Used 2014 Mercedes-Benz GL-Class Consumer Reviews
2014 mercedes gl 450
If you are looking for a lemon or a garbage buy one . I own a 2014 . Within 3 years I spend $26000 to keep it runnin until the engine die completely and the dealer ask me $33000 to put a new engine on it. All kind of problems from new cylinder head , camshaft, valve, water pump, radiator, coil, heater core, air shocks, cooling hose, when I thought I was finish the engine die. I come to find out all of them give the same problem. Soon or later you will need a new engine. Be aware ask any shop that fix those trucks. Any salvage yard wants $12000 for a used engine. Do your homework before you buy any of those lemon truck. 2013 to 2017 and good luck if you own one.

2013 Mercedes GL450 -- Hidden Gem in Big SUV's
We purchased a low-mile CPO vehicle from Ft. Lauderdale Mercedes. The GL450 is a real deal compared to competing vehicles such as Lexus LX and GM Suburbans. Much nicer, better ride and more comfortable.

You will think this is SUV is awesome if you haven't driven a lexus ever...
I own 2014 GL550 for more than a year now. At best, this is an OK SUV. This is my second and last GL. MB does not have the reliability, built quality or attention to detail to warrant the price tag and more than $10k premium over other SUVs. GL is annoyingly unreliable. Keyfob stops working when it gets cold. You can get stranded outside your car in a cold night if your keyfob happens to get cold for whatever reason. Disctronic plus and Presafe features stop working in the middle of driving when it's rainy or snowy outside, when you need them most. I reported to MB customer service and dealership to no await. Other owners seem to have similar annoying problems they get used to. Why pay 100k?
Steer Away From This Lemon
I just sold my 2013 GL 550 after 10 years and 102,000 miles. I had purchased it new. The good news is that it drives like a dream on the highway. I've made many long trips and it's as steady as a train on rails. It's powerful, has a smooth ride, and corners very well for a large car. I also really like the way it looks. The 2013 model was a new version and I ordered it without driving it first. After it arrived, I brought it in for service saying these was something wrong with the throttle response because there was too much lag between pressing the pedal and getting movement from the car. They said it was operating normally. I learned to live with it, but God help you if you need to dodge across traffic from a standstill. Nothing happens for the first second or so while the turbo wakes up. My wife's non-turbo ML is much more responsive off the line, though the GL can make up for lost time after it gets motivated. Mechanically, mine was a lemon even though I drove it responsibly. I had suspension work done three times, which is VERY expensive. Two of those times the suspension collapsed and I had to limp it to the dealer like a buck wagon. The transfer case also failed, which should never happen. The dealer was apologetic, but didn’t offer any discount other than finding a cheaper used one ($3,400) because surely IT wouldn’t fail. I had a variety of other failures including a turbo coolant leak, failed fuel injector, failed A/C compressor, leaky A/C core, failed emission bank that caused a rough idle, and failed back seat control. The car also got 15-16 mpg ON THE HIGHWAY and only about 12 in the city. It also wore through the Continental tires every 20,000 miles. My replacement car is not a Mercedes and I do not plan to ever own another Mercedes. Based on my experience, I’d say make sure you can afford a lot of maintenance costs before you buy this car.

Bought new. Great vehicle!
The GL was a new model when we bought it new. We maxed out the options and glad that we did. The cameras, Dystronic, etc. are great and provide excellent safety. We're spoiled. Update in 2020: We still use the GL daily with approx 95,000 miles on it. It's my wifes car and she loves it. Can't get her to consider a new one!
