like everything about this car except steering wheel controls. too crowded; always hitting some button unintentionally, the sport model has nice wheels. and better spoiler, pros keep saying it needs more power , i disagree, for 90% of people the power is fine. i have owned 41 cars so far, and i really like this one. .

I just picked up my 2020 Pure Red Crosstrek. I love the cloth seats, very nice along with great back seats. For me, being 5ft 8 in size was never a problem. It work very well with all the added extras you can pick up. It seats high enough so you can see whats up ahead. And the Subaru AWD is just wonderfull. The cargo space is just what me and my wife need So do your home work and look into a Crosstrek. So many people complain that its not this or that. All I have to say is , why did you buy it. Its a great car and what it has for the money is so much more than other brands. And you know what. You can get red paint at no extra cost!

Subaru 2020 improved

Subaru listened to the consumer. I just purchased a limited model. The new true red. Love it. The back up camera is larger and you can see more angles when backing up. This vehicle now has the automatic door locks- a must have... and there is a sport control that gives the Crosstrek a little extra punch if you want it. Has all the previous features with eyesight, cruise, blind spot notification. Great vehicle with all the safety features as well.

Best suv!

As a lifelong Toyota owner, I was reluctant to leave the brand but Toyota suv ratings just weren’t great. I looked at Honda CR-V, and Mazda but every auto rating publication rated the subaru higher. So I visited my local subaru dealer and test drove one. The ratings are right- this is one fantastic compact suv. Not only does it drive like a dream- quiet, smooth and responsive with lots of pep, but the safety features are awesome. I have terrible night vision and for the last few years I have avoided driving at night. But not anymore. The Eyesight safety features that let me know when I can safely change lanes to the incredible steering responsive headlights that turn when I turn have changed my life. I can drive at night now because I can see! My new car is loaded with other goodies too for a price comparable to its competitor cars who don’t have these safety features. Definitely look at the subaru Crosstrek before considering anything else.

2020 Crosstrek Hybrid in real life 15 EV miles

2020 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid 4dr SUV AWD (2.0L 4cyl gas/electric plug-in hybrid CVT)

5,000 mile update: Crosstrek Hybrid has a 8.8 kw battery same as Prius Prime. The difference is with Prius Prime we averaged about 30 pure EV miles before gas engine kicked in. The Crosstrek however states that 17 EV miles but in real world driving with AC on you can only get about 15 EV miles. Also Crosstrek going over 65mph the gas engine kicks on so on the highway I push "save" mode and use gasoline instead. Subaru AWD handles well and the quality is better than Outback and Ascent because Crosstrek and Foresters are still 100% made in Japan. I've driven cross country all highway and the best was 29 mpg. Don't buy this expecting a Prius mpg but do buy this for AWD handling and 15 EV electric off roading miles. Also the cargo barely fits 2 carry on so you will definitely need a second suv if you have a family or a dog bigger than 10lbs. Another con is rear seats do not have AC vent so it will get hot in the sunbelt. 2020 Limited and Hybrid trim level Crosstreks receive updated LED headlight design, with the Hybrid being distinguished with silver trim along the projector beams. Another feature Subaru added to all 2020 Crosstrek is automatic door lock / unlock in the event of an accident. This is an important feature that could potentially save lives. For about same amount of money $39k msrp I would rather wait for the 2021 Rav4 Prime with over 40 EV miles. Sorry Subaru, to stay competitive you have to step up the battery range!

We've been loyal Honda buyers for years; but when we moved to western NY we decided we needed one of our cars to be an SUV for weather and flexibility. Since we were going to replace my husband's car and he didn't like any of the bigger Hondas, we bought a 2020 Crosstrek in late summer / Fall of 2020 . And although the buying experience was not as positive as I feel it should have been, we liked the car very much. Until a few weeks ago. My husband drives the car daily. I drive it on long trips to visit family once a month. These trips are 500+ miles long and wind through some fairly isolated stretches of western NY and PA and then are stretches of high speeds and heavy traffic. The point being you want a car you feel safe in. A few weeks ago my husband said the steering wheel started to pull to one side or the other. He said it was such a hard jerk he couldn't believe I couldn't feel it sitting in the front passenger seat. Of course I thought he was crazy. Until I drove it myself and felt the same thing. It was worse than what he described and incredibly startling. The steering wheel visibly jerks in your hand! It feels stuck for a couple of seconds. Enough to scare the crap out of you. We have just over 7000 miles on this car. We took it to the dealer the same day I experienced it. Luckily I was only about 10 minutes from home. It was so scary I cancelled my trip to visit family. The dealer said they checked it out and there's nothing wrong although they did a front-end realignment (why a car would need that with only 7k miles on it is a mystery). The contact from the dealer said it must have been the wind. I'm not stupid. It wasn't windy out. My husband and I have been driving for 40+ years. We know what WIND feels like. Especially living north of Buffalo. I don't know what we're going to do about this other than monitor the situation and continue to complain to them but at this point I do NOT recommend you buy or lease this car.

Phenomenal little car

I went from a 2007 Subaru Forester to this car. They're about the same size, so if you're looking for a little car with a lot of might, it's a great choice. I've taken it on ski and backpacking trips where the Sports mode came in handy getting up the steep hills. I've used it to haul 2 kayaks which fit fine. Mine came with the aero bars so if you're planning on using it for canoes/kayaks, it's a great investment. The Intelligence mode is great for the highway for just cruising. I'm still getting used to the sensors in general, but if you're going from an older car to this one, it's expected for about any car. Overall, great car!

I purchased my 2020 Crosstrek Limited approximately 7 weeks ago, and couldn’t be happier with the vehicle at this point. I am a first time Subaru owner, and moved to the Crosstrek when the Ford Escape changed its body style for 2020. I compared the Jeep Compass with the Crosstrek during my purchase process, and while I liked a lot of things about the Jeep, it felt a bit loose in the steering and it seemed overpriced in terms of what I would have gotten in safety features, etc. I bought the loaded up Crosstrek with the Harmon Karden stereo system, sunroom, leather interior, 18 inch wheels etc. I am super pleased with the handling, comfort, gas mileage, and convenience /safety features included. The EyeSight system is amazing, even telling me to move ahead in the drive up line when the car ahead of me moves and I haven’t been paying close attention! I have blind spot alert, lane keeping, accident avoidance, etc..all things that I could not obtain in the Jeep without paying at least $4k more..not to mention the difficulty of FINDING the Jeep equipped with the full safety package and also the leather, moonroof, power seats, power windows, etc. I did research the Escape a bit I because I loved the Escape I owned, but there is no leather available until you move into the Titanium, which is north of $35kin most instances; all other models of the Escape seemed to feature some type of “pleather” seat material called activex.. In short, I feel that I have a great vehicle with great features( both safety and convenience ) and I feel I paid a reasonable price for the car . Much more “bang for my buck” with the Subaru than I ever would have had for the Ford or the Jeep. I have never purchased a nonUSA manufactured vehicle in my life-I’m 60- but I just felt I would get a lot more for my money going with the Subaru, and the Crosstrek was perfect for me. Hopefully I will always feel this way! My only advice is to check this vehicle out if you find that you have interest in it. I almost went with the Compass and checked this vehicle out at the last minute—so glad I did!

Absolutely love this car

This is my third Subaru. A little background: I drive ~30,000 miles a year for work and kind of go through cars pretty quickly. First I bought a 2014 Subaru Impreza and absolutely loved that car. AWD is critical for me as I live in the northeast and rarely does snow cancel my job/driving to work. After I accumulated 100,000 miles, my dad needed a commuter car as his F-150 was by no means a commuter car. I sold him my car and bought a 2017 Subaru Impreza Sport. To be honest, I kind of hated this car. At first the sport suspension system was cool, but it was not practical for me as I am more of a, "go the speed limit around turns" kind of girl. It was also very low to the ground and there must have been 10 recalls on that car in the 3 years I owned it. I felt lucky to get out of my lease, and honestly was ready to move on from Subaru. Then I test drove the 2020 Crosstrek. I had test drove a Honda CRV, Toyota Rav4, Kia Sportage, Subaru Outback and Hyundai Tuscan - the Crosstrek handled better than them all. I ended up getting a Cool Kahki Gray 2020 Subaru Crosstrek Premium with the moon roof package. First, the "cool kahki gray" is super sexy. One of the best colors for a car I have ever seen. Everywhere I go, people go out of their way to give me compliments on it. So that is awesome. I did not go with the Limited version, because leather seats are not a huge deal to me, but the larger display screen would have been nice (just could not justify the extra 2k for that alone). The car handles beautifully. I drive through some rough areas of road getting to different construction sites for my clients and I rarely feel the occasional pot hole that sneaks up on me. I thought I would hate the blind spot sensor and lane departure, but it has actually come in pretty clutch. Often times I am on the road at 4am and the added safety features have come in handy. Driving so much for work, makes MPG pretty important. I was worried going from the Impreza, which I averaged 31 MPG to the Crosstrek. The larger gas tank is nice, because I am actually filling up less now, even though I am averaging right around 27 MPG. The moon roof is a sweet upgrade, as I have never had a car with a moon roof. I also had the dealership include a hitch, Thule bike rack and Subaru Star Link. The bike rack is clutch as my husband and I MTB. An upgrade you HAVE TO ASK FOR is for the dealership to include star link. This lets you start your car, control the temperature, lock/unlock your doors from your phone. I cannot describe how clutch this has been! Finally, the size is absolutely perfect for me. Even though it is virtually the same car as the Impreza, it feels 5x more spacious. My husband no longer complains when we take my car and actually enjoys being it. I cannot recommend this car enough. From ready to move on from Subaru to encouraging others to get this car, I really do not have enough positive things to say about it. If there is one small negative I would say it is that there are no air vents in the back seat. It is OK though, as I can turn my car on and crank the air from my phone well before I hop in so my dog does not struggle with the heat.

Gas Saving SUV ?

John, 02/15/2020

I bought the 2019 Crosstrek Plug in hybrid to do something for the enironment. Good clearance, and trailer pulling - two things I wanted for work and fun. I wish the electric range was longer, but by plugging in the middle of the day, I can usually go all electric around town for 40 to 45 miles- considerably farther than the EPA estimates. I added a 240 volt plug and purchased a second charger (despite assurances from the dealership thet the included unit could take both voltages) That means even an hour at home gives me another 10 miles. Electric range drops if you drive on the freeway at 65. A few too many buttons in the steering wheel- I will get used to them- or learn to ignore them. Interior is spacious for passengers (compared to my old Forester). The seats fold down easily for carrying tools or gear and make up for the decreased cargo space.

Know what trim line you are interested in as well as optional equipment. I have had the car for about a week and am very pleased with it. Two minor annoyances: gas gauge is very small. They could have dropped the tach and replaced it with a decent size gauge though this probably wouldn't please those who want a manual.

Hybrid mpg worse than Sport model

Jennifer , 04/28/2021
2020 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid 4dr SUV AWD (2.0L 4cyl gas/electric plug-in hybrid CVT)

I leased my Crosstrek Hybrid 6 months ago and have been constantly disappointed, embarrassed even, in the lack of fuel efficiency. My niece bought a new Crosstrek Sport around the same time. We’ve both taken our cars on long road trips, used for moderate commutes, and in town driving at lower speeds/more stops. Her fully gas engine has consistently gotten slightly better gas mileage than my hybrid, particularly on longer distance highway trips. I do quite a bit better on short in town trips, but still average way below Subaru’s claims. The absolute best gas mileage I have every achieved in the car is 50mpg, doing urban driving in Portland, OR. The mpg on the window sticker and Subaru website will tell you the vehicle gets between 35-90mpg. I honestly never expected to get 90mpg, we all know those claims are exaggerated. However, I never expected that my combined highway/city mpg would be less than 35mpg. The rest of the car is fine. It isn’t as loaded with premium features as I expected, comparing to my brother’s Outback Limited. No rain sensing wipers, no automatic lift gate, no remote start. I could totally live with these missing luxuries if it achieved anywhere near the advertised mpg. It looks nice, it’s comfortable, the safety features are fantastic, and the handling is actually a little better than expected. The drivetrain feels inconsistent though, sometimes runs smoothly and pleasantly unremarkable but other times it sounds and feels like it is working way too hard. Yes, off course I have reached out to Subaru with my concerns. I have taken it in twice and they find no defects. Even though they were not even able to get better than 35mpg driving it around town. They said I must be doing something wrong. Quick acceleration and hard braking, the mansplainer told me, can really impact your fuel economy. Apparently, you also have to keep it charged! These gentlemen at the dealership were actually very nice and well intentioned, but did they really think I didn’t know you have to keep a plug in hybrid charged? Also, I use one of those auto insurance apps that monitors my driving and even when I am intentionally trying to get the best mpg with gradual starts/stops, consistent moderate speeds - I cannot achieve better than 35mpg. That is with exhausting focus on how I am driving, which is not sustainable. I average 27mpg. My niece’s Sport averages 34mpg. In this case the hybrid seems actually worse for the environment. You are using more gas and the materials used in a lithium battery are not exactly eco safe. I believe it involves mining and special disposal precautions for starters. I have reached out to Subaru corporate and they have declined to comment or respond other than reiterating my lease terms. So disappointed.

Pros and Cons

Five day loaner from dealer while my '07 Forester was being repaired. PROS - Smooth Ride for a compact. - Decent handling. - Simple Controls (by today's standards). - Nice interior. - CVT is unobtrusive, smooth and simulates shifting. CONS - Tinny horn. Sounds like it came off a tricycle. - Pronounced road and wind noise at interstate speeds. - Tends to wander; constant steering adjustments required. - So-so acceleration. The sticker on this car is pushing $30K. You would think for that kind of money a decent horn could be installed. There is no Subaru kit available to upgrade, either.

Great car Driving base model which if your careful Can get out the door in low 20's and that is an excellent value Easy to end up at 30 k with tax if you dress it up Would stongly consider paying the extra for a Forrester or Outback before I would do that Much more car with those Bigger that a compact SUV, but smaller and less roomy inside than full size sedans I am used to. Smaller size car in certain circumstances (urban areas) can be advantage though and it is nice complement to my sedan and excellent choice for my kids who are home using it till they can return to college.

I am 85 years old and have a 2020 Subaru Crosstrek with 14,082 miles. Today I went to have my car inspected and my tires wouldn't pass inspection. So I had to purchase 4 new tires costing $636.40. The car was purchased January 2020. Myself plus several other people can't believe that with those few miles that those tires wouldn't pass inspection. I love my Crosstrek and have own a Subaru since 2003. If I ever purchase or know anyone buying a Subaru I will make sure that they know to put better tires on it before driving out of the lot.

There are a dozen low-rent things 'bout this car that are supremely annoying! And don't get the Rock Fosgate audio upgrade...all it does is AMP its inherent crappiness. Unlistenable! Only reason I gave it one star: for the compass which is cool to have.

Great small AWD SUV

We first really thought the styling, especially from the rear, was eye catching. After having a 2018 Sport, which was t-boned and written off (without serious injuries to either of us) it was a no-brainer to replace it with a new 2020 Sport model. The car handles very well, gets us to our cottage in serious snow and the mileage overall in 19 months is an excellent 7.3 litres per 100 km! We are not hard drivers so the 2.0 boxer engine is more than adequate.

My Crosstrek is a beautiful pearl whit and has all the safety features I wanted. The car has not a scratch or dent on it. my salesman, Don, provided the Car Facts, the inspection report and prior maintenance performed on the car. What more could I ask for?!

Love my Crosstrek Limited; small, but roomy; dependable; wanted to trade for 2024, but don’t like the color selection!

Limited cargo space but huge passenger area for a little car. Super trainer as an electric vehicle - really helped move us into the 21st century:)
