1992 Mercury Capri analysis
My wife and I purchased the vehicle new in 1992. She often drove it to work and once we drove the vehicle as far as N. Carolina for a brief vacation. We never had a major problem with the vehicle. We had minor problem with the convertible top which in the down position, caused a small tear on each side of the top where the metal rubbed against the convertible top. Still runs and looks great.
One Fun Car
The Mercury Capri XR2 is a quick, nimble, and most of all a fun car to drive! A major up and down side to the Capri is that there is/was not many of them on the road so finding parts can be a problem. After 150,000 miles the engine, transmission, and turbo are still in great shape! (Although the clutch was replaced at 135,000 Miles) Watch for cracked or distorted rear windows on the soft top as they can be expensive to replace. Some electrical system problems can arise (Blower motor, MAF, headlight motors) Rubber gear shift linkages are prone to wear at or around 100,000 miles. (5 speed) Keep in mind that this is a sports car with McPherson strut up front and it will ride like a tank!
red rocket 🚀
i bought this car when i was fresh out of a bad relationship, imagine uma thurman (pulp fiction style), cruisin’ round town in this baby. yeah. that was me. 🤣 the few years i drove her, was definitely the most fun i ever had in a car. she’s a solid girl and never let me down. the only problems that ever arose were due to me not understanding how to keep up a car, not because she was faulty. except those dang flip-up lights! anyway. i still have her, though she’s just sitting. i have hopes of driving her again, just have to convince the hubby not to sell her because “those days are over” and “it’s not safe for the two year old” nevermind the fact that i was rear ended in this baby, and the woman driving the Honda- totaled her car, and miss capri and i drove away with a small paint scrape, and a sore back. she’s solid. that’s all you have to know. make sure you have a good soft top, or buy a replacement. they’re not too bad, under $400. but i live in the PNW and mine is a little ratty and it gets cold and wet. my dream is to fix her up, paint her baby blue, put a cream leather soft top, and cream leather seats, put some nice speakers and a bitchin’ radio in her, and just cruise on down to california. 🤙🏼 love this baby. literally have never been attached to a car the way i love my 1991 mercury capri 🥰

Love it too much.
I bought my Capri in 1998. What a fun car to drive. I have had many convertibles and none seem to have that "Fun Factor". I have had minimal problems with my '94. Dependable Mazda engine keeps it running smooth. A real bargin at todays prices. With the limited production run of the Capri's (approx 55,000), and fuel costs going through the roof, this is one roadster that will be rising in price soon. Great car to fix up since it is so inexpensive. Get one and enjoy!
Almost perfect
At 104,000 my Capri still runs well and offers a fun ride to and from work. It's best in the summer, when I drop the top and take a twisty road home. Not big on accelleration. It understeers at the limit, but at 8/10ths you really can't tell. I'd buy a new Turbo if they still made 'em.
