Mostly good-but bad paint
This car has been a lot of fun. Fast, handles nice, looks great. However, it has had some things go wrong for only 51K miles. The major things were CV joints were replaced, and a gasket blew causing a $1400 bill. The clearcoat on the paint is completely shot, but the AZ sun is pretty tough on paint. Also, the power antenna broke. However, all the other power accessories still work.
Hell uva car
Bought this car new in Aug of '94. I've always been impressed by the performance of this car considering it only has 118 HP. With 120,000 miles on it, it shows no sign of letting up. Besides a few interior noises and an external AC compressor noise, the car has held up well. The only repairs I've had to have were both CV joints ($240 total), a clutch ($250) at 110,000 miles, trunk lifts ($50), a tune up ($120), and I had the timing belt changed at 80,000 miles ($300). Only this after 8 years of City stop and go driving.
My first car
This is my first car, and it has gotten me through my first year of college back and forth 20 miles each way 5 days a week. It is really reliable, it's quick and light, and very fun to drive. For it being a '94 it still has that up to date look. Mazda really did well with this model.
I cried at her Funeral!
I had dreamed of getting this car long before I purchased it. I was attracted by its looks, and was pleasantly surprised by its performance and reliability. After reading several other reviews, I realize was lucky that I didn't have the leaky A/C or peeling paint problems that other owners had. The extent of my maintenance obligations were an oil change every 3K miles. I did have to replace the CV boots, but luckily, I only paid for that once since the first replacement was under warranty. Unfortunately, she was totaled when she got T-boned in the spring of '03. She gave her life for mine*sniff, sniff* as I walked away unscathed. I haven't owned a car with such classic style since. MX-6s rule!
Hoping for two more years
Bought new in Nov. 93 and have dumped alot of money into it: clear coat shot (a trend for '94,Probes also) new trans.(auto.this year have a major shift problem which Mazda won't admit to along with the paint problem) CV boot, water pump crankshaft pos sensor(part of distributor) O2 sensors, power ant. trunk lifts and numerous other repairs.
