excellent
I have been in the dealership once for warranty work, to replace a $.05 clip that broke. I absolutely love this car, never driven a car with such a broad powerband. It's very easy to drive, and one of the most fun cars out there. 5 stars!
Very nice car
This car is very fun whe tuned even the slightest bit. I got a stillen header and downpipe and nismo intake kit and this car moves very fast ive gotten it up to 156 mph on those upgrades and some tires.
I like it
I have been content with my Sentra SE. It gets good gas mileage (30s) and has been relatively problem free. The ride on this car is a bit rough at times, but I've become accustomed to it. Some issues I've had to repair are the A/C needed to be recharged, O2 sensor replaced, and the driver's side window motor was replaced (automatic windows).
Nice Little Car
This is the third Sentra I have owned. These are very reliable cars and the gas mileage is great. I get 36 MPG on the highway.
Compact Tank
My car has not had an easy mile in its life. From destroying a deer going 65 mph to some mild offroad drifting (rock crawling?!?) this car has been virtually invincible. We got this about the same time we got a Suburban, and this little car has worn its abuse much better. I have the SE model with the SR20DE and an automatic tranny. This car isn't pretty after its 7 years of abuse, but it sure runs like a top. I'm in college and commute over 40 miles every day and I expect this car to be there for me for another 100,000 miles. It has carried my 16 foot canoe hundreds of miles without a problem and has done dozens of trips to all the midwest. Do yourself a favor and get the stickshift.
Perfect teen car
This car has shown absolutly no problems for 2 whole years. It may not be the fastest car but it is still very sporty. The interior is very durable and the feel inside the car is luxury.
Could not be worse
own it 16 months, serviced only in Nissan dealerships, never late for maintenance. result: CD/AM/FM replaced,1 recall-headlamps,sometimes driver door leaks when its raining, shift bulb replaced, back sit leg room for people with no legs, dashboard makes noises, legendary horrible paint job. 11 months after purchase had steering noise-still not fixed.Nissan certified mechanic says supposed to be like that (Sentra"feature"!?). Cust.Service dealership or headquaters THE WORST. Auto trans on SE-slow start even with145hp engine, 4 cyl.Once was driving straight, frontend started vibrating and car started pulling to right-still investigating
2001 Sentra GXE
I bought my Nissan Sentra GXE brand new in april of 2001, I was deciding between this and a Honda Civic, I made the mistake of choosing this car. Since then, I've put about 28,000 miles on it, and it has been in the shop about 6 times. 3 times for recall, and 3 other time the car just broke down. The most recent trip to the dealer is the most outrageous experience i've ever had. The car would just stall in for no reason, and after leaving the car with the dealership for over a week, the dealership still can't figur out what is wrong with the car. Now I'm getting rid of the car and planning to purchase an Accord, Camery or a Jetta soon.
Fun Car
It tends to make a "bird noise" when I start it in the morning.(mechanic says that there is nothing wrong???) I already had to replace one of the pullys, the horn, and the radio. Despite the fact my car seems to be spending most of its time with my mechanic, it drives great!
Excellent car for the price
I bought this car and never had any problem with it.. always serviced at the dealership. goes from 0 - 60 in 9 seconds if it is 5 speed. the fuel economy is around 28 mpg. In your are serious about buying a compact size car this is the way to go. faster than a civic and a jetta cheppear than a Corolla a jetta or civic. Nissan Sentra is your choice.
A Great, Fun to Drive Little Car
While my particular car suffers from some build defects, its overall performance and handling are way above the norm for this class. The venerable SR20 engine is really strong and when most of the power comes on at 4000 rpm it's a rush like no other. The paint in typical Nissan fashion isn't so great, neither is the build quality of the interior, but the overall feel of this car is sure to please anyone out looking for a little fun.
Reliable
Bought it as salvage in 2003 from flood in Texas, but no mechanical damage. Had the recall for crankshaft sensor back in 2003, but have not have any issue with this 5-speed. With 102K and with no belt to change (vehicle has timing chain) no major expense for that so it saves in this aspect. Hoping to get another 100K? with regular oil changes of course.
Great bang for the buck
Don't know why there are not more Sentra SE on the road..it's fast, handles like a dream, and is just fun to drive!
New car NIssan Sentra XE 2001
Good vehicle so far. A little rattly when driving. Leg room in back could be alot better. The car is overall a good car, although the dealership never gave me a owners manual, and will not get me one. I think this should be included in a new car.
Good and reliable
Bought it with 12,600 on the ODO. Now has 95,200. Used Synthetic in it since I got it; engine runs great. Overall, I've been very happy with it as a commuter car that does about 80-90 miles a day. The most major thing I've had to do was the recent suspension upgrade where I replaced the stock struts/shocks/springs with something a little more sporting; this move totally transformed the car. The GXE was designed for comfort, not handling! The materials used in the interior are cheap (except dash) and show wear easily. Also, get the windows tinted as the sun fades seats/carpet. Nissan really skimped on the interior to save money, but it's got good mechanicals and a solid chassis to work with.
Strong like bull
Great 4-cylinder car with 145 horsepower. I bought the car new in October, 2001 and have driven it ever since - 113,000 miles so far. Fuel economy has been good the whole time, and is the same now as it was when I bought it (26 city/30+ highway). The only upgrade I've added is a K&N Air Filter Charger for about $40 (improves fuel economy and horsepower a little bit). Only maintenance other than routine has been new brakes, new tires, and new spark plugs. Handling is great. My only complaint the whole time has been the road noise - it's pretty noisy at highway speeds. Didn't like the "premium" sound system that came with the SE model, so I added an aftermarket system.
Excellent small car- Miss it so much!
We bought our '01 Sentra as a young couple. Its design, size in its class and handling were the features that sold it. In 7 years of owning it, we have never worried about taking it for long trips. It holds its own on snowy and icy VT roads in winter with the right tires. Everything about this car was solid - the doors were heavy and tough as were the lid of the trunk and the hood. The mileage was a fuel sipping 35 mpg on the highway. It is a compact car and the room behind the driver can be a little less if the driver is tall, but that is true of all compact cars of '01. I have finally traded our Sentra in for a Quest as our family requirements have changed. This is a great Nissan product!
Great cheap to own car
My parents bought this car brand new in 2001. It was given to me in 2013 with 95k. It's needed minimal repairs besides regular maintenance. My parents replaced a faulty coil pack and egr valve that was covered under warranty. I've replaced the clutch and struts with about 125k. Car still has plenty of get up and go at 145k. Paint has peeled off but everything still works. I love this car. I will drive it until the wheels fall off

I am torn on this
It's a great car. I bought it as a private party purchase. It looks great, cute car, but has no get up and go. No power at all. When you get up to speed it's fine. The transmission is very weak and the battery can't hold all the car has to put put. Out great on gas both in town and on the highway. Comfortable and stylish

Best car I've had
Best car I have had. I got it at 170k it has 270k on it now. The issues I have had is the radiator went out the alternater, thermostat needed to be replaced the crank sensor did leave me stranded one time, the ac and heater control its messed up cant find a good one. That is the big downside i have, basic maintenance on the car. It's a 5 speed 1.8 love the car. And I have also put the car into some racing like situation and beat the piss out of it. It's a great car for being 22 years old with 260k miles on it.
Reliable.. WHAT?!
Unfortunately I have not been as lucky as others who have posted here. I have had the computer go out at 70k, the rotors go out at 100k, the brake pads are replaced every other month, I get about 17 MPG. I have had the fuel filter replaced, the steering column replaced, and must do regular flushes to all fluids. I bring it in monthly to a mechanic (and have switched a few times just to make sure the mechanics weren't messing with the car). Can anyone say lemon?
Pretty Decent
I've had my car for about 8 months now. It replaced a 1990 Ford Escort so by comparison I love it. It's only given me a few small problems, dipstick breaking, not the best power windows, and a rattling noise that my mechanic tells me is nothing serious, just an unimportant loose part. I don't usually drive around that many people so the lack of room in the back isn't that big of a deal for me. The people that have ridden back there are usually fine as long as the person in front of them is forgiving.
