes, sound system. Quality material in the seats and doors, almost a baby Lexus. The SE suspensions offered more body control and less lean and float than the le and xle. Priced less than the xle, with nearly all the add on's, the SE was a package that had the features I was looking for, ie, 16" performance tires, alloy wheels, four wheel disc brakes, ABS, fog lights, sun roof, and permium JBL 8 speaker sound system. 75% of toyotas sales are the 4cl, new engine in 2002, i-vtec, this produces as much hp as your standard american v6.

Great Family Sedan

I like the fact that it runs very quite; even at high speeds. It seems to be able to turn 'on a dime' I like the looks of the front end, but prefer the rear end of the 2002 model. The power of ilumination from the city lights is great, but the highway lights are phenominal. Lots of head and leg room; more than any other brand of car test driven.

Saved by a 30 day trial!

I intended to lease this car for my company use and decided to take advantage for a 30 day test drive the local dealer was offering. I had no idea at the start that I would actually pay the $1000 at the end of the month to give it back. This car was a total pig on the road with probably the worst performance I'd ever driven and mind you I once owned a Chevette! The interior was neat looking but very uncomfortable.

Drives/looks like the Lexus ES300 but thousands less.Got a great deal b/c of credit union discounts. This is my first Toyota and I must say the build quality is great.Very much an eye turner.A little lacking in the power department but does the trick getting on the highway.Engine noise is negligible and smoothe.Little road noise except for stock tires transmitting over irregular surfaces. Logical controls are all within arms reach and easy view.Steering's pretty light and has the big car 'feel' when it comes to handling.Toyota!Fix those spongy brakes! High,Cavernous trunk fits near everything.
