Porsche's Macan is one of the most fun-to-drive SUVs around at any price point thanks to its sharp handling and quick acceleration. If you want to drive a utility vehicle that doesn't feel like one, the Macan is here for you. And what if you also want an electric vehicle? Well, Porsche will have you covered too. The all-new Porsche Macan EV debuts for the 2024 model year and arrives at dealers in the summer of 2024. It will be sold alongside the regular Macan.
Estimated EV RangeThis vehicle’s electric range, which is how many miles it can drive on a single battery charge, has not been verified by the EPA. The estimate shown here is based on non-EPA sources.
EV batteries lose 1-2% of range per year. Est. range for this car is 245 miles after 8 years.Electric cars typically experience 1-2% of range loss per year with slightly faster degradation over the first 50,000 miles as the car settles into its long term state, according to Recurrent's study of 15,000 EVs.

Edmunds spotlight: What you need to know about the Macan EV
To start, know that it's going to be a little confusing. The electric version of the Macan is an entirely different vehicle, even though it shares the same name and has similar styling. In addition to its EV powertrain, it has a different chassis, a larger interior and upgraded technology features. There will simply be two new trim levels that will be electric: the Macan 4 and the Macan Turbo. They both have dual electric motors, all-wheel drive and a pretty big battery pack with 100 kWh of capacity. The main difference between these two is power: The Macan 4 will make 382 horsepower and the Macan Turbo will crank out an eye-opening 576 hp. Our rating below is for the gas versions of the Macan, but know that the electric versions do basically everything better (except for making noise). They handle with greater precision, accelerate quicker, fit more people and things, and even have a better infotainment system. Check out our in-depth Porsche Macan EV article to learn even more.
Competitors to consider
There aren't many straightforward rivals to the Macan, as its price point puts it up against larger and more comfortable competition. But that points to the trade-offs of opting for this Porsche: You're forgoing some utility for fun behind the wheel. The BMW X3, Genesis GV70 and Mercedes-Benz GLC all offer more interior space and greater comfort, especially in the back seat, where the Macan gets a bit claustrophobic. For the electric versions, they will compete against the Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV and the Genesis GV60. To find out more about the Macan, read our test team's in-depth Expert Rating below.
The Edmunds Vehicle Testing Team evaluates a fresh batch of vehicles every week, pairing objective assessments at our test track with real-world driving on city streets, freeways and winding roads. The data we gather results in our Expert Ratings. They’re based on 30-plus scores that cover every aspect of the automotive experience.

The 2024 Porsche Macan Electric offers the performance and confidence you'd expect from a Porsche while boasting high levels of comfort and electrical efficiency. Like all Porsches, the Macan EV costs more than its competition. But once you spend a few hours behind the wheel, you'll realize that electric SUVs like this one are few and far between.
How does the Macan Electric drive? We tested a Macan 4. At our test track, it sprinted from 0 to 60 mph in 4.8 seconds. That is certainly quick, though you might be disappointed to learn that your friend with a Tesla Model Y Long Range will be able to keep up with you. Should you want to go faster, Porsche offers the Macan in more powerful (and more expensive) versions.
While the Macan 4 trails most of its rivals in outright performance, it's still pleasing to drive. It grips well around town and has strong and smooth brakes. Just know that unlike most other EVs, the Macan EV doesn't have full one-pedal driving, which is where you lift off the accelerator pedal and regenerative braking engages to slow you down and even bring you to a stop without ever touching the brake pedal. Many drivers find it convenient, but Porsche prefers that you use the brake pedal to effectively slow and stop the car.
Comfort
8.5/10
How comfortable is the Macan Electric? The Macan EV offers all-day comfort on all manner of roads. It simply glides down highways yet returns just enough road feel to keep you connected. Adding to the comfort level is the overall quietness of the interior. Our test car was equipped with the optional insulated glass, and we think it's a worthwhile and affordable option.
The Macan's climate control is a little less convoluted to use than the systems in other Porsches, thanks to manually (not digitally) adjustable vents. The rest of the controls are fairly similar and straightforward. Our test vehicle had four-zone climate control, which includes the ability for the driver to shut off every other zone to maximize efficiency.
Interior
8/10
How’s the interior? Buyers used to a modern Porsche will feel right at home inside the Macan Electric. The infotainment screen is more logical and easier to use than in previous Macans and will likely impress buyers new to the brand. Drivers of almost any body size should be able to find their ideal driving position thanks to plenty of adjustability with the driver's seat and steering wheel.
The Macan's sensible ride height and wide door openings make it easy to step inside. Front passengers have ample room, but rear passengers might feel a bit tight, especially behind a taller driver. The rear seat cushions are low, which can make it feel like you're sunk behind those sitting in the front seats.

How’s the tech? The Macan EV uses Porsche's most up-to-date interface. The navigation system works great and it's cool how you can project directions through the available head-up display. You can also integrate your smartphone wirelessly through Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. From wireless charging to four USB-C ports, there are ample charging opportunities.
The advanced driver aids are more of a letdown. We found the adaptive cruise control to be the best feature in our testing. It maintained a proper following distance from the vehicle ahead and was quick to speed up when needed. But the front collision warning was far too easily triggered by parked cars on the side of the road. In these instances, the brakes were applied quite firmly, which took us, as well as other drivers, by surprise. Another knock against the driver aids is that many of the systems available on the Macan Electric as options are standard on its competitors.
Storage
7.5/10
How’s the storage? With 19.1 cubic feet available under its hatch and an additional 3 cubes in reserve in the frunk, the Macan Electric has space for most of your day-to-day hauling. But when compared to rivals like Tesla's Model Y, the Genesis GV70 Electrified and the Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV, the Macan comes up a little short in overall capacity.
Interior storage is plentiful, although not much of it can be concealed from prying eyes. Door pockets are big enough for most drinks, and even backseat passengers will have some space for personal items.
How economical is the Macan Electric? We drove a Macan 4 fitted with 21-inch wheels. The EPA estimates this version has a range of 308 miles on a full charge. On our independent Edmunds EV Range Test, our test vehicle achieved a range of 351.7 miles. That's an impressive showing for an SUV, especially one with all-wheel drive. It's also pretty efficient. The EPA estimates a Macan 4 will use 34 kWh of electricity for every 100 miles of driving. We measured an even better 29 kWh/100 miles on our test route.
Quick charging speed is another Macan advantage. It can replenish its battery at up to 270 kW at an appropriate fast-charging station under ideal conditions. When charging at that rate, the Macan's battery can go from 10% to 80% in just 21 minutes. Road-tripping a Macan EV should be pretty easy thanks to its long range and quick charging.
Value
7.5/10
Is the Macan Electric a good value? The Macan 4 we tested had an as-new starting price of roughly $80,000. With options, it was almost $100,000. While Porsche does give the buyer a lot of flexibility in choosing personalization options, there's no getting around the Macan's elevated price tag. At least the Macan backs up that price tag with excellent levels of fit and finish, both inside and out.
Warranty coverage is standard for a luxury brand, with four years/50,000 miles of coverage for bumper to bumper and eight years/100,000 miles for the battery. Porsche includes four years/50,000 miles of roadside assistance as well as a year of complimentary 30-minute charging sessions at Electrify America stations.
Wildcard
8.5/10
The Macan EV inspires confidence in its driver for everyday situations as well as fun ones. Handling is crisp and intuitive and is balanced by just the right amount of power and traction to deliver genuine exhilaration. Its compact size, supple ride quality, and excellent range and efficiency numbers are only icing on the cake.
Yes, it is expensive, but this isn't a new thing for Porsches. Part of that expense comes from the ability to fully customize the Macan Electric and part of it comes down to just how well-rounded this electric SUV really is. While Porschephiles might balk at yet another SUV, and an electric one at that, the Macan Electric is plenty good enough to attract new buyers as well as win over some of the brand's faithful yet stubborn loyalists.
Which Macan does Edmunds recommend?
We recommend the Macan 4 and its combination of performance, personalization and value relative to the Turbo version. It also comes well equipped with technology and driver assist features so there's little reason to go crazy with options. Unless you have the budget for it, of course.
These Are the Things We Hate About the Cars in Our One-Year Road Test Fleet
Here at Edmunds, we test cars every single day. But each year, we gather a fleet of vehicles for One-Year Road Tests, during which we pile on the miles and find out what each car, truck or SUV is like to live with on a daily basis. Throughout the year, it becomes clear what’s great and what’s, well, not so great. In this video, Edmunds’ Casey Goode focuses on the latter,… both in regard to specific vehicles in our fleet as well as trends they represent across the industry.
The BMW X3 lacks the Macan's sport credentials, though the M Competition versions make a noble attempt, but offers a larger cabin and more space for cargo. It also starts at a much lower price point, so if your considerations are more practical, the X3 makes a good alternative. (And the X4 splits the difference between these two stylistically.) But for driving satisfaction, the Macan takes the cake here. If you'd like to learn more about what it's like to live with this BMW, read Edmunds' long-term road test of the 2022 X3.
The GLC is the most analogous of Mercedes' SUVs to the Macan in size and price, coming with superior in-cabin technology and better value. Its back seat will be more family-friendly than the Macan's tight confines, and the GLC offers a smoother ride as well. Where the Macan strikes back, once again, is from behind the wheel. It offers a level of performance and driver enjoyment the Mercedes cannot compete with.
The Genesis GV70 offers a formidable combination of value, driving dynamics and luxury materials. There are also turbocharged four- and six-cylinder engines, just like the Macan, in an ultra-stylish package that looks fresh and fancy at the same time. Compared to the Genesis, the Macan is still the driver's choice — the GV70 can't quite match its handling prowess and sporty nature.
