Not the whole package
This is a well designed vehicle from a comfort standpoint, but one with engineering design and manufacturing flaws that are exasperating. We had to replace our transmission at about 40,000 miles. This has been a common problem that Chrysler has never seemed to fix. The paint peeled off of the roof really early. Goop (too much sealant) ran from the windows. Clothes hooks broke, the tape player broke; the front speakers need to be replaced. The remote entry devices in the door broke. On and on. It made me worry for Detroit's future against foreign competitors.
Bad Transmissions
Currently at 106,000 miles. Had to replace transmission at 100,000. This is the second Voyager I have owned, had to replace the transmission on both. Other repairs normal for it's age. When working, I like vehicle, just can't deal with the transmission problems anymore.
Mountain Climber
This is the second AWD Plymouth Minivan that I"ve owned. The previous one a1991. It is too bad that Chrysler is no longer making AWD available on the 2005 models. These are excellent all weather vehicles and by far more useful than any SUV out there. I'm surprised the automotive press did not heap more praise on these totally capable vehicles. Besides the typical belts and hoses I've had 50,000 miles of trouble free use and now have 158,000 miles on it. It will still make someone a good winter car as I'm replacing it with a'97 Town & Country LXI AWD with less miles. The major design flaw was the rear heater tubes that rust out. I replaced them twice.
Like the Energizer bunny!
This van has 179K miles on it and is still going. We've done expected repairs and replacements on it, nothing too extensive (rebuilt transmission right after purchase, that was the most expensive). Way more comfortable than new minivans we've rented to take a couple of trips. Heater never has worked well, which is a pain if you're driving in winter at night (takes 30 minutes to warm up!). A/C only blows from the dash, so back of car can get pretty warm in summer. We will drive this until it DIES.
ugg trans
Problems with trans at 130,000. If your not looking to put alot of money into this van look else where. Trans is almost a definite future repair. Not bad on pickup for a van though.
My Car
My v6 Voyager has 90,000+ and is the most reliable auto I've owned. I love all the travel accessories and the ride is excellent. Gas mileage is not as good as I would have liked but not bad either. Only complaint is it seems to go thru tires quickly. No repairs just maintance items so far.
Solid overall performer
Bought this van new and it had it's share of problems, but most of them happened within the 70K mile warranty period. Tranny failed at 45K, but rebuilt has been great since. Since the warranty ran out, the van has been great! It's very nice to drive especially on trips/vacations. It's a pleasure on the highway and gets better mileage as it gets older. Performance is excellent for only 162 hp. Lots of low end power. I now have 134K miles on it and the engine stil purrs. The 3.3 liter engine is a sound engine. I wish I would have gotten the captains chairs. The center bench is not very comfortable and does not have head rests. Overall, I have been very pleased with this vehicle.
Still running at a quarter of a million
We've put 200 of the 250k miles on this van and we have no complaints. The engine is the 3.8 liter, and it's plenty powerful. The transmission lasted us 200k, a/c needed work, but what do you expect with that much use? It's with reluctance we plan to get a new (used) van, probably my daughter's Mazda MPV. This is without a doubt the most faithful van my wife has ever driven. She loves it, and trusts it. It has all the bells & whistles, and they still work. It's just getting old, and things are wearing out. Radiator this week, who knows what next? This van will go down in our family hall of fame as a great vehicle!
Best van ever!!
A truly remarkable vehicle. I have owned it since new and driven it over 167,000 miles. Only minimal routine maintenance has been required. Almost all parts remain original and still in good working order. Equiped with 3.3 engine and 4 speed automatic transmission. Cost of ownership over eight years could only be lower if you used a bicycle!
Beware any over 135kmi
I purchased this vehicle to use as a daily driver. After 50kmi/1 yr 4 mo. the engine has been very reliable and strong. I do have to add though that every front end component started failing at 140kmi. This is very expensive at about $300/month for the past 6 months. Also be warned I have a transmission cooler as well as regular services and the transmission just let go @ 157kmi with NO WARNING SIGNS!
jusJUST KEEPS ON GOING
I bought this van used with 100,000 miles. It know has 191,000. Yes, I have replaces the norm tires, struts shocks bearings, breakes, rotors, tie rods, even the front anti sway bar snapped. I have also replaced the starter and most of the a/c componants. The van still has a ok apperance (some rust)But heck I put on 35,000 a year. I only paid $4,200 and have invested $1,800 in keeping it safely mechanicly sound. The only thing I dont like is the 3.3 engine & trany leak. But with 191,000 its cheaper to pour than to repair. I toe a 3300lb boat and snowmobile. it does all I need. This is my third chrysler mini van. And yes I would buy a 4th.
Best vehicle I had in 10 years!
It was bought brand new by my grand parents in 1994 and I was in 9th grade and was with them when they decided to buy the vehicle. My granny passed away in 2003 and in her will it was said to be mine once she passed away. My papa decided to keep it a few more years for my disabled aunt until he could get him a new truck and I got the office job and I got the office job in 2008 and he then gave it to me cause he bought his new truck and didnt need the van anymore. So I can say that since 2008 I have had many good years out of it camping, and just got me to places I needed to get too. It was apart of our family for 25 years and I had it only 10 out of the 25 years. Well last year I needed some major work done to it on the engine and I knew it would not be longer I would have to junk him but I got the parts needed (cylinder heads and gaskets, oil filer and oil. Found a mechanic and he did the repairs it ran for maybe 3 months and then it started making a loud tapping and knocking noice after I got gas in it. Now on the way to get gas it was fine it was on the way back home it started making the loud noices I was like this aint good and I knew this was it my van named Charlie (my granny named all her cars btw) and I kept it named was going to be parting ways from me. I had my brother in law who works on cars say it might be a rod I blew or something in the engine he was not sure. So I called my friends mechanic who works for the Dodge dealership and he came by and started the van and heard the noice and said yep it was a rod either lose or bent so I started crying cause I liked the van it was apart of my life and family and I vae tried so hard to keep it running but could not keep up with those kind of repairs so he told me I hate to tell you this but it is time to junk the van it will cost more than it is worth now which was not but 1000.00 or under. So I called last Friday and trying not to cry on the phone I contacted a junk yard who got me a free tow for my van and sold it to them for 120.00 the tow man came and put it on the dolley tow and that is when I cried more as it pulled away. I got to start Charlie one last time and while cleaning him out (my belongings) I was crying and I hugged the steering wheel and said goodbye to my friend and buddy Charlie and said this is it Charlie we wont see each other anymore and I hate to do this but I cant afford your repairs anymore and kissed my hand and put it on the windshield and said goodbye again rolled up all the windows and locked him up. The tow guy said get back in your van and start him up and drive it around the parking lt one more last time and so I did and drove slow around the parking lot and got the wheels lined up to the dolley tow and turned him off and said goodbye again got out and signed the papers and gave the tow guy the title and keys that was another hard part. He got the van on the doley tow and tightened the front wheels and got in his truck and drove off. All I could hear in my head was "Charlie" saying Steven dont do this to me. You need me and I need you." I know I sound weird but when something as good as this mini-van was and a huge part of the family for 25 years yea it grows on you like a animal that you have to put down and don't want too. I have since gotten a new car a 2002 Honda Accord and it is a new chapter in my life and it was my sister and husbands car and I gave them the money from the sell of "Charlie" and they gave me their car the Honda Accord as a Christmas and Birthday gift. I will not name this car Charlie cause no other car can replace Charlie. So if you are looking for a good family mini-van I really recommend buying the Plymouth Grand Voyager SE. Charlie passed away just before Christmas last year at 157K miles on him. Thanks for the wonderful memories Charlie you were a great van. You got me places and you will be very much missed. I still miss you from time to time when I see another mini van like you I just cry and think of all the great times we had. Now you get to help somebody else that needs the good parts for their mini van. Time to pass it forward Charlie. RIP buddy. Your former owner; Steven G. Reynolds

Great Family Car
The Plymouth Voyager is a well built reliable vehicle. I have enjoyed using it as a family vehicle, but it is also versatile as a vehicle for hauling materials for home improvement projects and for moving my daughter to and from college. The seats come out relatively easy revealing a huge cargo area. The third row seat is pretty large, but it is managable.
great van
I bought this van three years ago, and I've only had to perform routine maintanence on it.
93 Grand SE
We bought this vehicle from our mechanic. My only concern was the possible transmisson problems that had plauged these vans. He assured me that he had gone through the van stem to stern. We have put 15000 mile on it in 9 months, and have only replaced two tires, front brakes and recharged the A/C! I am very impressed, and will own more Chrysler products.
Old mini
Funny, when I read some reviews of 94 Grand Voyager many have transmissiom problems at around 45k to 60k's miles. I do not have any problem with my transmission yet, right now it has 202,000 original miles on it! Its still going strong!
1995 Voyager LE Extended
My 1995 Plymouth Voyager has been exceptionally reliable. With 130,000 miles, it has run smoothly with no engine or mechanical problems. The only time it requires a mechanic is for the routine maintenance. It has carried soccer teams, moved my mother's antiques, and managed anything else required of it. I really appreciate how comfortable it is to drive after 10 hours behind the wheel. It is also my third Chrysler mini-van and all have performed to 120K+ with reliability.
stay away from
BOUGHT 3 YEARS AGO @ 45000 MILES, USED UP TWO TRANSMISSIONS , TWO ENGINES ,AND LOTS OF ROAD CALLS AT NIGHT BECAUSE IT BROKE DOWN.IAM A MECHANIC AND THIS CAR IS JUNK.i WILL NEVER BUY I PLYMOUTH OR DODGE PRODUCT AGAIN.
Mechanics dream ... my nightmare
I have owned many older vehicles and this is by far the worst! Engine failure, unfixable ABS by Chrysler, abysmal mileage, transmission noise ( on @nd tramsmission ) and other issues. I do not trust this van for any trip over 30 km ( 20 miles ).
Good for what it is
We use our Voyager as our (non-sport) utility vehicle. It is great for hauling antiques, yard "stuff," home improvement materials, and hauling donations to goodwill. We had a new trans put it (by the deealer for free) when we bought it and the engine-tranny has been just fine. Compared to Lexus- Honda-Toyota, reliability is not so good but acceptable. Very comfortable seating with the 4 captains chairs and I enjoy all the doo-dah gauges.
92 Plymouth Grand Voyager
Van has been very dependable; repairs have been few; most expensive was replacement of intank fuel pump $525; Little disappointed in fuel mileage ~ 20MPG on road; ~17 town. White paint beginning to peel at roof area. No oil consumption at 200,000 miles (oil & Filter changes regular at 3-5,000 miles. Very pleased with vehicle!
Good for the long haul
I've owned this car for 11 years and it has been a long solid vehicle that has not required very much maintenance. The transmission went but luckily before the warranty ended. A/C went after 8 years. The van keeps on running year after year. Great space inside. Smooth drive and powerful engine.
Awesome Investment: 200,000 Miles in 7 years!
We purchased van this as a replacement for a 3 month old Mercury Villager that we HATED and had bought new. After over nearly 230,000 miles (it had around 68,000 when we bought it), we have only replaced the water pump, brakes, hoses, tailpipe, and one transmission. Regular maintenance and fluid changes have kept this baby humming. It still actually looks pretty good considering its age and mileage. It has no broken door locks, knobs, etc. like you get on a lot of old cars. It cleans up nicely.
Old but still kickin'
I purchased this van from a family member and had it shipped via rail across the country. It already had a rebuilt tranny, I just recently replaced it. (thus making it the 3rd including the original) Rides like new, drives like new, looks like new too! (except for the peeling paint on the roof...) All accessories function great, never needed any major repairs. (other than trannys) Will soon need new suspension (replacing original), new brakes (3 yrs. old), new computer (shifting issues with the new rebuilt)
Mixed bag
135000 miles, just replaced starter, tranny went out at 100,000 ($1500), coolant lines to rear heater corroded out at 90,000. Annoying slight vibration that has been inherent since I bought it used with 30K.
Not Bad
My Plymouth Grand Voyager is totally fine for what it is. Mine is a 1995 model, but you would never know it don't know what year it was bought because I beat the heck out of it every day and it seems to run just fine. The only things that had to be replaced are the front when there was an accident and the brakes...the fuel pump is whining now but hey for 132,000 miles that isn't bad and it is quite powerful when you floor it for a mini-van! Oh did remember that the air conditioning was a little bad but got it replaced pretty much for free and the gas gauge is broken...they want $400 for a gas gauge...forget that just remember its little over 210 miles for a full tank.
1995 Plymouth Voyager SE AWD
I am the original owner . Bought the extended Warranty. Had some transmission leaks that required that the trans be replaced a few time under the warranty. The AWD Power transfer unit was replaced 6 time under warranty. Last time at 98k. No trouble since. Other repairs were typical for a car with over 100k miles .Now car has 132k and running fine. No further problems. Went to the movies a few years ago, was forced by daughter to take an addional 11 riends for a total of 13.
