Used 1998 Mercury Sable Sedan Consumer Reviews
205,000 Miles and still going.
Purchased as a used rental car in 99. I need it to go another 80,000 miles 'til i retire and i think it will. Only recurring problems are brake calipers. Replaced both rear. Comfortable, dependable and good passing power.
Nice car at lower mileage
Car was great when we first bought it, but then little things started going wrong. Wacky things. Replaced transmission mount twice, replaced numerous sensors. Anti-theft light continually blinks, now even when driving. I really like that one key opens everything. Has never left us stranded, but little things keep going bad. I just don't feel that it's dependable anymore. Priced too high for what you get and doesn't hold value.

Been a Great Car
This car was a fleet car when I purchased it in 2001. Although it had 170,000 miles on it at the time, it had been meticulously maintained. I actually am one of those "strange" people who loved the look of it. I still love the look. It's been a great car, and I've put 40,000 more miles on it. Finally had to put in a $2,200 transmission in it last year, but I now have 205,000 miles on it and plan to keep it til it literally falls apart!! Good gas mileage, very roomy inside, very dependable car. I actually consider buying another one. This car just seemed to "fit" me.
Not too shabby
strong performance, especially w/24v dohc duratec motor. Very roomy inside for a midsize car (equivilant to full size import though). Comfortable road trip or small family car. Decent gas Mileage for size (near 25 on freeway)
Very reliable Sable
In 1995 I was attracted by the styling of the Sable and Taurus. I like the futuristic aerodynamics shape, it is still looking updated in 2005. Never boring interior. But I was surprise by the excellent reliability. There were not a single problem for 7 years. The Sable is very stable on the road with the firm suspensions, very little float, good for high speed and lane changes. Road holding is very good except on snow. Kind of like driving a train. Very little lean in turns. A lot of car and accessories for the low price. No charge leather, auto air condition, moon roof and air filtration system, heated rear mirrors, California emissions for ULEV,etc. Very roomy inside with a large truck.
