Beware - My Murano Has Not Aged Well

fran31, 02/20/2013
2007 Nissan Murano SL 4dr SUV AWD (3.5L 6cyl CVT)

This car was great for the first 5 years. At 73,000 miles some very expensive and un warranted repairs became necessary. The drivers seat frame cracked, this necessitated replacement that cost $1300. The high pressure power steering line also went, this was a $600 repair. The transfer case associated with the CVT transmission is seeping and requires a rebuild that will cost over $2500. My Niissan service manager told me that Nissan is fully aware of each of these issues and as has published service bulletins because of the high failure rate. Unfortunately Nissan would not reimburse me for these repairs. The extended warranty on the CVC does not cover the transfer case.

My powertrain warranty expired on March 13. I went to dealership on Jan/Feb 13 & till then I did not have any problem. I went again on 07/13 just after my warranty expired & now dealer says I have following issues and the price for it. Nissan Dealership is not telling me issues with cars until warranty runs out so that they can get money out of me. I have 5 year around 3 month and 49900 mileage on my 2007 Nissan murano SL. •right front lower control arm($445.99) & left front lower control arm($445.99) •Reseal transfer case ($1,871.37) •Replace rack & pinion assembly ($1,441.19) •Replace oil pan gasket($141.99) Hall nissan virginia beach suks .transfer case problem is wide spread.

Best car I ever owned

Car drives beautifully no matter what the weather. Handles comfortably, quiet drive, CVT which requires no input from me. Leather seats with great padding and lumbar support. Plenty of room in the back seat and enough cargo space for me. Recently transported four kitchen chairs and had no problem fitting them in the back. Have been driving this car for 11 years, and at 129,000 miles have had very few mechanical issues. Would buy it again.

Nice Ride - Got a great deal

I just purchased my '07 SL-AWD a month ago and so far so good. Really like how quickly it passes other vehicles. Love the NAV and the back up camera. Another cool thing is the speed sensitive radio volume and the tire pressure monitor and gas mileage indicator. So far I am at 19 MPG and I'm no granny when I'm driving to work. The seats are very comfortable and the ride is so smooth and quite and the handing is amazing for a SUV. Took a sharp corner @ 55 MPH and no roll or wheel squeal. The only regret I have is getting it in black. I forgot how much you have to keep it cleaned. But when it is clean, wow, it looks sharp.

Purchased my 2007 Nissan Murano this past April and had to put well over $5,000 extra into it. Transmission failed, (just missed warranty of course). There is supposed to be a discount if the warranty is up and I still did not qualify because I was not the original owner of the car. Unreal! So many other problems are occurring and I cant even keep up. I completely got ripped off with this piece of crap car that I am now stuck with until I drive it in the ground. I am too deep in the hole with putting money into this POS. Do not get this car if its even close to 100k miles on it. Alllll down hill after that.

I bought my 2007 Murano used February 2017 with a 126,000 miles on it. It was a 2 lot, 2 previous owners vehicle myself being the 3rd. I have the SL AWD. The original owner apparently upgraded at purchase so my Murano has almost everything the SE has. No navigation which I am fine with. We use mid grade gas ⛽️ 89. I notice if we use the lowest it rattles more. All maintenance is done as soon as it’s due. Luckily my Murano was well taken care of by previous owners. I get 18.8 miles per gallon and moving up because I reset my average mpg so I could get an accurate reading. Plus I don’t drive like a maniac. Follow the road rules and dont beat your Murano it will run longer and gas will go further. I did my research before buying this vehicle. It is not made for off roading. It does have some pep but it’s not going to fly like an 8 cylinder. The CVT transmission is quiet and smooth. Keep in mind how it works and you will understand how hot rodding this vehicle could cause issues. The back seat is very roomy. I dont have 3rd row seating. The front seats are adjustable and heated. I can also store my seat preference on the drivers door. You can also set your driver seat to move to make it easier to get in and out with the led screen options again don’t have navigation. The back up camera is great. You can see the entire width of the vehicle. For those who like music the Bose sound system is nice and honestly I can turn mine all the way up and it could still handle louder. I don’t know if all of the systems come with sub woofer but mine did. It fits inside of the spare tire in the storage. The LED are adjustable and very bright. Well maintained braking system stops on a dime. I like the back window wiper! My favorite thing besides everything is my keyless start using my FOB. I feel safe with my family in our 2007 Nissan Murano SL AWD. It’s a great family vehicle that needs on time routine maintenance. I ❤️ mine and will definitely buy another Nissan in the future. Update: 12 year old Murano ended up with a rusted rear subframe. How does a vehicles suspension rust that badly at this age? $2700.00 dollars later and it's now safe to drive. Seems like maybe Nissan only used partial quality items to supe up their sales but fall flat when it comes longer term. 12 year old vehicles should not experience these type of major repairs.

I just bought my 2007 Murano, used, and have about 2000 trouble free miles on it. I drove a BMW 323i for 8 years, but it was starting to cost me big $. Looking for reliability, style and performance, the Murano so far has fit the bill nicely. I was surprised how tight and controlled the ride is. Steering provides good feel & connection to the road, brakes solid and strong. The ride on highway is comfortable and well controlled. Occasionally, small bumps on turns tend to cause some minor wheel hop, but still well controlled. The engine sounds great when started and has good torque. I'm getting 22 MPG combined. CVT works smoothly, though does rob some acceleration from a strong engine.

It's not hard to go from driving a mid size GM van for 17 years to a new Murano SL awd. our other car is a 2000 Maxima SE. It is the quality and dependability of the Maxima that made my wife and I look into the Murano. We snow ski in the winter and water ski in the summer. We tow a Sea Doo (1000 lbs) to our favorite summer getaway (300 miles) and with the awd...there's not a snow hill that has prevented us from getting to the top safely. It may not have the same ride as the SE, but, it handles the roads just the same. It's stylish and it doesn't take long to get used to the CVT. CVT is like taking off in a jet... imagine the pilot having to shift gears during takeoff.

This is my second review. I traded in my 2003 Murano for the 2006 Murano. Love it even better. There are more safety features than you can imagine. The engine is a break-away engine, 8-10 airbags, windows and sunroof will not shut if something like fingers, head, etc. is in the way, backup camera and doors will not lock if the keys are in the car. New smart key is nice for when you have your hands full (the car will recognize you-no keys needed to open doors or start car). This car is alot for your money!

The interior and exterior are very attractive. However, I had many problems with the CVT transmission that was making a rattling noise when accelerated which would cost me more than $2,000 to have fixed. The radio went out after just a few months of me having this vehicle. It was not good on gas mileage & the front end was making a squeaking noise. I WILL NOT recommend this vehicle to no one.

I have had some horrible experiences with this vehicle, starting with a bad transmission at 48K miles, ending with a bad radiator and steering rack at 62K miles. The interval between 36K and 65K miles so far has yielded literally close to $8K or more in needed repairs for a vehicle that is driven very lightly and locally. Thank God for the extended warranty else I would have sold this thing years ago!!!

Ordered my '07 SL AWD Touring w/ Nav and VDC (Platinum exterior and caffe interior) mid August and finally got delivery of the vehicle about two weeks ago. The ride is very smooth and acceleration is adequate. Braking is very responsive and navigation system has been able to find all addresses I've entered so far even brand new streets. Owned a Jeep previously and the stability of the Murano is much better, no roll. I'm averaging around 21 mpg. Also purchased extended warranty (6 yrs/72,000 miles) for $995 which was a good deal.

Car averages 15 mpg and has numerous problems with door locks failing and most notably the driver seat forward and reverse motor. Because of the common failure of this 2 x 4" 12 volt motor owners must shell out up to $1,800 to replace the whole assembly. I requested the old parts and tested each of the three motors and found the forward/reverse motor defective. It took 10 minutes to remove this motor to look inside; no apparent damage but a poor ohms reading and no reaction to adding power to the motor. Cleaned commutator and adjusted brushes to make it operational. Nissan does not sell this motor as an OEM part and you rarely see a used on for sale. This is a big drawback for the Nissan Murano as you never know when the seat will fail or the power locks which cost $1,200 to have the dealer repair. Regal Nissan policy is to gouge the customer to the utmost rather than partner in a satisfied dealer-customer relationship. Steer clear and look at a reliable Ford or Chevy. The master cylindefr failed next, $776 for the dealer to replace but none in stock and none in Atlanta. NAPA garage replaced for $435 with OEM part. Next time I will pull it, place it in a bench vice and simply hone it with a tool from Pep Boys in about 5 minutes and use a kit to rebuild it. to If you google for nissan problems in general or by year, you will find many frustrated owners; many who promise to never own another Nissan. This is one great car. Had our mechanic give it the top to bottom and he said he would let his kids own it. He was concerned at first as the Murano can have a goosey transmission. This one shows no signs of any issues and it tight as drum. Not a bit of trouble and everything works great. I'm amazed that an 8 year old vehicle has so many of he current frills like back-up camera and key-less entry.

When my husband's company changed their policy on taking company vehicles home, I had to sell my 350Z and go back to driving a SUV. After test driving just about every SUV out there, I decided on the Murano. With two back to back major storms in one week here in Denver, my Murano is being put through the tests. And I must say it has performed great. I feel very comfortable driving it in the amount of snow we have received. I chose the SE model because I like a firmer ride without feeling like I am driving a truck. The ride is very quiet and smooth. Cup holders are nice and deep and hold my Venti sized drinks just fine.

This car is a absolute nightmare when it comes to even basic maintenance. Hope you never need to replace the spark plugs on it. What typically would take me 1/2 hour at most, took 4+for a single plug. To even get to the rear ones be ready to remove the intake manifold and all the hoses. There’s no room to even access the rear components that require removal. It was a debacle and I will never buy another Nissan for the rest of my car buying days. Unless you have the means to have a mechanic do your basic maintenance, look for something else. Anything else. I’m dreading the day I have to do a actual repair. Makes me miss my vw rabbit. Will update if I find any pros pertaining to this vehicle.

Having lived with my Murano for 3 years, I felt it was time to report in. My Mo is factory spec, no aftermarket upgrades. 06/07 models are truly the best years. Significant styling changes to the exterior/interior in 05 boost class and elegance. While 06/07 models benefited from increased sound deadening and are free of most early glitches. I'm always test driving cars and IMHO the 1G Murano still stacks up well against modern competitors, a testament to Nissan's forward thinking and sound design back in 03. Only modern amenities missing are Bluetooth and Aux/iPod interfaces. The Murano strikes a good balance between sport, practicality and comfort. I plan to keep my Mo around for a while.

It's the first Nissan I've ever had. Owned Toyota and Honda before. Don't like Honda's boxy style. Toyota has good quality however performance is lacking. Wanted a Murano when it just came out, finally got a 2007 SL AWD w/ Touring Pkg. Loved it!!! Very stylish and functional. It's wide enough and very spacious in the back. Handles like a car, small turning radius. I don't really need a third row seat so this one is perfect.

I had bought my 2007 Murano S new in July 2007. The car looked stylish and was comfortable. No lack of power with the 3.5L V-6. I noticed no sluggishness with the CVT. A broken front motor mount was replaced under warranty at 34,214 miles. The left sun visor began dropping down at 50,571 miles and had to be replaced. The frame in the driver's seat had cracked and needed to be welded at 64,659 miles. At the same time both sun visors had to replaced again. A troublesome dealer-installed alarm system was removed at 69,106 miles after I learned that the car already had the factory alarm system. (I was ripped off agreeing to add the alarm system while financing the purchase.) However, my car was comfortable to ride in and was a good freeway commuter. Struts and shock absorbers were replaced at 111,753 miles. New spark plugs soon followed. Radiator had to be replaced at 132,796 miles (in 2014), while a top engine mount also had to be replaced. At the same time I needed to replace both lower control arm bushings and both front lower control arms. Car rode smoothly again after the suspension work. The valve cover gaskets were replaced in 2016 at 178,093 miles. Headlight issues plagued the car starting at 187,000 miles. In February 2019, I lost coolant from a failed hose, so all radiator and heater hoses were replaced. New struts and shock absorbers were again replaced at 206,615 miles. Two front axle bearings were replaced at 209,810 miles in 2019. The #3 cylinder coil pack went bad at 210,492 miles. New spark plugs added again. In October 2020, at 219,409 miles I needed to replace an air intake manifold runner control solenoid valve, and I replaced the valve cover gaskets again and camshaft position sensor o-ring to stop oil leaks. In October 2020, I replaced all the ignition coil packs and 3 fouled spark plugs at 219,734 miles. The throttle body and MAF sensor were cleaned at the same time. The last repair at 220,112 miles involved replacing both camshaft sensors. Fortunately, I never had to replace the CVT transmission at 220,000 miles, the catalytic converters remained original, and the oxygen sensor tubes never failed me. I was fearing that the CVT would not hold out, although I never experienced any shifting or shuddering problems with my Murano. By this time in November 2020 I traded in the car at $2,500 for a 2018 Mazda CX5. Because I had paid to paint the hood and right side, the body looked immaculate and helped me to negotiate a great trade in price at the dealership. My Murano was dependable despite the repairs needed. I kept up the maintenance and ensure that the car looked new and cared for.

The CVT gives a smooth and powerful acceleration. I've never had any problem passing another vehicle quickly. The SE was rated as giving a choppy ride due to the CVT, but I don't feel it that way. It's not obvious at all when the transmission changes gears. We travel alot and have over 65,000 miles on our 2007.

I just traded my 2003 Murano for a 2007. I was very disappointed with my 2003 because after 100,500 miles, the "pressure sensor" in the transmission started to go out so they told me the only fix was a new transmission ($5200!). There was nothing wrong with the CVT, just the sensor. I was very upset over this and said I would never purchase another Murano. Well, after driving all of the 2007 cars, I could not find anything close to the Murano. So, I bought a new one. Looks like they have ironed out all of the kinks. I am sure they have fixed the pressure sensor issue. If not, there will be tons of screaming customers before me.

I have been purchasing cars since I was 17 years old, and now at the age of 52, I have to say this is the absolute worst car I have ever had the disadvantage of owning. This car is literally a money pit with problems from the horn, to the repeat repairs on the alternator (which cost ALOT), to the rattles, catalytic converter, and ect. Do yourself a favor and run if a salesman even suggests purchasing one. I am looking for another car and I’m going back to a tried and true Toyota or Honda.

I have had my Nissan Murano since new, With 137,000 miles on it. All in all it has been a very good car. I still enjoy driving it and I think the style helps it to age very well, blending in with vehicles 10 years its junior. Although not always through the dealer, I have given it the full required maintenance. The only major failure was a high pressure power steering hose failed at about 63,00 miles. This is definitely a thirsty car averaging 16 City and 22 Highway. I could never afford to buy new again, but would consider buying a later model used one when this one wears out.

Have had our 2007 Murano for almost 3 1/2 years and have had 0 problems with it and have enjoyed it thoroughly during this time. It is fun to drive (for an SUV), handles exceptionally well, and has fairly good fuel economy for an SUV/crossover.

I went with the Nissan Murano after much research because of the advertised MPG, Utility and Amenities. I have 45K miles on it now and have only had to do the scheduled maintenance. No issues, zip, none, 0 with this vehicle. The Goodyear tires are still the originals in fact and I have about 5K mi left on them. The AWD works well in the snow and on wet surfaces for all you weekend skiers out there. The seats on a long drive were quite comfortable as well. New the gas mileage was bad = 17 MPG. Now I get 21-22 regularly in mixed driving. It’s fairly quick too despite the fun zapping CVT transmission. This, besides the paint chipping a bit too much for my taste, is my biggest gripe.

I reviewed the various options for a sporty SUV for about 4 months. I settled on the Murano and recently purchased this for my wife. I am 6'5" and fit very comfortably in this vehicle, front and back seats. Very good acceleration with CVT and very comfortable solid ride. The exterior is stylish. Overall, very pleased with my purchase.

I was in a roll over accident in my Murano and I literally walked away from the accident with out a scratch! God and my 2007 Nissan Murano saved my life. The car was totaled, but I am a walking miracle that seat belts save lives and this car is very safe! I I could, I would attach a picture so you all could see how my Murano looked after the crash. I am in the hunt now to buy another 2007 Nissan Murano!

Purchased the Murano in August of '07. Several things have gone bad on this vehicle: ate up the tires fairly quickly, ignition switch had to be replaced along with a different key, motor mount broke, battery when out and had to replace the cvt boot. I take good care of my vehicles. At first this vehicle was great but after a while things started to fall apart, so much for reliability! I had to pay $1700 + out of pocket to replace the motor mount. Called Nissan customer service and told them bad engineering. Motor mounts should not just break-part is made up of plastic rubber and metal-go figure. Should be a recall on this. Needless to say I won't get my money back for this major flaw.

This is our second and when the lease is up next April, we will most likely lease another. It is a good, solid car that performs well with no trouble. This is my wife's car so I expect it to be a safe, easy to drive car. I wish the gas mileage was better but we live with it. Love the car as does my wife.

We have just completed a 30 day, 8k mile roadtrip, Florida - Utah and back, the car performed superbly. 1100' climbs on gravel roads, no matter what we attempted the car was just perfect. We completed 625 miles one day thro Texas - so comfortable, can't praise it enough. Had an oil change in Kanab by Ramsey's - brilliant. Got back - Royal Palm Nissan dealer for full service and the hassle started. The local dealer lets a brilliant car down.

I've owned my Murano for about nine months and have minimal complaints! It is the S AWD version and don't have all the bells, but performance is unbeatable in it's class. I see a lot of people say they don't get gas mileage, but I get a solid 28 to 29 mpg on the hwy doing 60 to 65 mph. It will decline significantly from 65 to 80 as with any vehicle. Average 18 to 20 mpg in town. Rides very solid but not uncomfortable. Never had a maintenance issue with it. Would recommend it to anyone! By the way, I'm pretty sure all models back seats recline by pulling the tabs where the seat meets the back. I know mine does and I have a pretty basic model.

Just traded 03 Trailblazer getting 14/18 mpg for the 07 Murano. Getting 18.3/23 mpg. Very happy with the mileage. Drove it in the snow this week and didn't miss the 4wd. The Murano feels very "planted" in the snow for only being Fwd. I do wish the headlights were brighter on Hi- beam considering how good they are on low.

I have no idea why Edmunds dislikes the CVT. Maybe Nissan fixed its short- comings since the early days. I find it untra-smooth and responsive at any speed. Neither do I understand their so-so review of Murano's Bose stereo. I'm a bit of an audiophile and can't imagine anything sounding any better. First 4 tanks I'm getting 20+ mpg mostly around town. It is amazingly quiet. I can't figure out why it's not at the top of everyone's list.

I love this little muscle car..or should i say SUV. The design inside and out is modern without being over the top. And the engine is powerful, yet smooth. It has more headroom and legroom for its size than you would ever expect. I usually keep a car for a year, but this one is 2 and i have no desire to trade...its fantastic and i will have it until i need another MURANO...its my little luxury=mobile!!!!

I have been researching SUVs for the past year and a half and finally decided that the Murano was the best choice for me. I love the sleek design of the exterior. I wanted something with plenty of power, comfort, reliability and great resale value. I think the Murano meets all of my expectations! It is replacing a 2000 GMC sierra X-cab 4x4 pickup. The murano has more zip than the truck had. I only have about 600 miles on it so far and am getting 21 mpg in mixed driving. I'm sure I'll get the 24 on the highway that they suggest. I love the CVT. It is always at the perfect rpm for the condition. The bose stereo is not as awesome as I thought it would be, but it sounds pretty good. I'm very pleased.

We started out looking at Chevrolets but the salesman showed us the 2007 Nissan Murano. We drove it and loved it immediately!!! We had a 2006 PT Cruiser we both loved but there was no comparison. We made our deal and took it home. It's the basic S model with AWD. Not a lot of frills but enough. It rides like a big car but can be parked like our cruiser. So far the average gas mileage is 23 mpg, city and highway driving. Our family thinks it's really cool (I'm 70 and wife's younger). It's a real pleasure to drive and the transmission is a piece of work, smooth and quiet. We live on a gravel and dusty road and the body is tight and quiet. This is a car all your friends will envy as you cruise.

I purchased a 2007 platinum AWD SL back in March of this year. The car was mainly for my wife, but as a guy, I must say I really enjoy driving it. The Murano has tons of passenger room and by simply folding down the seats you get a lot of cargo space. The CVT is also great, you can't even feel it shift. I've read reports that say the Murano lacks performance, I would have to disagree. The CVT is both smooth and powerful... not a race car, but it can get out of its own way. The back up camera is a must and very helpful. We purchased the tour package that comes with everything from a sunroof/ HID lights to adjustable pedals. The interior is very stylish, but so is the outside.

My wife and I purchased a new 2007 Nissan Murano in February. This is perhaps one of the finest cars we have owned and we enjoy every aspect of the vehicle. We purchased the Pearl White Murano SL with a sunroof and DVD entertainment system. The only regret I now have about this vehicle is that I didn't get Navigation. However, I do have that in my 2005 Nissan Murano SE.
