Affordable and Efficient

Though I've only had this car for a few months, I've taken it on five 800 mile trips (13-14 hours each). The car is very comfortable. I only wish I has sprung for the cruise control. It is very fuel efficient (30 mpg), yet less powerful than my '94 Ford Mustang, but for what I save in gas I wouldn't even consider complaining. The back seat is extremely roomy; everyone is surprised by how spacious the entire car is. I wanted a inexpensive and fuel-efficient vehicle that would be able to fit some cargo without any problems, and this is it. I like that this "toaster oven on wheels" looks different. If you are concerned about style, get the wheel upgrade, it really makes the car look nice.

Great except for the windshields

I've had this car for almost two years. I loved the unique design and interior room. The interior design looks a little cheap, but better than the TC. I still love the vehicle, except for the fact that I am going onto my third windshield in two years. I just replaced the windshield three months ago and the new windshield is cracked already. There's a whole section on this site about the windshields always cracking. Great car except for the windshields. Be prepared to pay money for replacements.

Lowest Total Cost of Ownership

After doing research (we are talking spreadsheets) on hybrids and other fuel efficient vehicles, I settled on the xB. I am 6'3" and commute at least 80 miles a day, 5 days a week. Additionally, I truck around clients to show real estate and needed good legroom all around. Lastly gas mileage, dependability, and resale value were taken into account. This little box financially makes sense and is fun and comfortable. Doing it again, I would have gotten silver instead of black (had to try black once in my life) and an automatic transmission as I wear dress shoes to work (little pedals and Rockports don't mix), but this is no fault of the car's by any means. This vehicle is so functional it makes you question ALL other vehicles.

My Popcorn Popper

I purchased a used 2004 Scion xB that I found on the Internet and drove it from CT to IN with no problem. I wanted to buy a new car, but this car had $2,000 in accessories and he sold it for $1,000 less than the blue book price. The previous owner tinted the back windows with a darker tint, and I was concerned about seeing other drivers. After almost 3 weeks, I am finally getting used to driving a manual, now it just comes natural. My hubbie calls it a popcorn popper, because it gets good gas mileage! I am totally pleased.

Bought the car new on 06. Ten years later, and 186,000 miles it is still going strong. We've made the NY to FLA trip 6 times, ski and never a problem. No major repairs ever- only scheduled maintenance and oil changes. Simply put- the best car we've ever owned.

I just rolled my Scion xb. it rolled onto the driver's side and I climbed out without a scratch! No windows broken, no roof or hood damage, no rear damage. Just point of impact (and it's not that bad really) and scratches all along the driver's side since it was laying on that side. This is a safe car, guys, and I'm a lucky gal.

I've had my Scion xB since February 2004 and still love everything about it. The gas milage is great and I haven't had any trouble of any kind at all. I travel a lot and find it comfortable and easy running. I saw a white xB on a Tuesday and bought my black one the very next Saturday. I have lots of room for my grandson and my dog!

What's Up With the Windshield?

I test drove this car and fell in love. It has so much room. As i was making a trip I heard a loud pop and there was a crack in my windshield there is no one around me to throw up a rock or anything. I took the car to my dealer after six days of ownership. They said it was a rock crack and I would be responsible for replacing it. I looked online and there are tons of people who are having mysterious cracks appear in their windshields. I can't afford to be payin' for a new windshield every six days. Scion is gonna have to step up and fix this problem.

Toyota Should Rethink

When I first bought the car it was a smooth, quiet ride. Now, that I have put 13,000 miles on it, it shakes, rattles, and rolls. There is so much interior noise and the interior is made with cheap looking plastic. It gets good gas mileage but, is terrible on the highway and has no acceleration and the throttle hesitates. I love the fact that the whole car has a lot of space especially in the back seat. I do a lot of highway driving and it's a comfortable ride. If you're looking for a car with high performance, this is not your car. Get the tC instead. If you're looking for a car to drive around town to get you from point A to point B then this is the car for you!

The 2006 Scion xB is perfect for both first time buyers and experienced consumers. It has all the you can want in a car for a more than reasonable price of $15,100. It comes standard with power evarything and a amazing Pioneer radio. It also comes with a port to plug your MP3 player right in so you can listen to all your music downloads. Its fuel economy puts it above most cars out there with 30-35 miles per gallon. Besides those features the Scion has massive amounts of space inside.

I've been driving my 2006 Scion xB for two months now, having previously owned a Honda Odyssey. My xB is so much fun to drive, and handles corners so well, that I'm having a blast. My husband was hesitant, but is now thinking of getting one for himself! My college-aged daughters are begging to drive it during their school break. This car is really deceptive, being unbelievably roomy inside, handling the road well, and generally just zipping through traffic and into the smallest spaces. I added the rear bumper guard, cruise control, and an armrest, and really felt that everything else I would ever need was included. The visiblity is wonderful, I get from 29-36 mpg, and, even being fully loaded, insurance is cheap!

I never really went in thinking I would get this car. After I test drove it, I fell in love. It's a nice smooth ride, a nice spacious interior, and what more could you get out of "the box" other than the features that come standard?! The sound is nice, I can use my iPod without having to buy extra connectors, and there's so much room in there I don't know how to use it! My next thing will be taking a road trip with it.

I love the fact that I was actually able to get the car stock and I was able to get the car I wanted in three days. This car comes with all the options that one needs for comfort. The interior is so spacious, it seems to defy physics. I smile at the gas pump as my fuel economy has gone from 13 to 31 mpg and I am no longer afraid of the possibility of $4+/gallon prices. I am amazed at the car's ability to take corners and the power that the car does have for its engine size.

I've been driving the xB for a month now and continue to be very pleased with the purchase. As advertised, it's great for urban driving conditions, schlepping people and gear, and climbing hills--all while sipping fuel. It drives tight on dry roads...a little less so on snow/ice but still very acceptable for a non-4X4. Acceleration and cruising speeds are more than adequate for normal day-to-day sub/urban driving. Due to high revs over 75 mph, I would not recommend the xB to Montana drivers (they wouldn't give up their P/Us anyway).

I've had the xB for 3 months now and I've loved every moment of it. When I first saw the xB on TV I wanted one and the car is everything I expected and more. It turns heads, has an impressive sound system, has great fuel economy, and tons of room for people or stuff. My only complaint is the turning radius is rather large for a small car oh and the small minded people who insist on telling me that it is ugly because it dosen't look like everything else on the road. I strongly reccomend this car to anyone.

i really like this car, mostly for its height. getting out i only need to swivil and stand up. i bought it used, i think the previous owner beat it up. its new to me but i just tested the mileage andonly got 26mph, very disappointing, will try to find out why. my criticisms are 1. the only headlight is inadaquite, should have one over the front. 2. needs alot of rm. to park if you need to open the back,3. a little too noisy, and i bought it with a cracked windshield. didnt know it was a cronic problem. but i love how much you can see, lots of window space. also all the little spaces to hold things, fall all over the place. not deep enough. i love toyot, cant imagine driving any thing el

Like everyone else before I owned my xB I used to say, "that has got to be the ugliest car on the road." But then when I came into the market to purchase a vehicle the more the xB grew on me. One test drive is all it took! I was amazed at how much room there was on the inside of the car, I'm a DJ so I need space to haul my equipment around. Another thing that impressed me was the low end pick up of the 1.5L. I have a 5-speed manual and have no problem leaving people at stoplights to make quick lane changes when needed. All in all, I'm definitely glad I bought the xB it's definitely a "Box full of fun".

This is my second Scion XB. The first one, a 2004 w/ XM sattellite radio, I bought new. Had it for a 2 years. I was rear-ended twice, then the third time I was rear-ended by a full size Chevy cargo van going 45 mph. The car gave its life so I might live. It was totalled, I walked away. So, I got another one, this time a 2006. These cars do not go accelerate fast with the a.c. on going up a mountain, but the $30.00 to fill up the tank is the payback. I get around 37 mpg up here in the mountains of New Mexico. It goes in the snow, but deep snow would be a problem. Maintenance is easy, you can do it yourself, but changing the belts is a little tight, you need to jack the car up.

I had a 2005 xB - it was a very fun car to drive. My only complaint was with the small engine. It accelerated fine - but revs at 4,000 - 5,000 RPM when doing 75 - 80 mph on the freeway. My wife and two children were in this car when they were hit from behind at about 50 mph on the freeway. The xB spun them sevral times without tipping and no major injuries. It surprisingly held up very well considering. I would buy another one, but I am going to wait till a larger engine is offered - the 2.2 would be nice.

There's no denying it. This thing is cool. There is so much you can do to it. I put on Momo rims, a new steering wheel, a different shifter, improved seats, everything Momo, and it looks SWEET. This makes an awesome dub car. Plus, I put a few goodies under the hood, so now it has about 224 hp. I'm not trading this baby for anything

I love this vehicle! I had a Jeep before this and loved it for 230,000 miles. I was looking at the Toyota Tacoma when I spotted the xB. I had thought that they were the ugliest thing on the road but when I looked inside I couldn't believe how BIG it was. Then I took it for a test drive and bought it immediately. After three months I still smile when I see it in the driveway (it's sooo cute). The gas mileage isn't quite what they claim but I usually get about 27 mpg, only got 30 once. I love that when two xBs pass each other on the road the owners always wave or give the thumbs up, it's like we are very special vehicle owners.

Did research on the xB, took a test drive and fell in love. Tons of room and attention-getting good looks! It's not just for the young people. I'm 41 and I love it. The kids think it's cool too.

I've had this car for 4 months now and absolutely love it. I'm 57 years old and have relatives in their 70s that have no problem getting in and out. One of my sons is 6'7" and can sit in the back seat without his knees touching the front seat even when it's completely extended. Nobodys' head touches the ceiling. It's amazing how much stuff I can haul from the building supply stores. In town I'm getting a little over 29 mpg. On my last trip, one tankful that was soley freeway driving got 36.9 mpg. The ride is a little stiff but it corners like a sportscar. I love this car!

I have almost 5,000 miles on my 2006 XB. So far the windshield wiper rubber part came off of the metal causing theit to stick up and scrape the paint off my car. It is now rusting. The windshield is so straight that rocks chip it VERY easy (4 times already)! I need a new one. The radio sounds horrible and when I turn volume up. When I turn sharp corners the radio station changes. I've lived at beach for years never had problems with door parts getting bent due to the wind!! A "little" peice of metal is bent and I have to slam door shut to close it and now the window only rolls down 3 inches! Also the interior lighting is bad. Its seats are VERY uncomfortable. And it drives like a go cart. If you are used to small cars this wont be a problem for you.

My Release 2.0 Scion xB is the 3rd xB I've purchased. My xB black box was one of the first California xB's released in June 2003 (people stopped me on the road to look at it). Then I purchased a Hot Lava release 1.0 for my wife. Then I got the yellow one for an upgrade. All total of about 70,000 trouble free xB miles! No other car does what the xB does. It provides lots of space, gets great gas mileage, is extrenely reliable and fun to drive. It's even more fun to see the looks on the face of SUV owners see me fill up with 9.8 gallons.

The Scion xB has great interior space for a tall man and it is as reliable as a Toyota, of course. My only wish is for a bit more sound-deadening of the interior and a bit more comfort (brighter interior dome light, softer seating, etc.) - perhaps there should be a Lexus xB?

I really love my xB. I bought it as a run around town grocery getter for my wife but it has become our favorite car! If you have read the reviews about noise and comfort being a problem don't believe them. I regularly cruse at 80 MPH on the highway in total comfort! Just for the record, I'm 6'3" and 240 lbs. I drive 35 miles one way to work on I-95 in South Florida. Get cruse control if you drive long distances. I also like the ride better with the 15" rims and tires over the 17" or 18". I have the 7 spoke alloys from Enkei. They look awesome!

To review this car, you must put things in perspective. This is a $15,000 car and not a luxury car. My scores are based upon this. It is pretty roomy and comfortable, gets good mileage if driven sensibly, has stylish looks, Toyota quality (hopefully), and sufficient performance, etc... Are you going to blow anybody off of the road? No, but don't buy this car for that reason. This is reliable transportation with pretty good gas mileage, that is funky, stylish, and fun to drive. That said, I think that this is one of the best auto buys out there. If the auto makers get serious about small cars and mileage in this country, then there might be some competition, but until then; Scion seems to top the list.

Lovin' My Scion

My qualifications for picking a new car were simple, low ownership cost and big space. At 6'3", 300+ pounds, this eliminated a lot of the under 20 grand cars out there. It boiled down to the Chevy HHR, Chevy Aveo, Pontiac Aztec, Mazda3, and the xB. The xB was the last one I test drove and I immediately fell in love with it. There is an insane amount of room (even for me). The price is fantastic, and when you figure in the low insurance costs and great gas mileage, it gets even better. Not to mention I LOVE the no haggling pricing system. I got mine nicely equipped (even got the blue lights....ooh pretty) for around $18,000 out the door. Hands down this is the best car for the money!

Small Outside, Huge Inside

This car is awesome. I need a roomy, comfortable car for my business and was originally planning to buy a Lincoln to replace my aging Ford van. I test drove the Scion xB on a whim, and completely fell in love with it. I found that it has more head and leg room, front and back, than the Lincoln I took for a spin, and it's a lot more fun to drive. My customers love riding in it...no matter how big they are, they have plenty of room to stretch out. I don't get very good gas mileage because of the type of driving I have to do at work and the way I drive, and I'm in South Florida so my A/C is always on. I can only imagine how much more gas I'd be burning if I'd bought that Lincoln.

New Surprises Every Day

This car is a bargain for the price. It has many standard features and the one I purchased (thankfully) had factory cruise and arm rest (definite necessities). I bought this solely as a commuter car that is also spacious enough to get kids in and out of the car seats. There is ample room for both driver and passengers. I can average 32 mpg without a lead foot and do a lot of gliding to stops and about 28 mpg if at full throttle all the time. This doubles the gas mileage compared to my previous truck. The handling is superb and unfortunately you would expect it matched with a much peppier engine. But a larger engine would kill the gas mimleage, so that's an expected trade off.

As my grand-daughter calls my xB, a pip squeak, it goes good the motor won't snap a bean or neck, but the xB turns heads. Plenty of room for 4 big men and I get, with the modifications I've done, 41 mpg in town. I've got a bad back therefore I installed a drivers and passenger racing seats. Plenty of glass with excellent sight lines. I installed p215x60x15 tires because the automatic transmission needs another gear. But my toaster on wheels is GREAT!

I looked at Honda, Hyundai and Toyota cars and suv's and the xb won hands down. My local dealers didn't have any in stock so I found mine at seeger Toyota in St. Louis, mo. I flew in and my salesman even picked me up at the airport and was truly a great guy that had my xb washed and full of fuel. I am in my 50s and own and drive street rods and race cars I still have a blast driving my little"xbox" I also get a chuckle out of the other old guys that don't get it.

At first I thought the 11 gallon gas tank would be too small, but I still get over 300 miles per tank. It's comfortable and I love driving it. When the salesman suggested it to me I said I would never buy that car, then I drove it, I am very glad I did.

Better than a Prius

First, I have read several of the reviews complaining about fuel economy. This car is _not_ a Corvette. If you drive it like some kind of sports car with jackrabit starts and irregular and harsh acceleration you will get trashy fuel mileage. I am enjoying a 37 MPG car with my daily 15 mile trips to and from work. I fully expect that number to reach 40 MPG on the highway. For the cost of the car, expected lifespan, and the potential good mileage this is a strong alternative to the Prius Hybrid. IMHO, I think the Scion xB may prove to be more economal than the Prius given the complexity and exotic parts required for the Prius.
