New 2005 Avalon XLS

2005 Toyota Avalon XLS 4dr Sedan (3.5L 6cyl 5A)

After looking at the Infiniti G-35 and the Acura TL as well as the Avalon, I went with the Avalon. These three vehicles are all around the same price range. The Avalon as equipped in the XLS package is just more car for the money. It is considerably larger than the other two vehicles. It is considerably more roomy for four passengers. The new styling isn't as boxy as the previous models. I had leased an Avalon in 1999 and thought it was one of the best cars I'd driven. It is also a very reliable and comfortable vehicle.

Best car I have ever owned

The Avalon limited is without question one of the best cars I have owned. I have owned a Volvo S80 and 740 turbo. I have owned a Mercedes E and S class. Yes I enjoyed my S class Mercedes but for the money, you can't beat the Avalon. I love the style outside and in. I have had more compliments on this car than any other. And, I love to drive it.

Solid compared to competition

2005 Toyota Avalon XLS 4dr Sedan (3.5L 6cyl 5A)

Ahead of Chrysler300, Ford500, and Buick Lacrosse, but has several shortcomings. The throttle is lagging, not enough headroom in the back, more road noise than I expected, and the wood interior looks and feels decidedly fake. HID Headlights not available on XLS. The steering is too light for the "performance sedan". Overpriced compared to Lexus ES330.

Avalon is Great Value

I test drove Buick Lacrosse, Chrysler 300 and Ford 500. There was no comparison for me. The Avalon blew them away with build quality, comfort , reliability and mpg. It has a 280hp 3.5 liter engine and still gets the best gas mileage of this group. Definitely consider this car!
