I've had this car 18 years. Best car I've ever had, very reliable and inexpensive to maintain. It's not a race car but otherwise It's fantastic

I just turned 20 and I've had the car for about 2 years. I have torn the hell out of the car and drove it like a bat out of hell. It always started up no matter what. I've had two minor wrecks in the car. And had to drive it with several problems. But it just won't die. There is always plenty of room. My stepdad who is 6ft 3inches use to drive it all the time.

I never thought I would ever keep a car this long but my Avalon still fulfills my needs. I It continues to be the roomy, quiet and comfortable vehicle that I purchased new in 2000. The visibility looking out, to the sides and to the rear are outstanding. I feel safe, relaxed and in control when I’m behind the wheel. Had a few (not major) maintenance issues in the eighth and tenth year. More recently, the CD player and radio stopped working. And now only the driver side window works. I never had a garage or carport, so the car’s exterior was showing its age with nicks and dings. But rather than trade in the car, I took it to Maaco where it was sanded and painted. What a difference that made! My brother saw it and said, “It looks like showroom!” Two continuing complaints are that the MPG has declined to 15 MPG in city driving, 22 MPG highway. And although the air conditioning has always worked great, it sometimes makes a short whistling sound. This has gone on for over ten years and Toyota cannot seem to figure out what to do to correct it. Earlier this year, shortly after 180,000 miles the transmission needed replacement. I still love driving this car, so rather than install a remanufactured tranny that would have required a six month (or longer) wait, decided to install a used tranny that came with a 3 year warranty. So far so good.

It's been exactly a year since I bought my 2000 Toyota Avalon XLS from a private sale. I purchased it with 124,000 miles and its been very reliable with not a single problem. It is really impressive that my 13 year old Avalon still provides a silky smooth drive and is very quiet even compared to never cars. This Avalon is a "poor man's" Lexus. I drove 26K miles in this year: 450 miles a week due to work, a 1750 road trip from GA to TX, and 7000 miles of small mountain trips. Even with both leaky valve cover gaskets, leaky cam seals, old timing belt and water pump and blown struts this Toyota has never left me stranded and drove excellent. Before I give this to my mom I will repair it.

We bought this car used (5 yrs old, in 2005)when I was 6 months pregnant with our first child. We've had NO issues with it at all. We've replaced one battery and two sets of wiper blades in the 5 1/2 years we've owned it, and it now has 210K on it. It's incredible, really. It's no longer when parked beside any other typical sedan (my in-laws had an Acura 3.2TL) but my mind finds it hard to understand where all the space inside comes from! My 6' tall husband can sit in the back seat with the front seats all the way back and his knees don't touch the front seats-we love that the backseat isn't just for the kids. Definately room for everyone in here!
