Used 2009 Nissan Maxima Consumer Reviews
Great Car; large engine=a bit lower mpg
This is my third Max; had the first one in 1989, and 2000. Love Consumer Reports, but they are dead wrong complaining about light steering at low speeds. THAT is one of the features that enables this car to maneuver easily. Driving around town, however, I am only getting about 19.5 (avg of -30 mph). Started to go cheap, but when compared, the features of the SV far outweigh the S for the $. Had a 2006 VW Passat Sports6, and while the Max doesn't drive as tight as that, it is far more comfy, and I don't anticipate living at the dealer's service facility for minor stuff that = a thousand cuts.
Problems with the Maxima
I bought the Nissan Maxima because I had thought that Nissan had a great name. The car had a stunning interior and great overall design, but I'm barely getting 20 mpg for normal half freeway half highway driving. Also the brakes are always making noise and every time I take the car in they charge me $200 to change the brakes on a brand new car. This car is smaller than camry/altima and I will never buy a Nissan again. DO your research before you buy this car, A lot of people will tell you it's not worth the price.

Four Door Fun
I have had this car nearly five months and love it. It is gorgeous to look at. I get tons of compliments on its styling. It is fun to drive, very intuitive and sporty while feeling like a luxury car. My previous vehicle was a Jaguar and I am not disappointed in my Maxima. Love the control panel. It is easy to read and use. The iPod integration is excellent. I find myself wanting to go places just to drive my car. I have not had any problems with it. My only complaint is that I am only averaging 18 miles to the gallon in mostly city driving. I have taken road trips with four adults in hilly terrain. All adults were comfortable the entire time. Truly a four door gem!! Very versatile car.
Great Car, BUT...
Ive owned many Maximas and all were good cars (94, 97, 98, 2002). But this one is the best Maxima yet! However, with all that there is a down side with this car. As was the case with my old 2002 MAX, this one seems not to have a good sense of direction. The steering doesnt stay straight and tends to wonder around left-right based on the road crown and irregularities. There was also a strong pull to the right that was partially fixed by the dealer swapping the wheels from left to right sides. If I knew that the 09 would have a similar steering issues as my old 2002, I would have gone for a different car. Other than that, I have no complaint so far (5K miles).
Great car!
We traded in our 2007 Maxima for the 2009 SV model. It was pricier than we would have liked but the base models were not close to our '07 SE model. This car has the power and handling that I would expect from such a car. This car is fun to drive everyday to work and on the weekends. I think this has to be the best Maxima ever. I just hope they don't change too many things on the 2010 model.
