Bought 1 yr old with 40k, 10 yrs later with 210k all I have had to do was replace rubber, pads, the occasional caliper, and the starter. Switches and gauges all still functioning normally, but intermittently lose console lighting for AC/Radio and the antenna motor died. Fun to drive with plenty of power, I only wish I had gotten the manual transmission.

Purchased a 99’ Maxima SE limited edition brand new in 1999. Gave it to my daughter in 2015 with 168000km on it. She drove it for a few years and the gave it to her son. He sold it with 260000 km on it. Missed it so much I bought the same vehicle in a different color in 2017 and am still driving it today. 23 year old car and running like new. No major repairs at all. Replaced 1 rear break caliper and 1 tailpipe when I bought it. It already had the coil packs replaced under warranty years ago. No issues since. Replaced spark plugs, fuel filter and pcv valve 2 years ago. Regular synthetic oil changes. Never changed transmission fluid. Usual maintenance. Replaced tires last year. Will drive it till either it dies or I die. Last maxima imported and assembled in Japan. Gen 4 was the best Maxima made!!

Nissan's Best in a reliable family sport sedan

Accelerates like a scalded cat, corners like it's on rails, stops on a dime with good tires, even 18 years later. Reliability - it's 18 years old and I've spent about $3000 on repairs other than basic wear and tear. Sunroof has never leaked, still silent as it opens and works well. Bose stereo has never had a problem other than the tape deck died about 2 years ago, but I don't have many tapes anyway. Update: 7/2018 - Shortly after writing this review, had some expensive repairs. At 20 years old from date of manufacture, had several electrical system failures (alternator died, then distribution connections, then the starter), then the transmission had issues with reverse. Finally, the air conditioning system died in July in NC, it was time to retire her. Still miss shocking expensive sports cars with that old but quite fun Z engine.

3 year review

This is my second Maxima. The first I kept for 12 years and the engine ran beautifully until the day I traded her in for my current Max. The smoothness of the engine with all its power is my favorite perk. The car has never failed to start. I have the Bose sound system and it is great. The black color still comes up with a great shine. Interior is a bit spartan, however but instrument panel is easy to locate.

I had put 17,000 miles on this car,it has 67,000 miles on it so far. Problems: 1)Nissan Ignition Immobilizer system failed(car would not start)($ 140) 2)Fake interior wood trim started to deteriorate due to ultraviolet radiation from the Sun($ 235 online). 3)Rough idle,I will probably have to replace ALL the six fuel injectors which cost about $800. My parents own a '99 Suzuki Esteem and a '99 Honda Accord EX V6 for more than two years and NEVER had a single problem with them, that's what I call reliability.(The Honda Accord needs no major maintenance until 100,000 miles).
