Despite the courtesy of Saturns' sale staff and large rebates, the ION 3 sedan has proved the worst car I've ever owned. Full of rattles and squeaks, poor fitting trim, a jerky transmission, and harsh ride over small bumps, the final insult are service departments that, while polite, damage the car while fixing it (wrecking trim or leaving grease and oil behind) or leave parts off. My last two Toyotas together had a third of the problems this car has. Bob Lutz, stop talking about sport cars and get GM build quality past Yugo class!

Bought w/ Salvage title - Great Car!

I traded in my big SUV for this little thing 4 years ago. It had a rebuilt salvage title (flipped over in accident) and 75k miles. I'm up to 120k and we still love it. 30+ mpg and minimal repairs. The only things we've had to do are: keep relays on hand for when the electrical steering goes out. At first this was a monthly occurrence, it has been 2 years since we've had to replace them. We did struts and brakes at 110k. A fuse for the cigarette lighter. Then of course the normal things, battery, oil changes, spark plugs, etc. We plan to drive this car until our family doesn't fit!

Sleek look, poor transmission!

I bought this car after driving my 1997 SC-1 for 3 years. Definitely against my better judgment because I had to have the engine replaced and major transmission work done. But the Ion QC was a sharp-looking car, and I could explain away the problems I had with my SC-1 (don't know what the previous owner did to it, and the reverse slam tranny problem was a common one). The VTi transmission failed on me not onces, not twice, but three times. We're finally getting Saturn to buy it back. We bought a Toyota Camry! If you're going to buy a 2004 QC, at least get a manual.

I am shocked that I do not see the Saturn ION on more "best lists". It is wonderful to drive, inexpensive, reliable, and my quad coupe ALWAYS receives comments on the streets for its design and looks.
