Worth every penny
The moment I drove this car I bought it. It has stunning looks and handling, awesome exhaust note and the head turning appeal. Yes my top leaks but a small price to pay for such a exciting car. I have 93,000 on it and all original parts, I have never had a more reliable car. I drive this car every day and it never gets old I recommend this car to anyone who wants a sexy sport convertible that gets great gas mileage.
Fun to drive but it leaks!
This was a great car and it was a lot of fun to drive with the top down. although, I live in Florida and you would think I would have the top down all the time, but I didn't! With the humidity down here, I would need the AC on and with how rain here is so unpredictable, it would leak through the soft top, it was so annoying!

I love it forever
This is really good car. Since I was a kid, I fell in love with it. Now I am going to keep this car. This is a classic race car.
Warning!
Try to get parts for this car . Some are made of pot metal, they break and dealers do not have replacements. The car looks nice if you can hold it together without duct tape.
Buyers Beware!!!!
I bought this car, thinking it would be a nice reliable ride. Another plus was that I thought it was imported; boy was I wrong. I soon discovered that the top leaked like a river (2 days after purchase), and the transmission shifted erratically. My mechanic said these cars are disasters (engine leaks, failures, etc.); however, I gave it a chance, but before I traded, I knew the tranny was getting ready to explode. I also had a problem maintaining the oil level in the car. I would not recommend this car to anyone who needs a completely reliable vehicle or who doesn't like to take a shower on his/her way to work or school.
Not the best
The car looks great and is fun to drive on the highway but my top leaks so bad whenever it rains somewhat hard. I've had it is to be fixed 3 times and it still leaks and my driver side window keep coming loose leaving a gap between the large window and smaller back window. Plus it being so low leaves it victim to steep driveways and any type of pot hole.
Fun in the summer
So far so good after a month. however, i bought it used and it has experienced a slight leak with the top up. purchased a 4 yr. warranty with it, to cover annoyances like this. definitely attracts peoples eye(black w/ black top), especially the ladies down the shore. recommend it for fun driving, tight turns, sound system, convenient top device, and exterior appearance. cons - the GS model overall performance is average at best but pretty much expected that from about 142HP&tight fit in the backseat. we'll see how it handles in the winter but for now i love it.
The Honeymoon is over
When I first got this car I was absolutely in love with it! The colors are sharp and the style looks sleek. It was great to drive until about a month ago. The clutch went out at 46K. It cost about $1200 to fix. The CD player keeps spitting out my CD's it won't even take the new ones. The roof has leaked since I bought it.
Great with the top down, but the roof...
This car is a ton of fun to drive with the top down, and in bright red it is an attention getter! However, I too have had roof leakage problems, and the dealership is saying it isn't covered under the bumper to bumper exteneded warranty we purchased.
Excellent car
This car is hott. Great on gas and on speed. It makes you look twice at it.awesome!!
No other car like it
this car is a blast to own, i had a few issues with the conv. top but the warrenty covered that. In three years I had absolutely no mechanical problems. I have just traded it in on a 03 eclipse GTS and it broke my heart to let this one go. If your thinking of bying a 99 eclipse just make sure you that any modifications were done properly. If you happen to buy a white eclipse with a black top in Denver or it's suburbs tell her I said hi.
I wouldn't pay 5 cents for another Mitis
This car has been a complete nightmare from the very beginning. It burns about 1-2 quarts of oil between every 3000 mile oil change. The dealership claims this is NORMAL! How many other people do you know who add oil like that? Service has been extremely slow and unproductive and full of excuses. Overall the car is built cheap. I've also had problem with the antenna sticking. The oil problems have resulted in engine issues, ect. I would NEVER buy this car or another Mitisbushi again. I have a friend with the same vehicle and he constantly has problem too.
what a chick magnet
this is definetely a chick magnet. Perfect for the college guy who likes to drive a fun car that sounds incredible. Still powerful at four years old- even without the turbo. would have liked to see the all wheel drive stay around for another year, but no complaints here.
FUN TO DRIVE!!
My 99 spyder is awesome!! it's really fun to drive and it gets a LOT of attention!!everytime i go somewhere on a hot day, i always take the long way there!!
Fun to go topless & can go swimming too!
Fun to drive with the top down, but like the others, major roof leaks on the drivers side! All parts have been replaced, weatherstripping, etc, but nothing's worked. Seems the top doesn't fit snug (may have warped?) when shut & water seeps in & pools in the molding piece & pours out of the drivers side top latch & where the molding meets the drivers side window. The last time it rained I had a major flood & am still drying out the car! The dealership is having it repaired by a convertible top roof leak specialist on 3/31/03, well, we'll see (I'm not holding my breath!)
Cheap, Cheap
I would never recommend anyone to buy a Mitsubishi. They are cheaply made and cost a fortune to fix. Everything breaks from the door handles to the timing belt (which most people have said they have never had to replace, but in a Mitsubishi you have to).
I guess I'm the lucky one...
Bought the car off a lease last October and it was almost showroom condition. It's red with a tan top, tan leather and an Alpine stereo system. Thankfully I have not had any problems with my top leaking. I live in Florida and deal with some nasty thunderstorms almost every afternoon. The performance from the 2.4L is average at best. The top feature is very nice and the car looks great with it up or down. I get about 25 mpg city and 31 mpg highway. The back seat is useless.
