2024 Subaru Forester Consumer Reviews

I'll never buy another Subaru again! (well maybe)
Forty five year ago I pulled into a Subaru dealership by mistake, it was next to the Ford dealership where I planned on visiting to purchase a new Ford Bronco. While turning around the salesman standing in the lot asked if he could help me. I stopped and thought, Might as well check out the station wagon. I purchased my first Subaru that day.(a DL 1600 4WD) That was 12 Subarus ago. We have had up to 3 Subarus at one time. My last purchase was a 2009 Forester. It now has 200003 miles. With the exception of timing belts and the normal head gasket replacement it has served me well. We just purchased a new 2024 Forester Premium ,I'm going on 73 years old and I hoping it will be my last . Subaru had a slogan "Cheap to Keep" that may not be so now but I have never been let down while owning one. My wife and I love the way this vehicle handles and all the gingerbread features it offers compared to our 2009 Forester.

Subaru is solid
This is my second Subaru Forester. I have 2006 and now a 2023. I love the build quality, the safety, visibility, and durability. I guess most folks want a turbo option but I find the performance is fine. I don't care about a couple of seconds difference going 0-60. I compared the Forester to the CRV and RAV 4 and preferred the Forester.

Great bang for the buck
I had a 2016 Kia that was paid off and wanted something with AWD. Did many days/hours of research, looking, and personal experiences from family and friends. Subaru was up there already as an eyeballing as my grandparents in MN had one they drive down to KS where I am every year in theirs. Racked up 300k miles and they still have it up there as a back up. Price wise, it was asinine to get a 4x4 truck now as they are way too expensive for what they are unless you have to have one for work. Plus they lack in traction compared to AWD SUV’s/cars, I’ve had them multiple times and hence why most up in MN don’t use “4x4 trucks”. Anyways, I chose the forester sport model. Had the best of all worlds compared to the premium and wilderness. Acceleration as its reviews in “under powered”, guess depends on who’s driving….i don’t need to accelerate super fast as I use my eyes and brain to judge lights and other vehicles. Will be in the family for a long time and will get another once I pay this off and whenever I want a new one.

Loving my 2024 Forester in cascade green silica
Update: I have had my Forester for a year now and I’m still really satisfied with my Subie. I use the heated steering wheel all the time and I really like having a power lift gate. I recently went to an auto show and checked out the 2025 Forester and I’m glad I went with the 2024 because the touchscreen is a downgrade from actual knobs and buttons ( in my opinion). There are still a few 2024 Wilderness models out there so if you are shopping for a new SUV definitely test drive a Forester ( 2024 or 2025). I’ve had no problems with mine and it’s got my safely through some really big snow storms A week ago I took delivery of a 2024 Forester Touring trim ( Ontario Canada). Previously I had a 2020 Forester Convenience trim and wanted to get a new Forester before the redesign, I’m not a fan of the 2025. The touring trim offers excellent value and it has a lot of features. Heated seats ( front) and steering wheel, panoramic sun roof, power lift gate, larger screen. After driving German vehicles for many years I switched over to Subaru and now I’m a total fan of the brand. Beside Subaru I test drove so many other vehicles including RAV4- super expensive, cramped interior, long wait times, CRV- nice but very pricey and owners are complaining about quality, Mazda, BMW, Jeep- caught fire during the test drive! Even considered Audi because the Quattro is so nice to drive but my bank account couldn’t handle the cost of repairs. The Subaru was more comfortable, did everything well, was well priced, has 5 star safety rating, is a beast through snow and it’s reliable. And I don’t find it’s too slow or the CVT bad. Just don’t drive it like a performance car and you will find the power and handling more than ok. Excellent visibility too so it’s great for road trips. If you are in the market for a new vehicle test drive a Subaru.

My second Forester
I went from owning and running a successful law firm to a government job in a much more expensive region at much lower pay (but no stress). The changed finances meant replacing my 2018 Mercedes-Benz E300 (fully loaded) for a base model 2021 Forester. I expected a penalty box, but enjoyed three years and over 60,000 trouble-free and comfortable miles. Once off probation and making enough more money to get a nicer car I didn’t even think of going back to a luxury brand, but bought a 2024 Forest, this time in Limited trim. The new car is obviously much better equipped, but the basics are identical, which is a very good thing. These cars are smooth, quiet, comfortable and most importantly, reliable. My 2021 only required routine maintenance except for a set tires, which were the fault of road debris, not the car. I plan to keep this one a lot more than three years at it really is as nice as my wife’s Mercedes GLC.

Automotive reviewers drive like car thieves!
Almost every review I've read in the Forester says the acceleration is slow. Well, if you consider the context in which this vehicle will be used, the acceleration is more than fine. I'm usually above the speed limit before I merge on the freeway without even trying. The average auto review journalist drives some pretty fast cars to review so their opinion is skewed. This ain't no BMW X5 and it's not trying to be. After owning my '23 Limited for a year and have 14k+ miles on it, I've had only 1 or 2 situations where I wished it had a turbo. Also, driving a CVT car is a little different than a traditional automatic. You have to sort of roll the accelerator or gradually press it and you get much better and faster results than just stomping on it.
Good enough
Lane centering should be tuneable for a driver, depending on driving style. Engine weakness is noticeable, but not as bad as many claim. The torque is applied in the right places, but no one is going to mistake it for a Tesla type (your choice of Tesla here). The visibility is impressive, though the seats are covered with a cheap fabric on my Base model and I am skeptical about how long the ergonomic support can last. The seat adjustment functions seem to be the industry standard. Electronic wizardry is straightforward.

Beautiful car!
I love the Forester! It’s a beautiful car and drives well. Not as much kick as a Mercedes, but it’s a different engine style so that’s not really what it’s made for. It’s really good at going up hills and has no trouble maintaining speed. One thing I don’t like is the display. At certain times of the day, the sun hits it at just the right angle to give off a huge glare. This should be fixed. And tbh, I really don’t need a touchscreen display in my car. I’d prefer one without.

Love my new ride!
Safety features are number one with Subarus. I am a real estate agent and often have clients ride with me. I feel good about their safety and comfort. It’s also an attractive vehicle. I’m still learning about all the bells and whistles—there are many—but so far, I am enjoying all the features!

So far, GREAT!!!
Wow!! I am impressed with this vehicle! It looks small from the outside but it will fool you. The inside is spacious. Plenty of leg room and head room even for tall people. Lots of great features. Rides well. The motor looks easy to work on and very accessible. Affordable vehicle and lots of bang for your buck. Great gas mileage too. Not disappointed so far!!

New forester
Car is fine the adaptive cruise is great. Problem is the seats are not comfortable at all. My car has 500$ miles on it and both drivers and passengers seats are already breaking down. I am big 220 lbs. But my wife is only 140 lbs and her seat is already breaking down.

I have been driving this new car only 2 weeks. I really like that it has less bells and whistles than the fancier models. It has great visibility and many safety features. It is very roomy and good head height for my tall husband.

Safe, reliable, smart.
When you make the same engine and transmission year after year you refine your craft and get this amazing vehicle. Subaru has struck gold with this, don’t know why they are redesigning with the 2025. If I could buy this car new the rest of my life, I would. My third Subaru forester, will likely drive this also till it’s a pile of dust, then will buy another forester. FOV is insane, I’ve gotten so spoiled with it o can’t drive anything else. Tops every other car in creature comfort. I’m well over 6 foot and it’s not a squeeze by any means. Amazing vehicle. Go buy it.

We did a lot of online shopping and talking with friends and coworkers before making the decision but have not found a single thing to complain about since we picked up our new Baby! So far, after 9 months, this car has been great.
For a 4 wheel drive vehicle, it handles well on the road. The larger engine has more pep without sacrificing mpg and the gas tank is larger than most small suvs. The bells and whistles are fun once I learned them. I love the premium stereo and leather interior. My only complaint is the lack of a CD player.

Grab a '24 Before They're Gone, Excellent SUV
Just bought a gray '24 Forester Premium. It's a smooth ride, comfortable, quiet, and classy. Not to mention it has the best AWD in the industry. It's also still built in Japan. Hard to imagine the next generation Forester will surpass this current gen for quality and practicality. Go buy one while you can, you won't regret it !

Sassy Subaru
This will probably be the last car I buy due to I am retired and this is my dream car. I love my Forester. It is perfect size for my it drives so good. I am still learning all the buttons but such fun.
from ford escape se to 2024 forester touring
not yet delivered probably near end of January hopefully, but this will be my last new vehicle i buy, traded in my 2017 ford escape se, i have been looking around and researching online for over 6 months took numerous suvs for test drives and finally made the plunge, and ordered the 2024 forester touring after taking countless suvs for test drives i simply found the forester the most comfortable driving vehicle, and after 3 test drives i made up my mind, this was the one for sure, so here's hoping i made the right choice after all these months of test driving and looking around, but i truly love the design and comfort of this suv and ride is not even comparable to my escape to say the least ,just a good looking and riding suv all around would fully recommend if your looking, take a look and test drive the 2024 subaru forester, i was quite amazed with handling capabilities of this suv and ride quality and inside comfort of the seats is great.

All about the rocks
Had we known about the grinding rocks getting into wheel wells we would NOT HAVE PURCHASED our 2024 Forester Wilderness. It is NOT MADE for off-roading. We live down 10 miles of gravel, never gotten a rock stuck in any other car's wheel well, including my beautiful Crosstrek ..not wilderness package. Now EVERY day we listen to screeching rocks in wheels. Total deal breaker.....if we knew about it. DO not buy this car if you're on or frequent gravel roads. If not, it's a complete dream...love it! "Off-roading" is a suburban warrior term. Shame on Subaru for not fixing this issue and continuing to sell to folks on gravel. We hate our 24 Forester Wilderness for this reason alone. Embarrassing. I wonder if I wasted 2 hours every day going to Sub dealer if they would do something about it....like give us a different car.

Best Vehicle I Have Owned
I had two Toyota Sienna Vans for ten years each. My son has CP and uses a walker. I got tired of the size of the van when parking and we had moved in to a townhome with the garage in the back with a narrow alley. My 2020 Forester Premium is high enough for my son to easily get in, plenty of room for his walker in the back, and is very easily driven into my garage. Love all the bells and whistles with the Premium. Don't ever take it off road. Has better gas mileage than the Sienna Vans. Controls are easy to use. Service Center at my Subaru dealer is awesome. Couldn't be happier.

Perfect the dogs and me
I’ve had the Wilderness since April and I have to say I LOVE THIS VEHICLE. Drawbacks could be the engine, but I don’t press it for acceleration from a full stop. When I need to pass, I’ve had no trouble. But, if you’re looking for spirited acceleration, this isn’t your choice. But, the breaking and handling are great. Gas milage is pretty good on the hwy. But, I drive it mostly in the city, and keep the engine running often during the summer (because of the dogs and living in the desert). Of course the safety features are top notch. In addition to reliability, I purchased this vehicle because I have two dogs, and wanted to get some light off-roading in on weekends. For that it’s PERFECT. The seating material is exactly what I wanted/needed for the dogs. It wipes clean easy. I keep the back seats down and it holds a Big Barker XL mattress (great for two dogs 74 and 50 lbs) well with room for water bowl and other items. I’m impressed with the off-roading. No wilderness type areas, all desert with rocks and sand.

Feeling the Love
Traded in a 2013 Outback for a 2024 Forester. Love all the new safety features—especially EyeSight. It made a 7 hour drive on an interstate easier—less manual braking required. The Forester is very comfortable and held all the luggage and gear for 2 people on a 4-day lodge-to-lodge hike. Good gas mileage—30 mpg on the interstate.

Very smooth driving, exterior and interior is gorgeous! I ordered a Wlderness in Autumn Green and i love driving it! I had been thinking about buying a Subaru for a few years, and I'm so glad i took the plunge and bought the car of my dreams! I watched and read reviews, and they were all positive, and it helped me make my decision.

In The Shop but Looking Good
I bought a new 2024 Subaru Forester Limited in Cascade Green. It is an attractive car with many nice features including heated steering wheel and a navigation system that is actually easy to use. Visibility from the cabin is excellent, and the car rides and drives very well. I do miss the CD player, which is no longer offered, but that is a minor complaint. The safety gear, such as blind spot warning and rear cross traffic alert, work well and are a blessing. Unfortunately, the car experienced some type of electrical system failure and had to be towed to the dealership. This was not expected in a car with only 3000 miles on it, but it is the same thing that happened with my wife's new Subaru Legacy a couple years ago. Although I fear Subaru quality has slipped in recent years, I still believe that they should be considered by drivers wanting an all-wheel drive car that is user-friendly. Update: I have now been driving the car for nearly a year, and the vehicle has proven to be comfortable and reliable (the dealer replaced a relay switch and updated the electronics in response to the malfunction mentioned above). I replaced the original equipment tires, as I was unhappy with their lack of traction, so I feel I'm ready for winter. As noted in my original review, the Forester has many positive points, and I feel it deserves to be on the short list of anyone wanting a small to medium size AWD SUV. As to the future, I'm hoping Subaru can produce a viable hybrid that will get good gas mileage
what's with the lighting?
I just bought the Forester 2024. I cant stand the headlights! They do not illuminate the whole road. They illuminate only the bottom portion of road visible through the windshield. I am only 5'2" and have to look under this dark area to see the road. This is ridiculous, I cant see the road!
So much wrong with this car.
Where to start with this car… first off I got the new 24 a month ago it’s a fleet vehicle for my company. The cabin air system can’t defrost the front windshield without being full blast because the defrost is centre to the window and does not reach the driver side. The auto air system in the winter will always have heat on no matter what temperature you seem to set it to. The steering wheel is not centred to the drivers portion of the car and there’s more dashboard to the left and there is the right making the whole thing seems slightly off by a few inches also makes things uncomfortable and long drives. Lane departure system cannot tell the difference between lane lines, snow, or even different coloured pavement. turn it off it is garbage. Adaptive cruise control cannot tell the difference between a car, and if you are coming to the bottom of the hill. There is no way to turn off adaptive cruise control. Additionally, you have to turn cruise control on every time you restart the car. Have the digital speedometer on? well say goodbye to that if you have a phone call. for whatever reason Subaru has decided that the only place to tell you that you’re on the phone is the driver console. there is no way to turn this off so as long as you’re on the phone, you will have no digital speedometer. Speaking of the centre consul. It’s so poorly place. That’s if you’re either too short or too tall you can’t see half of it. Even if you adjust the steering wheel. The windshield is a magnet for rocks. There are 20 of us who got this car, part of the company fleet and within a month 3 of us had giant cracks along the windshield. The windshield is at an angle that doesn’t deflect. The rocks rather destroys the window. The rear window defrost is so weak that it cannot melt ice apparently, so if you get ice build up in the winters as you drive , tough, you gotta pull over and scrape it off. Subaru has decided to dedicate entire giant button in the centre consul to turning off traction control, or changing to one of the three built-in performance modes. This takes up a large amount of space giving you very little room for drink holder. The hilarious thing is that on the steering wheel, there is dedicated buttons already in place for these modes. You cannot have more than one phone connected to your car at a time. It’s simply can’t fathom the idea of switching between two active devices. Automatically if you get a call on one phone, you have to manually switch the connected phones over if you wanna to take that call in the car. I’ve had this car for a month and I’ve already found these problems. I’m sure there’s more I’m sure more come up as I continue to drive I can’t fathom how anybody who calls themselves an engineer but any effort into this there’s so much wrong, and if I could give a zero star I would.

One month In
There is not enough storage in the front. Cup holders are awkward. The console is very deep but not very wide the glove box is not big enough to hold anything but the manuals. Noisy when starting up. The engine turn off when stopping is sporadic and annoying. Hard to see out the back window due to cargo cover and headrests and I have the drivers seat up as high as possible. So back up camera is necessary for that reason alone. Find the lane departure annoying and have turned that off for in town driving. MPG is 20 after 600 miles of driving. Would not buy again. There is supposed to be a revamp on the 2025. Live in fl and you are unable to put any tint on the front windshield due to the driving assist camera. The front windshield did not come at all tinted so need to be conscious of applying sunscreen when going on longer drives in daylight hours.
Wish had kept my 2011 Honda CR-V LX
On a positive note, the 2024 Subaru Forester drives smoothly and quietly. But that’s about it for this driver. -- Honda’s headlights came on only when I turned them on. Parking lights were nice and dim. Subaru’s headlights automatically come on full when it’s put into gear, forward or reverse. So can’t back into my driveway or pull forward out of it anymore at night without headlights blasting my neighbors across the street. There’s not a way to turn off this auto headlight “feature”. Subaru’s parking lights are also almost as bright as full headlights. -- Honda didn’t have a computer screen in the center dashboard. Subaru’s computer screen doesn’t go all the way off when the car is shut off. The screen is blank, but it’s still gray, so still on. The only way to turn the screen all the way off is to press and hold the left knob below the screen a couple times. Only then does it go all the way to black and off. In addition, the computer screen, even if it’s been turned off, automatically comes on to show the rear view camera when in reverse. There’s not a way to turn this auto “feature” off if you’d rather use your eyes. -- Honda had much better front storage -- 2 glove compartments, a couple slots in the center dashboard, floor space between the two front seats, a fold-down shelf of a middle console so storage space on the floor below it. Subaru has only 1 glove compartment, and a relatively small lidded compartment in the center console. -- Honda’s gas cap was on the driver side. Much more convenient than the Subaru’s on the passenger side. -- Honda had tinted windows from the back seats to the cargo area. Subaru doesn’t. -- Honda’s heat and a/c vents were more versatile. Both the driver and passenger middle vents could be directed toward the driver. Subaru’s middle vent on the passenger side is blocked by the frame around the computer screen, so can only be pointed toward the passenger side or straight ahead. The Honda needed a lot of work, but based on what its advantages were over the Subaru, it would have been worth it.
NYC DO NOT BUY 15.9 MPG
Of all the good things about this vehicle this is the BAD of it do not buy if you live in NYC. HORRIBLE MPG. You will get 15.9 mpg. A full tank of gas it say my range 220 miles. You read it correctly 15.9 mpg 220 range on a full tank of gas.

Trading it in with factory gas still in it!
I bought this 2024 Subaru Forester and The first 200 Miles was a nightmare. This engine on and engine off at stop lights is a scam!! They get to claim 28 city 33 hwy. If you disable the auto start stop nightmare feature, your gas mileage is about half of advertised MPG. THE BIG LIE!!!

Great vehicle
Love this vehicle. It is very roomy inside compared to similar style cars. I have a 6’5” son who has plenty of space in the front or back seats. Has a good-sized storage area and seats fold down flat. Drives well, and the visibility is excellent. Only downsides are I wish there was more storage space for the driver’s seat area (bigger console & phone area), and I would completely get rid of the extremely annoying auto-start/shut-off “gas saver” thing. I’ve saved $2 (yes, just two single dollars) in gas in my first 10,000 miles and have to constantly deal with the car shutting down and restarting on me. But everything else about the car is great.
Got Subaru Forester Ltd
Price goes up fast due to inflation and inventory 2024 are short. I bought Forester Limited in June 2024 when new cars 2025 came in with increases $1800 more. Like all Limited comes with option and this only last car wait for me at the dealership. So far it drive smooth with eyesight is helpful for driving assist.

forester review
Solid value and the safest car in its class to boot. Quiet and secure ride. If you ride hard, don't get it, it could use anther 30 horsepower.
Great Touring
Reviewed all the competitors and decided to get the 2024. The Forester drives well and exceeds Edmund’s review. The 2.5 is not slow by any means. Gets better than 27 mpg between street and highway. Did a 2,000 mile round trip to Colorado and it handled the highways and steep climbs very well. Wind noise which Edmunds did not mention is very noticeable above mph. The leather seats are too firm and cause discomfort. Only a few suvs in this price range that I reviewed with 8 way power seats for passenger side. Excellent safety features. Waiting to test this beast in Colorado snow. I would prefer electronic folding mirrors and softer seats. Otherwise I am very happy with the 2024 Forester.
