Nissan Versa SL
Bought a Nissan Versa SL. The cabin has more than enough space for four passengers, as well as providing comfortable seats. The interior is completely made of hard plastic, make sure your foot doesn't hit the door on the way out. The 1.6L engine is adequate around town and really does sip gas. On the highway, there's tons of wind noise, and the CVT, while providing smooth acceleration and excellent fuel economy, can be heard at any speed. Don't be fooled by the 109 hp rating, the car has more than enough get up and go. Excellent visibility all-around, smooth ride.
Great Little Car
At 72 I've driven most car brands since getting my license at 16 -- and this Versa is right at the top for value. Not doing rabbit starts or slamming on the brakes lets me get 40-43 MPG. It is not as luxurious as my old Mercedes -- but adequate and comfortable. I am the original owner and have 68,500 miles on my Versa; and have had zero mechanical problems. I bought a basic maintenance plan (and have a lifetime power-train warranty), but have only changed a set of tires, wiper blades, & front brake pads -- nothing else except fluid(s) and filter(s) changes. The car has all the options except heated seats and navigation. (Google maps is a lot cheaper.) This should be my last car until I'm buried, and that's just perfect for me! UPDATE: 10,000 more miles since my last update and still very happy! UPDATE: Over 100,000 miles now and still very happy! My mechanic says that I'll start to do more serious maintenance around 120,000 miles -- normal wear and tear. I'll install my third set of tires in a few months. It's a great car and I'm still planning on keeping it a long time! UPDATE: still running great. Finally had to change the spark plugs. Just had my 7 year checkup to keep my lifetime powertrain warranty current (never had to use it yet), but haven't had to put on the second set of tires yet. I'll update again later. UPDATE: 111K now, installed new tires, and the Versa just keeps rolling along. Still have zero major (or minor) problems. My basic maintenance plan keeps me regular with oil changes & checkups (3,500 miles/ 3 months). Mileage still over 40 mpg. I enjoy inexpensive & reliable travel -- and intend on keeping it so! UPDATE: Now over 120K and still going strong. Time for my second 60K mile CVT tuneup -- no problems there. Have zero to complain about yet. GREAT car! UPDATE: 138K now and everything is still running great. Changed brake pads, rotate the tires regularly. Mileage still 40+, which is fabulous for over $4 gasoline. It's still a winner! UPDATE: 150K now and still could not be happier. Faithfully doing the regular scheduled maintenance does the job -- both for the Versa and this 77 year old guy!

this car handles well and it commutes well
I bought this car brand new on January 2014 during a snowy day in IL. Unfortunately I ended paying over two grand over what i should originally pay for it. However, I frequently brought the car the dealership and received honest and fair service at the right intervals. The car has been through only recall for the instrument panel console trim that got your foot stuck in the accelerator but it got fixed promptly with no issues (I suspected about this issue even before it made it to a full recall and Nissan contacted me right away about the issue. Unfortunately, I lived in a very crowded area and my vehicle got hit and scratched in the rear bumper and side front panel and of course that is not a cheap fix and noticed that they could do a better job in the quality of the paint. I was also satisfied with the ability of commuting in a crowded area with ease. I was able to zoom through traffic, go through snow, rain, ice with no hesitations on handling or riding quality. I was a bit dissatisfied with the handling/steering abilities in the highway and I suspected I needed to replace the stock tires which I did and I couldn't regret about that. I even had to drive cross country from IL to TX across different states including Iowa, Kansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, etc. and i was never afraid to drive 1700 miles on this vehicle. I had to admit that winds create unsafe conditions in vehicles like this one, but you also need to remember that any vehicle can experience issues when is windy but it took me time to get used to the handling/steering styles that this vehicle had. Not only I was able to drive many miles on stock brakes, but I now have almost 15,000 miles on it and I haven't had to replace any major parts yet other than oil change, air filter and one new tire again ( got a flat on Texas but that was out of my control). I must say that even so the tire was busted, I was able to ride safely because the TPMS tire pressure sensor saved my life. I kept on filling up the air until I brought it to Costco and had to put the spare tire and got it replaced under warranty. Please, do your research when you go to a Nissan Dealership. I got the worst experience in one of them and find out which are the ones with better reputation. I opted to do oil changes elsewhere but I am also doing every tune up at recommended intervals. I do highway driving all the time and very little city driving since I live in the suburbs. I must say that what other people are saying about acceleration is not correct. If you have a tendency to floor the gas pedal on a car so you can drive faster, then this is not your vehicle. This car WILL accelerate as any other vehicle if you DON'T smash the gas pedal. The CVT transmission requires you to gradually step on the gas pedal and I have to say that I can confidently pass other vehicles with ease that are not necessarily the same size of this car. The steering over 85 mph or even 90 mph requires you to have attention on the wheel (I don't text, do phone calls, etc only using wireless technologies). This car can drive those speeds with ease and it can also switch between 6 lanes of traffic with ease. Also, I personally don't like lane change assistance, cameras, etc. I have to admit this car has blind spots but you can buy little mirrors at the automotive stores and attached them over the regular review mirrors. That solved the issue but of course you also need to look out in the lanes next to you before you merge. I also feel confident when I am braking, because this vehicle can brake at higher speeds without feeling that I am going to loose control. Other vehicles had cut me off on the highway and I have been able to drive safely even on ramps or quick lane changes. I am very happy with the gas mileage on this vehicle. My daily commute is about 32 miles every day and I am averaging almost 35 MPG but please keep in mind that rush hour highway driving has way too much traffic at times. I only spend roughly 5 gallons per week to go to work. Yes, this car has flaws in the paint quality, overall trim panels, interiors, etc. This car has very good sound (mine has the premium option) as well as blue-tooth which is a must in Texas highways. This car has a good instrument layout and all the controls are located where they need to be. I am 6 feet tall and I can comfortably ride this vehicle (even during the cross country driving I was able to drive this vehicle for 19 hours non-stop without issues. In Texas, I drove excessively in the highway and wad able to get 46 mpg driving to the airport. Very impressive. Update: I had to replace 2 rear shocks and 2 front cupped tires under the tire shop warranty. Shocks were not covered. I also replaced brakes that were at 2/3 of thread wear because at the time I did a lot of highway driving. I went back to Chicago and put another 1500 miles. These repairs are common highway driving repairs since I used to drive 70-90 mph speeds.

No complaints
Car does what it was intended to do. Gas mileage has been 37 mpg so far and its a decent little car. Basic model with manual windows and locks. Basically less stuff to break down the road. Very happy with this car seeing my last one averaged 14 mpg.
TOUGH Little Car..
The day I received a $3500 estimate to fix my 6 year old Prius was the day I TRADED IN that 6 year old Prius & Got my BRAN NEW Versa ... Even Up, No Regrets :) A year later I now have 45,000 miles on my Versa. Ive delivered pizza with it in the ice & snow storms of Northern Wisconsin to the heat indexes & humidity of South Mississippi. I get 36mpg Delivering in town with the air ON and 44mpg on freeways. I only use a full synthetic 0w-20 motor oil and keep the car serviced. Ive Driven this car Long, & Very, Very, Hard - and it has never faltered me or slowed me down. It never ceases to Amaze me how much power and room I can have under 15 Grand all-the-while averaging 40 mpg.
Versa Sedan S model 5 Speed
I was in the market for an affordable car I could pay for with cash and avoid payments. I looked at Hyundai, Ford, Kia and Nissan. I went with the the Versa Sedan with the manual transmission. I plopped down $14,128 out the door with an extended warrenty. (5 year bumper to bumper) It drives great and is quite nimble. The back seat is huge as is the trunk. Milage is in the high 30's. It is a nice family car. It's more than an "economy car". It's solid. I'm happy.
Little traveler
Owned this car for three years and put over 65,000 miles on this car and have had not had one single issue with it. Although the car is extremely slow at acceleration. Moreover the cabin materials are all plastic and gives the vehicle a rather cheap feel but that was to be expected with such a low priced vehicle. So i would recommend for anyone who wants low price and reliability over looks and speed.

New so new I shouldn't be writing this review yet.
I bought a sedan over the Note even though I could have gotten a Note for a lot less. I like the sedans looks better. I bought the car for the gas mileage, interior space and trunk size. I am a large guy and fit with no problems. I did not buy it because it is a sport sedan, but it is practical for my daily commuting needs. Many reviews I read on here this site and others make me wonder how many are disgruntled owners that wanted a more expensive car (ALTIMA) and could only afford the Versa!?! I could have bought most any Nissan on the lot, but I chose the versa-tility of the Versa sedan
Good Commuter and nice drive
Nice car for the value, and price. I leased this Sedan got a great deal 130.00 a month for 24 months. I cant complain, I looked at all vehicles and this was the best deal for a new car lease. Yes, its not a sports car or very smart in terms of technology and drivablility, but its very practicle. Im a student and need a car that is cheap and good MPG, this car was a no brainer. My only complain is that on highway speeds 60mph plus it has a tendency to swerve in high wind drafts, but its not to bad once you get out of the wind tunnels. But the car drives solid, I like the stiff suspension, conering could be improved, but overal for the price its a hands down car.
Warranty pit
We purchased a new 2014 Nissan Versa with 7 miles on it. It now has less than 30K and we have had a new transmission, a new gas sensor and a new dash as well as it had to be re-keyed. Such a dissapointment out of this car. To be fair we bought this car for our then 16 year old so price was a huge consideration. We felt that we should buy new since we thought it would be a better investment versus a used car due to reliablity. WRONG investment in dealership waiting rooms, using rental cars (theirs) and time on phone is the return on investment. In 2 years our car has been in the shop for a week or more 3 times. Done with Nissan! Sold it, biggest piece of garbage car ever!

Nissan doesn't stand behind warranty.
Clutch catastrophically failed at 47,000 miles of mostly highway driving. Despite a 60,000 mile power train warranty that was 100% silent on clutch exclusion, Nissan just said "no". They said they couldn't prove it was a defect-maybe I abused it, therefore they refused to cover it. I've been driving vehicles with standard transmissions for 40 years without one ever failing on me, so I know with 100% certainty it is a defect in their vehicle. When I asked their mechanic who did the work on it how long a clutch should last, he said a hydraulic clutch on a vehicle like this should easily last 150,000 miles, but his name wasn't on the dealership sign. When I appealed to the Nissan Regional manager he just said "no" with no explanation other than "he had reviewed it".

Good value (if it doesn't break)
I own the most basic model of the versa. For the price, the value is pretty good. The car is very roomy, more than what you would expect. Looks are also ok. Driving, it has enough power to get you places but take it easy on the road because it does not grip well and gets tossed around by the wind like a leaf. Reliability has been terrible for my car, I would be broke if it wasn't for the warranty. In one year and less than 18,000 miles, it's had 4 significant mechanical problems already. Loose muffler shield, damaged sway bar links, malfunctioning valve, and foggy headlight.
Made for MPG, not for YOU
Perhaps the most uncomfortable car I've driven. To be fair, this is a long-term rental, so I don't have an emotional attachment. With that said, I find the Versa a hard car to love. A slight breeze can be dangerous. Driving in windy Texas is especially challenging as it requires constant corrections to keep it pointed between the stripes. You don't drive the Versa, the Versa drives you. Sometimes I fell it has a death wish. It's loud and uncomfortable on long trips. MPG's are good. A solid 37.5 MPG on long 75 MPH highway stretches, but a 10 gal tank requires frequent stopping. It's not for tall people. No telescoping steering wheel and the sit up straight seats wear you out.
I don’t recommend this vehicle
This car has poor power and a sloppy transmission. Hesitates on take off and seems to always have code problems with the keyless entry and tire pressure warning lights. The motor is noisy and just doesn’t feel like what new cars feel like these days. I think it’s maybe just a tad bit too cheap and would be better off buying something a little more expensive than to have a vehicle that you hate.

2012 to 2014 Nissans have issues
Make sure both tail lights have been replaced. There is a known issue, that Corporate will deny, the tail light assembly is hooked up to the transmission. The original tail light internal control panel is prone to malfunctioning. This can (will) send signals to the transmission, including telling the transmission the car should be going in reverse, which is what makes the transmission stutter/stall on acceleration. This happens while the tail light still seems to function properly. The AC unit had to be replaced at 37,000 miles, "because of the Oklahoma heat," except that for 11 years the AC unit in a 1999 Nissan Altima worked just fine in Oklahoma. The shifter solenoid has failed at 58,000 because of possible humidity or maybe somehow a drink was spilled that seeped into the car and broke it... Now I get to wait for the next thing to break on my car.

2013 Versa 3800miles
Has no storage for driver to access items like center console. Drove me crazy so I bought one off ebay for $45 works and matched perfect. No place for glasses either. Cup holders are placed odly to far up and the others to far back. No inside trunk release. Complained to dealer right corner panel loose and no place to hang gas cap they told me all versas are like that? Very squirley on fwy in wind and rides a little rougher than I would expect for a new car . but I do like the car even with these negatives see favorite features.
2014 Nissan Versa Do not even bother to think
I totally agree with the other car owner's (Baj) review. I have 2014 Nissa versa (new purchased from Nissan dealership). Same issues as Baj. So far until mid September 2018, drive belt has been replaced 3 times, transmission has been replaced and recently alternator has to be replaced. and yes forgot to mention the taillight has been replaced as well. I was trying to drive the car and it won't move forward and had to take it to dealership and was told to get the taillight replaced. It was surprising to me what the taillight has to do with car not getting into motion. But after reading other reviewer's message I understand that taillight on this car is somehow linked to the transmission. My only suggestion would be please do not even bother to think about buying this car.

Brake failure
I was driving at 30 miles an hour and my new versa with 7000 miles. All of the sudden my computer went off and i could not use the brakes. I was lucky to avoid an accident. I said I do not feel safe in this car to Nissan and Lokey of Clearwater and they said they will just repair the car. At first they didn't know what was wrong and then they fixed the ABS chip and recalibrated the computer. I drove the car and one week later I was going 50 mph and the brakes were all the way in and they were barely stopping. Luckily I avoided the accident. I called Nissan and they ignored me and said that there is nothing they can do for me. So now they fixed the master cylinder. I feel very unsafe driving.
More reliable than your Ford
This car really holds itself. If you are looking for gimmicks such as Bluetooth or even a touchscreen or being quick or even for it to be a Toyota Landcruiser, you are in the wrong place. This car was built to be a commuter and a highway car. The Versa has great fuel economy and the transmission allows you to shift smoothly albeit you can feel the weigh of the car. This car loves 2nd and 3rd. The boot is spacious and really well-designed. My car is used every day in city 30%- highway 70%. I have changed the oil every 5000 miles with Mobil 1 and the air filter every year or so and will keep on doing till it dies. This car has been really reliable and has not let me down. I have transported up to 10 people in it with no problems. The only thing I dislike is that Nissan did not make this car with a turbo or offer an SR engine.

Cvts belong in go carts
I’m sure there’s one that doesn’t have this transmission but if you’ve never heard of one then do your homework. It’s a pain to replace, and expensive too! I could on and on but I won’t. And don’t get me started w the other problems I’ve owned this for 6 months and I’m trading it in before it craps the bed on my family and I.

Pass on Nissan too many issues to count!
My car is not even 6 months old and already I am having issues with it. When I first got it, it drove ok at times it was a little noisy and hesitated when accelerating! Since the TCM reprogram it is now driving like a 20 year old car very rough and noisy! I no longer feel safe in the car because of all the shuddering. Nissan has no answer for this problem as it seems to be common in alot of their cars even their newest models.I guess I feel lucky because my car drove for 6 months. I have read stories of people having the same issues or worse with Nissan cars that have only had their cars for a few weeks. In addition, I am filling it up with gas every few days! The car seems to have a mind of its own and will pull and accelerate on its own even while trying to come to a stop in traffic making it very dangerous to drive. The body of my car is like paper. My windows wont roll down anymore. To make matters worse, I have a very expensive loan that I took out to finance this peice of crap and I am afraid the car will die long before the balance is payed off. The only saving grace in all of this mayhem is that I purchased an extended warranty. I have a feeling I am going to use it alot. I am already 3 visits in to the dealer in less than 2 weeks. Do yourself a favor and pass on Nissan. Go with a Honda thats the car I wanted originally. I now regret not following my gut as it would have saved me alot of headaches and money.

Solid car 4 the $$$
"Bought an SV model and have close to 200 miles in. It's terrific!! Just what I was looking for. It get's me from point A to point B without spending lot's of hard earned cash. If you are looking for luxury then recommend the Acura line, or possibly Honda, but for normal commute, it's perfect. Getting about 36 mpg average and loving it. The CVT doesn't bother me so far (based on reviews) - actually it is smoother than most normal tranny cars I've driven. I did own a Datsun B-210 (manual) and an Altima so I do like Nissan. LOTS of room. My opinion - this car's ingenuity sticks out at me and I'm definitely loving it. Take one out for a test drive and you'll see. I did, and now I own one!!"
My little red car Versa SL
I have had two Versa cars. The 1st one a 2007 hatchback model. The 2nd one I still have. It is red and very nice looking with alloy wheels. It may take a few seconds longer to merge into traffic. You just allow a few more seconds. The gas mileage is outstanding at 35 average and 40 mpg on the highway. This car is a 2013. I have had this car for 6.5 years and haven't had to spend hardly extra money on it. just to change the oil. This is a great little car to drive around town and does very well on the highway too. I had to buy new tires last year (2018) Why do you want to know my weight, reviewing a car? I DON'T OWN THIS CAR ANYMORE

my versa
My versa has been reliable. No problems at all in 41k miles besides the motor burning some oil. When I first got it only had 2k miles in april 2014.it was a rental and I guess nobody rented it cause it was a manual.I was using full synthetic when i got it. I switched to regular 5w30 because it was using between 1 and 2 qts of oil and that stuff is expensive. I had to add a qt at 3k, is that normal? The owners manual say 5k for normal driving so that's when I change it.

Never buy this car!!!
This car is absolutely terrible!!! The handling isn’t good in the rain or snow. The CVT transmission is garbage!!!! I have a 2014 and have only had it for two years and a belt broke and since I was gifted it and it was preowned when bought I have no warranty. It ended up a nightmare to try to fix. $4000 for a new transmission and now it seems a head gasket is blown on the motor and I’m screwed!!! Now I get to buy a new car and carry loads of debt. I’ll be trading this pos in.

My college car that I love dearly
I bought this car brand new at the age of 23 and I am now 30 and it’s still going strong. I finished paying it and I still drive it because I’ve had no issues with it other than a rattling noise I had a while back. This sounds bad but I’ve never done a transmission oil change and yet it has survived. I had no clue this was something I had to do. Anyhow, this little car is so spacious inside and I always get compliments for its space and Apple red color. I’ve driven to miami, fl twice from the border of Texas. I’ve driven to San Antonio, Dallas, Houston, Mexico, etc and yet my baby is still healthy. I don’t want to sell it but it’s time I buy my Lexus. I’ve changed the tires on it only once for my job in Houston. The only thing I did not like in this car was the seat (I have a long torso.) I give this car an A+. It’s gas efficient! 2 of my friends ended up buying versas...

The bruh mobile
For a car that starts around 18 grand, it is definitely worth the money, especially for a daily driving. It's mpg that is 30 for the city and 40 for the highway. Plus, I have been driving this car for 6 years and it has 289,129 miles and it runs perfectly fine.

Ok bought my 2014 versa brand new because I was living in pa and working in ny and need reliable transportation. I now have 182xxx and it and in 2019 I started having transmission problems. Dealer wanted way too much to replace and besides it's more than the car is worth. Honestly that's the only problem i have had with the car just the transmission but then again I got the basic model (roll up windows no power options) guess I got my moneys wirth. I plan on driving it till the transmission completely breaks then I'm leaving it at the side of the road and driving my 95 bronco.

This is a nice car
1) Comfortable. 2) Practical. 3) Good gas Mileage. 4) Nice Drive. 5) Not a lot of power. But, enough power.
Noisy Engine
Biggest drawback in this car is the engine. Noisy, buzzy, underpowered. At times hesitated on takeoff. Good MPG at 34 average though. The CVT transmission which took some time to get use to would seemed like it wasnt sure what (gear) it should be in. The car seems to ride and drive ok. Lots of back seat leg room and big trunk for a small car. Over all the car was okay but not as nice driving of a car as my sisters new Ford Focus with close to the same MPG.
Most reviews are BS...
I haven't found a single realistic review. Im going to try to give you one with this horribly short space. The cost, for what it is is good. It's one of the cheapest new cars you can own, great gas mileage and Nissan makes good quality cars. When actually driving. You have large blind spots. Looking out the windows including rear is very difficult due to the design of the seats specifically, along with the shape and size of the windows themselves. This is a safety hazard. Merging into traffic especially the highway, or anywhere will need you to be defensive and deliberate. Very touchy turning. If you are distracted for a few seconds you could easily go into another lane by accident.
Not so great MPG
Although I like the comfort and style, the MPG rating is way over rated. Driving it on the highway and city mixed I get 26 MPG. I reset the average counter, drove 75 miles on the highway with cruise control @ 60 mph and still under 30 MPG.
$12570 with 1.49 apr for 4yrs!!
32.5 mpg with mixed driving of hwy & street. I got 5spd and loving it. took the them 2months to order it but it was worth the wait. No power windows, locks, or mirrors but everything else is standard. Great car for work since I drive 52miles to work one way....also, it's a timing chain so this car will last forever with less maintenance.
burnt in the high desert
Don't buy it in Victorville. Don't tell the salesman this is your first new car and you haven't shopped around. Don't accept the first quote or the percentage rate. I paid over 16000 dollars for a Nissan versa with just an ac and a crummy auto. trans. Almost 6% interest rate, and got a car with 128 miles instead of the new one I was told I would get. In shop several times. Recall for foot sticking on accelerator. I had close to 700 fico.

Is there a recall on my versa
Water leaks under my car when I purchased it no passenger head rest not the right battery check engine light stays on
Very disappointed in my 2013 Nissan Versa
A few years after I bought the Versa new, I needed a bumper repair and an auto body person told me that my car was damaged front and back which had to have been before I took possession of it which I was not told about. If I was, I would not have accepted that car. The body repair guy said that what may have happened is the car fell off the delivery truck and it was patched up and sold as new. I was not happy with that but thought it probably was ok. Recently, my steering column broke and water leaked into the car. To repair the steering column alone would cost around $6500 which I can't afford and it only has around 84000 miles on it. Could the original damage cause damage to the steering column which eventually got worse and finally broke? I wrote to Nissan and they blew me off saying it was a dealer issue. The Nissan dealer is out of business but I wrote to the specific automotive network and have not heard from them. When I bought the car, they gave me a lifetime warranty on engine and drive train. I don't believe a steering column would count on that. I did get a new transmission through an extended warranty which has expired. I was terribly cheated and will follow up with the automotive network asking for help in this matter. I would like to trade my Versa for a similar car in good working order that has around 84000 miles on it (as long as it is not a Nissan). That would be fair. I would be open to advice on this.
It's a great little car
This car is now a little more than 10 years old, I can say it hasn't needed much over the 10 years. I replaced the battery at 8 years old. The tires and front brake pads at 70K miles (it's at 82K now). I've replaced the windshield wipers once (I use Rain X). It gets a full synthetic oil change every 10K, that's it. If I'm driving I average 43MPG, my wife 40MPG.
