Word's best SUV
Just last week, we picked the Soul Crystal Red CX9 GT with black interior. I didn't have guts to go with a red. I have to thank my wife, as she persuaded me to go with the red. Now, I realize it is a gorgeous color and gives a great modern look. It emits different shades of red, depending upon the lighting condition. The chrome piece in the front and the one in the back are a masterpiece. There are chrome accents in the sides and this is one of the best looking vehicles on the road. Even the closing of the door gives a premium feeling. The black interior is phenomenal. No plastic, plush interior with piano black and aluminum like materials in the console. Another suv, that I test drove had hard plastics all around. Then you start the car and amazed by the driver-centric features like the heads-up display, control knob, radar cruise control, etc. Heads-up display alone is enough to justify a CX 9 over other mainstream three row suvs. Speed, blind sport monitoring info, speed limits, lane info, navigation info all come in the heads up display. Naturally I only drive looking at the HUD and my neck doesn't hurt, as I don't have to look down or to the sides that often. The Bose center-point surround system is good. I only stream from my phone. It sounds great with a good base. Tried aha radio and the quality is good too. Navigation system is OK but not that user friendly. Hope Mazda will bring android auto soon, so that I can just use the google maps instead. And now the driving. It accelerates very fast from traffic lights. Usually the car in the next lane will far behind, when you have reached the posted speed. Funtastic. If you are thinking of buying a 3 row, do not wait. Just go and buy one. Bet, you will be delighted like me.

love the car except....
Love the car. Much better than my 2010 Mazda6. I have only one issue so far - driver's seating position. I am 6,4 about 210 pounds. I am still to find a comfortable position. I think that comfort can be easily improved if the telescopic steering wheel could be pulled a bit more towards driver. Other than that, the car drives and looks great! We are making 24-26 mpg, combined - 70% highway, 30% city. We test drove Toyota Highlander, and although Toyota put more thought into practicality and space designed particularly for families, I simply didn't like the driving feel. Reminded me of the van we had. Mazda's storage, compared to Highlander, isn't great, but in my opinion is still plenty for a family of four. The car's style and drive feel won. update: 40,000 miles. Runs great. No issues to report. Just regular maintenance. Wonderful car.

CX-9 -Best 3row-
My wife and I recently got our CX-9 Touring AWD w/premium package, and I’ve gotta say I’m thoroughly impressed. I was sort of iffy about it at first, since we have always hated automatics, but after the first test drive, we were sold. This is by far the best feeling automatic transmission ever. No jerking, awkward and inconvenient downshifts (thanks mostly to that crazy amount of low RPM torque, I know), or that weird floaty feeling that’s very hard to describe that would always make me car sick in other automatics. The engine is fantastic too. I test drove the Highlander and Pilot before getting the CX-9, and those two felt sluggish during acceleration even though they had 6-cylinder engines. They were turds compared to the Skyactiv 4-cyl. I’ve played around with all the settings and features in it, the MZD Connect, moonroof, traction/stability, the butt toaster, climate control, etc, every button and switch in there, and I have 0 complaints. No need for Android Auto/Apple Car Play, the current HMI system is very user friendly and pretty much perfect. I also tried sitting in every seat and row. At 5’7”, average build, and setting every seat at a position I would set it at, I fit very comfortably in every seat in all 3 rows. So, as long as every person in your family isn’t like 6’5”, they should fit. The Pilot had great space as well, but the interior itself was bland as hell and not very user friendly. The Highlander, on the other hand, I busted my shin and shoulder trying to get into the 3rd row (and getting out of the 2nd row with the seat adjusted to accommodate a 3rd row passenger my size, might I add), and my head was also bumping the ceiling while sitting back there. Lastly, the CX-9 is the first “tank” we’ve ever gotten, and it definitely doesn’t drive like one, unlike the other two mentioned. It’s like a Mazda3, only higher off the ground, which you don’t even notice that until a sedan rolls up next to you lol. Anyways, it’s definitely worth every penny, and you should most definitely give it a go if you’re looking to get a SUV. Heck, even if you aren’t, give Mazda a try as a brand. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed no matter which model you try out. ;)

Traded Pilot for CX-9
I was looking for a replacement for my 2016 Honda Pilot Touring since it did not have blind spot monitoring, the adaptive cruise control was abrupt, lane departure intervention too aggressive, and I hated the AutoStop feature. I looked into and test drove the Acadia Denali, Toyota Highlander Platinum, Nissan Pathfinder Platinum, Volvo XC60, Lexus RX350, and the 2018 Mazda CX-9 Grand Touring. The CX-9 was the clear winner with better pricing, great standard features, comfortable wrap around seats, great power, smooth and quiet ride, and most importantly, the most fun to drive. The CX-9 heads up display is better than the Lexus or Volvo because the CX-9 displays the blind spot monitoring info on the screen as well as the speed, adaptive cruise speed, and navigation directions. And, the heads up display is STANDARD on the Grand Touring trim and up. I love the heated steering wheel and heated seats, and my passengers love the heated seats too. The sound system is great, and the infotainment system is the most ergonomic and easy to use system out there. I never though too much about the zoom zoom commercials till I drove the Mazda CX-9, but now that I have one, I totally understand.

Awesome vehicle
Absolutely love the ride quality and quality of interior. Feels like an upscale European car with fit and finish as well as layout of controls. Was deciding between pilot and cx9 and cx9 was hands down winner. They only gripes I have are with the location of climate controls which are partially blocked by the shift knob and controls. The rear cargo space is also limited with three rows up but most cars I looked at had same issues. Haven't really checked on gas mileage and safety and reliability are too new to comment on but overall very happy with car.

Almost 5 starts BUT...
Replaced one of our BMWs with CX-9 as we need 3-row SUV occasionally. Love: windshield-projected display, how it drives. Good: steering feeling is exceptional, engine and transmission are good, 3rd row is good enough for kids, a lot of techs that work pretty well. Weird: when you shut the engine it turns off the audio and Bluetooth, no light in the glove box, the Bose surround mode is awful so I disabled it. Bad: black leather interior gets too hot in FL (compare to my other BMW), AC not very powerful but very noisy when on full, backup camera is so-so. Personal bad: the left foot rest is located too close to the driver and unlike BMW you cannot straight out your left leg (in Mazda the rest is closer to the driver than the pedals, in BMW the pedals are closer). Makes a big difference not in a good way. If not the issue with the left foot rest I would give it 5. My wife doesn’t have that issue, she is not using the foot rest at all.

2018 CX-9 Signature on Family Trip
With only 200 miles on the odo, I took my new CX-9 on a 700 mile trip (1400 RT). Me up front and three kids in the back. I've made this drive in a XLE Sienna a half dozen times. The Mazda crushed it by comparison. No fatigue. Made the trip seem half as long as usual due to the quiet interior, overall comfort, heads up display and tech (adaptive cruise, lane assist, etc). Then when we arrived, it was a blast to drive. The driving experience is great for the size of its vehicle. Fun family vehicle (with budget in mind) was my primary buying criteria. Originally wanted a 6 speed manual Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sahara due to the unmatched fun factor. Wife nixed that. At first I was bummed, but then I found the Mazda and its indeed fun to drive, albeit in a completely different way than the Jeep. There are a ton great vehicles in the CX-9's segment, but for the money, the Mazda is refined, great for bombing around turns on short trips, and super comfy on long rides. Overall, very pleased with the purchase. Only regret is that the 2019 models are rumored to have CarPlay.

Large enough for me!
I bought my CX9 12 months ago and I’ve been super happy with the vehicle. Great outside style and the interior looks close to a luxury vehicle. It drives extremely well for an SUV/Crossover. My wife has an Audi Q7 and my Mazda drives much better (not as heavy and light on its feet). Only knock is that it is not as big as some other three row SUVs but it MPG is better than those vehicle so that’s the compromise you need to make. I hardly ever (never) have used the third row so it’s basically a two row for me. I bought a rubber trunk cover and primarily use two rows. Great vehicle for the price! Great value!
Drives two sizes smaller
Love the torque, power is decent. But the connection to the driver is unbelievable in this class. I was prepared to go to Audi, Volvo, MDX or similar, but the quality of this Mazda was startling. My first from this maker. It's early days so reliability from the turbo is something to watch. Unlike my V8 Jeep Grand Cherokee where the raw power was apparent and tempting (albeit noisy) this AWD feels refined, subtle and puts a satisfied smile on my face (the Jeep was a teenage wide open grin). I guess this is a grown-ups SUV. Terrific Mazda !

Great styling and performs perfectly
Interior is just beautiful. Handles fantastic. Electronics are very intuitive. GPS without Android Auto is lacking but the head up display is sweet. I really like that it is a pure Japanese car. Been driving for a few months now and my only complain is that there can be some small amount of noise from the brake pads within the caliper. I have been told by others the same complaint. Mazda confirmed it with me that the pad clearance is tight and sometimes on rough pavement you can hear the pad tap the caliper. With my car once the pads got broke in around 25K miles it stopped. The vehicle is still very smooth Drive and the engine and transmission performs wonderfully. No regrets and the car is a great value

Great Vehicle Except for Paint
I have generally been very pleased with my Mazda CX-9 Signature vehicle. After owning Hyndais for 16 years, we switched to Mazdas. The styling and handling are great. The one issue I have with the vehicle is the paint. Paid extra hundreds of dollars for the Machine Gray paint that Mazda touts as innovative. While it may be innovative, it is definitely not durable. Within four months there were numerous chips along the front of the vehicle. I have never had a vehicle chip s profusely in such a short period of time. Also do not have this chipping on our 2017 Mazda 6 which has standard paint. The paint just does not seem durable. When I took the vehicle in a six months for a service I pointed out the chips to the dealership service advisers. One service adviser even pointed out what he thought were a couple of paint imperfections. But Mazda representatives said this was normal wear and tear and would do nothing to repair. If this is normal wear and tear on a vehicle that is not even a year old, then the upgraded paint is not worth the cost. Unfortunate that Mazda will advertise its special paint but not stand behind it. An Update as of June 2019. I contacted Mazda USA Customer Service about this issue. Had some extended communications with the customer service representative, who was quite considerate and helpful to deal with. Communicated regularly and kept me informed of the progress and challenges. But in the end, in April 2019, Mazda agreed to repaint the front of my CX-9 provided that I would then put on a protective film clear bra at my expense. All was completed and I am pleased that Mazda decided to stand by their product and work with a multi Mazda vehicle customer. After 18 months, am still please with the Mazda CX-9; great around town and long trips are a pleasure.

Nice car, vibrates above 65mph
Update 18,000 miles. Car has been totaled. Got hit at about 35-40mph on driver rear tire, spun me sideways in the road and the other jerk behind him hit my front passenger side door. Me, I walked away, so the car did its job. Update at 12,000 miles: No change in vibration, still the same. Others have it and no one found the smoking gun yet on the root cause. No other issues to date. I cross shopped extensively and felt that for 10 grand less the CX9 was a great deal. Quiet on the highway, smooth ride with 18" wheels, and nicely equipped. My only large complaint is that above 65mph it has a vibration. I went back and drove a GT and T model to see if it was a difference in tire size, but that wasn't the case. All three cars had the same thing to some degree. My suggestion is drive this car above 65mph on the highway, put the driver visor straight down and check that out and the rear view mirror and drive mirror to see if they vibrate, mine does! I can't really feel it in the wheel or car otherwise, if the passenger seat is empty that does vibrate as well. Radio is good, I love the dial interface, so much better than a touch screen while in transit. AC seems fine so far, just wish the HVAC controls were higher on the dash and not hidden behind the bin/shifter. Heads up display is great, not sure how I lived without that before. For me the hit is too large to trade this in, so going to try to live with vibrating things at least for a year and two and then maybe trade out if worse or the same. Also, the car rides much better on the 18's instead of the 20's but that comes down to person preference. I get 22-24 in mixed driving and 25-28 on the highway. Oh, and my local dealer's service department didn't want to even check tire balances for me for the vibration, this is the same dealer who failed to provide a sale price when I contacted them, so dealer support if so far crappy. Too bad for them, because I would have gone to them for service, not anymore.

Always wanted one, I'm not disappointed!
After a year of ownership and 1700 miles on the road, its time for review my 2018 Mazda CX-9 Signature. Always wanted one since it came out in 2016 but had to hold back and patiently wait for owner's reviews to pile in. Just like most owners, I am not disappointed! The CX-9 in Signature trim is very refined in every aspect, as it drives in typical Mazda fashion and looks / feels well-built. The cabin is so quiet and the materials are top notch. The fit / finish is amazing and the door shuts solid. Technology / entertainment / connectivity suits my needs. Most of all, its still made in Japan! The CX-9 fits my family of four as the third row is always folded down for cargo. I am 6'5", 230lbs and sits comfortably on the driver seat with lots of head and leg room to spare! Overall, I highly recommend this vehicle and this trim to any defensive driver like me who still finds pleasure in driving.

BUY IT!
Go ahead - drive the competition first, then drive the CX-9. You will end up with the Mazda. Truly, this is THE best driving 3 row SUV on the market. It’s true that the 3rd row is slightly more cramped than its competitors and there is slightly less cargo room. The upsides? It drives like it’s carved from a block of granite yet the ride is incredibly smooth and bolted down. NO squeaks or rattles. Interior noise levels are remarkably low. Interior materials are second to none and rival the Q5’s, let alone the Pilot or Highlander. Plenty of power from the turbo 4. I wouldn’t call the acceleration “stellar,” but it’s more than adequate with almost no perceptible turbo lag. Possibly the ONLY two things Mazda could improve upon? 1) The resolution on the rear camera - It’s granular and not nearly as crisp as the competition. and 2) The lane keep assist feature. Although it alerts you effectively when you are departing your lane, it does a pretty poor job of centering you within the lane. Contrary to most automotive journalists, I think this particular safety nanny should be more aggressive. Mazda knows it has a superior product and they have priced it as such; virtually no incentives to buy or lease it. But trust me - this vehicle is worth it.

Luxury Car Features at Mainstream Prices
Finally landed on this as a replacement to an aging XC90. My wife isn’t much of a car person so we didn’t seriously consider the upscale Japanese brands. There are bigger crossovers, like the Pilot and Highlander, but we liked the styling on this. Honestly, if you covered up the badges on the inside and outside of this car, you might not see a difference with something that cost 30 or 40 percent more. Yes, it’s that good. It handles and steers like a Mazda and I’ve never seen so much low-end grunt from a 4-cylinder. The interior is beautiful, feels and looks expensive - love that the second row seating adjusts fore and aft a good deal, so you have nice leg room most of the time unless you need to scoot the seats forward to make a little room for the third row when in use. The Grand Touring has pretty much all the technology goodies one could want - and the heads-up display on the windshield is worth the price of admission. I have a 2013 Mercedes GL that is more luxurious but lacks much of the technology on the Mazda. Only real complaints are with the infotainment. There is no Apple Car Play (yet) and the graphics on the GPS system are about the worst I have seen - monochromatic and lacking in resolution.
SUV with great driving dynamics, but bad OEM tires
The Mazda CX-9 is a really sharp-looking 3-row SUV with handling and driving dynamics that put it above most others in its class. Acceleration feels pretty nice from the 4-cyl turbo too, though it feels especially susceptible to heat soak in hot weather which reduces performance. My main complaint is Mazda's choice of Bridgestone Ecopia tires as they perform very poorly in wintry weather. Every roundabout and turn requires me to practically crawl through them in order to get through safely which is in stark contrast to my experience in other vehicles with better all-season tires that inspired much more confidence in snow/slush. Mazda's AWD system is pretty good, but it can't compensate for all situations where the Ecopias otherwise perform so poorly and even unsafely in the winter. The Ecopias that came on my CX-9 have really marred my experience with the vehicle in this wintry weather we've had this year. Reviews of the SUV-specific Bridgestone Ecopias online agree that they perform poorly in the snow. It's like Mazda gave me all this great hiking gear for traversing a mountain but then handed me ballerina slippers for my feet. This is primarily why I gave safety 3 stars as the vehicle has lots of safety features, but bad tires render a lot of those features less meaningful. Bridgestone is at fault for making bad tires, but it'z Mazda's fault for putting them on the CX-9. The infotainment is okay at best, it's pretty sluggish to boot up but works fine after that. The rearview camera is pretty basic and it'd be nice if the guide lines moved to show where the vehicle is going as the steering wheel is turned. Negatives aside, this vehicle really feels smaller than it is when driving it and that helps it feel more sporty and really highlights Mazda's focus on the driving experience, which I really appreciate. The CX-9 has been a wonderful family vehicle and the third row has been nice for occasional use when I have family in town. It's overall a great family car that drives very nicely but it also comfortable for longer highway trips. Any time the weather is warmer, the CX-9 shines, but I recommend that you really think about the cost of a better set of tires before buying, especially if you live someplace where it snows.

Spider Cracks on screens
I have owned 6 (out of 7 total) Mazda cars, and yet they don't seem to care to lose me as a customer due to faulty equipment in their cars. I have major "Spider Cracks" in both the left and right top corners of the navigation screen that continue to spread, creating larger blind spots while in reverse. This is an issue that Mazda is aware of and impacts many models from 2014 until 2019. Even though this may not be considered a "safety feature" in it's traditional form, it has become common practice to rely on this feature while reversing the vehicle. Much like additional airbags may not be required, if they are, they should be fixed when they are proven to be faulty. Both the local dealer(Roger Beasley Austin North) and MazdaUSA refused to cover the cost of fixing the issue even though they are aware it is faulty. There is even a Service Notice that was put out by NHTSA that discusses this issue and my model (2018 CX-9) is included, however I have been repeatedly told my VIN # does not qualify. It seems that depending on who you talk to, some customer service agents will approve the fix while others will deny. Do you research before buying from this company, this is NOT just an isolated incident on a single model. If they are willing to throw away my brand loyalty of nearly 27 years, they truly don't care about their customers.
Good Family Mover wish I could give it 4
I bought my Mazda CX-9 Grand Touring in July 2018 and now that I have run it in for some time. I felt it important for me to write a review on Edmunds since I used their recommendations and customer references to buy my cars. What I like 1. Love the Heads Up Display (HUD) except some luxury cars none in their capacity have this. It provides me navigation and keeps me on speed check as the limits are visible on the display 2. Stable car and hugs the road. Feels very nice compared to the instability and bounce of other Japanese cars 3. Best 3rd Row seating among the mid size family SUVs I saw. I am 5’11 and about 190 Lbs can comfortably sit behind. About 2 members can sit comfortably 3. Love the entertainment system on Bose 4. Decent fuel economy 5. I have serviced my vehicle on time always as per schedule and had no major expenses or recall 6. Great seat heating and power options on second row Not so Good 1. The CX9 is very laggy when cold and at the initial start. Gets smooth and peppy as the turbo kicks in 2. I feel it is underpowered although the turbo tries to compensate and does a good job specially on Sports mode. I would have like an optional higher capacity 3. The OEM Bridgestone tires suck on snow and bad weather and the wear has been abnormally high compared to some of my other friends other make SUVs 4. I got the Mazda team to fit in the Apple / Android Car play and that has been quite slow to get loaded and is glitchy 5. Would have loved to have some vents for the 3rd row Overall I am happy with the running of the vehicle and it has not given me much of a problem. The dealer in my town is small and pretty bad. I service it at a large dealer about 15-20 miles away Update end of June 20 After 2 years with the car. I have the seat heating failing and glitches on infotainment. The dealer mentioned that they cannot fix it and that’s the most heat it will generate. Now my drivers dealt heats much more and the passenger seat is lukewarm. A truck spit out a large stone on the frit and it cracked it. Took me two months to get an OEM replacement. Not had any issues with engine or performance till now. Knock on wood. Bottom line is that when its new its fine but when it starts getting old there are issues with reliability on tech and specially in the very areas where you paid more over the base model. My wife owns a Lexus and she has not a single issue even without complaints the dealer replaces stuff like mats etc routinely. I am beginning to feel it is worth the additional cost when I paid $45K for the original CX9 Grand Touring trim. It loses value fast and starts giving nagging problems. Mazda has lost a strong fan in me. I would reconsider getting a CX9

Love My New CX9
Wife has had several MX5's over the years. We have owned many mini vans but wanted to go to a SUV. After looking at several models, we went with the CX9 2018. So far the car has exceeded both of your expectations. There were a few things that was really new to us. First was the price. We have not paid this much for a car before. The second was all the extra features. Heated seats and steering wheel, head-up display, driver assist, and many more.

Best 3 row SUV for drivers
If you are looking for a great looking car that drives well and puts a smile on your face , then this car will meet your needs! Having driven European cars and having a bias against Japanese cars I wasn’t prepared for how much I would enjoy driving this car. Inside it looks and feels like an Audi, and I love the leather trim in the Signature. It doesn’t have the biggest cargo room, but I rarely need additional space. The third row is fine for kids and even adults. Bottom line this is a drivers car, which is fun to drive despite being an SUV!

Great Deal on a Dealer Car
We wanted a mid-size/3 row SUV for longer road trips to replace an aging and smaller Mercury Mariner, and found a great deal on the CX-9. This is a crowded segment, and I considered the Pilot, Highlander, and Explorer. While all are great vehicles the CX-9 just felt right. I found a 2018 Grand Touring that had been a dealer car and was being sold as a Certified Pre-Owned....the warranty deal is exceptional. Overall, other than a wiring harness/electrical problem (that was promptly repaired), the car has performed well. The 4cyl turbo performs very well on the steep mountain roads in my community, and It’s a pleasure to drive on the highway.

CX-9 #1
Never owned a Mazda before. I am a Jaguar/Land Rover guy. The CX9 Grand Touring was a pleasant surprise in handling and appearance. Amenities are good. Could use a little more cargo space and heat should be distributed around the steering wheel as opposed to just the side positions. If everything holds up to expectations , I would not hesitate to buy another one in the future. Good, solid vehicle with nice lines and the soul red color is eye catching!

1st Mazda
I’ve leased mostly Acuras over the past 18 years, and needed to shift because of personal budget changes. This CX9 fit the bill ( llterally and figuratively ). I got an amazing lease deal, and it’s a WONDERFUL car. One minor gripe I do have is the audio quality of the bluetooth connectivity when using the phone feature. Its very muffled. Other than that one small complaint, this CX9 comes highly recommended.

Mostly Satisfied
I purchased a new 2018 CX-9 Touring AWD in October 2018 and am writing this review 2 years later. The mileage is now 24,000. I purchased this car after careful consideration of multiple vehicles with the conclusion that this model made the most sense for my family. We needed a vehicle that could accommodate 7 passengers on occasion and that is why we chose the CX-9. The seats in the very rear work when you need them because of the very generous legroom in the second row. Second row passengers sit higher up than the driver/front passenger so they can pull the second row closer and allow more leg room for rear passengers. The real problem that everyone mentions with this car is the cargo area when the third row is occupied. There really is not much room, especially if you have a stroller and pack-n-play. Nonetheless I have done some long-distance drives with second row occupied and one of the third row seats down (other occupied), and have been able to accommodate 5 adults and a toddler in a car seat with all the accompanying luggage for a weekend. My family liked the CX-5 but we consider this car as a "stretch" CX-5 with more cargo area with the third row folded and the flexibility to take additional passengers when needed on occasion. In the end, our primary deciding factor for this car was the price. We paid $31,454 for a Touring AWD (without premium package) and the only option we got was the paint color. The MSRP for this vehicle was slightly over $37,000. We did not care about the sunroof, parking sensors, or rear window shades, but the base stereo is really lacking, so I regret not opting for the BOSE sound system, despite critical reviews I have read. Maybe in the future I will upgrade the speakers myself if that is possible. The infotainment system is also lacking, though it has been updated for 2021. The one we have is sluggish, though there are a great deal of settings that can be customized on the car. The other regret we have with this car is the buying experience. We did our research online and picked a dealer because they offered the car we wanted for the lowest price. When we got to the dealer, the car had 67 miles and it had been sitting on the lot for a year (possibly more - manufacture date 08/17 and we bought end of October 18). The dealer was surly when asked about this and even used foul language in front of us when we questioned him on the mileage (asking if the car was a demo or service loaner). Despite this, we needed the car for our family and decided to purchase anyways, so that is our fault for doing business with such rude people. Mazda could do a lot to improve the dealer purchase experience. Two years on, we still love the CX-9 comfort, performance (the huge amount of torque creates usable power that is appreciated daily), and styling. We live in a city and are averaging 21 MPG with lots of stop and go driving and very steep hills. I would recommend this car (especially the 2021 models with the updated infotainment system) to anyone - especially if you have a Mazda dealer with some sense of customer service.
Awesome car, buying process took way to long
I have been a Mazda fan and owned a lot of Mazda vehicles over the years, I will say that the 2018 CX-9 is the best so far. Comfortable, great ride, good power. lots of room. Overall just a awesome car. We purchased the car from Classic Of Denton in Texas. Don Johnson was the sales rep and he did a great job, highly recommend him for your next purchase. Now lets talk about all the BS games dealerships play. We arrived around noon and left around 5. One thing after another, "i can't sell a car that cheap, We are losing money on this car, we are processing the paperwork......" the list went on and on. Its not the sales guys fault, its the process the dealerships build in to wear you down.I hate the process. Finance, what a high pressure sales environment, 10 grand down and he insisted I needed GAP insurance, if this car depreciates fast enough for me to need GAP insurance that says the car is bad. extended warranty, paint chip protection,,,, would not stop, Process took 3 times as long as it should have because of all the repeated high pressure sales techniques. I am glad I bought the car, I am happy with Don Johnson but classic needs to understand my time is valuable. next time if I am not signing papers within an hour I am out of there.

Style Plus Bling
On the negative side: The high end Bose Centerpoint audio system in the Grand Touring is a big disappointment. Overall muddy sound. Distinctly lacking in clear tonality, particularly in the mid-range. Front seat bottom cushions are too short. The turbo 4 cylinder is fine at highway speeds, but it sounds unrefined when accelerating and at lower speeds. Feels like a cheap engine. Not enough miles behind the wheel to judge fuel economy, but dipping into the turbo drives down the mpg. On the positive side: Very good styling. Quality of interior materials is good. Instrumentation good. Control interface is good. Heads up display is very good and it now projects onto the windshield. Handles way better than the Highlander.

2018 Mazda CX 9
Seats are heated, but not air cooled! Getting out is kinda akward, but not too uncomfortable. Air conditioning controls could have been in a little more user friendly location. GPS would definitely been better had it had real time traffic conditions, and capability to zoom into current location. Biggest issue is the safety system shuts down in hot weather!! Why sell this vehicle in Arizona, if it CAN'T HANDLE THE TEMPERATURE? And again, why aren't the seats cooled?? Heated seats in Arizona?? Air conditioning works great in the rear, but really lacks output on the outer vents in front. Gas mileage is closer to 23-24mpg, which isn't too impressive for this type of vehicle.

Peppy, High Tech, when I have it...
This is our first Mazda and SUV. We got a reasonable price on a demonstrator with about 10 thousand miles. It’s got MANY wonderful features, one of my favorite is the Heads Up display with Navigation which pulls together in a very nice format, the blindspot indicators, speed, speed setting, variable cruise control status, lane keep monitor, turn directions and even stop sign indicators. Very top notch. Lane keeping doesn’t “keep” as much as it indicates. Still disappointed that they don’t make a kick-under rear door opener - but it is automatic. Seriously Mazda, that is it’s only deisgn miss. On issues after delivery, the intermittent wipers didn’t work correctly. The Nav would not take verbal destination instruction, even when stopped - the dealer is working on that. Not to worry, the dealer said they would fix it all at no charge - and provided a Mazda 6 loaner. Then the wrong part showed up in the correct box. Then the correct part in the correct box came. But alas, the windshield is apparently malformed or mis-installed and was replaced. Not to worry, dealer covered new windshield. I really like this peppy SUV, when it’s in my possession. Good news is that the people in service are nice to deal with. I hope this isn’t a sign of things to come.

We loved our CX-9 ...and then it was destroyed.
Bought a CX-9 for the 7 pax seating. The looks of the 2018+ are sleek and beautiful. We went all-in with the Signature because that Auburn Leather and real wood interior was very upscale (closer to an Audi or Jaguar interior). It can take Premium gas (250hp/310torque) or enjoy the exact same torque on regular unleaded (227hp/310torque) ...SUCH a plus to be able to pay the regular gas prices vs $1-$2 more per gallon....MANY of the Mazda's competitors are premium only! Fun to drive and plenty of seating options and the middle seats recline some too. Thanksgiving 2022 at 41,000miles we were hit head-on by a semi truck(offset frontal) and every safety feature this car has worked as designed. Anti-lock brakes, seatbelt pretentioners (front seats) and seatbelt load relief (front seats) front and side curtain airbags, lumbar bag (driver) all deployed. A violent abrupt stop against a rock. This Mazda 100% surely lessened our injuries (3 adult passengers, 1 behind the driver). The engine auto shutoff while leaving the accessories on and the Andriod Carplay dialed 911 since there was a bluetooth connected phone. We hate to lose our fancy CX-9, but it left us with the biggest going-away present ever. Witnesses couldnt believe 2 walked out and the other carried out and conscious. Broken jaw for on one, broken hand on one. All went to hospital, none were admitted, just treated and released. A very bad accident and Mazda CX-9s safety features were the difference. Thank you Mazda.

Had a yen
It is difficult to access the third row of seats. I wish the rear hatch raised a bit higher. I am 6’ 1” and I hit my head on it all the time.

Like our CX5 but more room
We love our CX5 Grand Touring AWD and love our CX9 Grand Touring AWD as much or more so. The CX9 has more room which is great since we have two 40 pound dogs and travel a bit with them cross country. Besides performance which is fantastic, the heads up display works great and offers a high level of safety features. We also have Android Auto installed which replaces the terrible navigation system used by Mazda. The gas mileage is not as good as our CX5 but still mid 20s. Mazda makes a great car that is fun and safe to drive

Best SUV for your money in my book, ZOOM! ZOOM!!!
Just bought a 2018 Mazda CX 9 Touring with Premium option package, Vehicle has 23000 miles on it, and so far I am totally satisfied! AWD works great! Gas mileage is good, Turbo gives you more than you need in power! Bose Centerpoint sound system is Awesome! The infotainment center is user friendly, and heated seats are great. Luxurious Leather interior All in All I would buy another one of these in a Heartbeat! Try it Youll Like it! Best Trade I ever made, got rid of a 2009 Saturn Outlook and dont regret that at all!!! :)

Family and sport car
CX-9 signature is a piece of art with high technology and safety car. very nice SUV car that can combine sporty car with family car has 7 seats. this car has 2 missing points : 1. Steering is heavy comparing with all cars specially for ladies . 2. The voice of the engine is inside the car, the isolation system between the engine and the inside cabin of the car is bad ...If those 2 points are modified then I am sure it is the best SUV with 7 seats in the market and will beat the luxury cars .

Not without it's faults
I bought my 2018 Touring as a CPO. I fell in love with the car during the test drive. Responsive, hugs corners, handles well, and smooth transmission. The safety tech on it works well without it being annoying. The infotainment is VERY dated, no XM radio on Touring or Sport trims. It takes mine about 3 minutes to load and then freezes on the warning screen for another minute. The upgrade of Apple Car play give this infotainment some much needed updates, BUT, the usb plug is in the center console so you have a cable running from the center console to where you put your phone. (I can't tell you how many times I've grabbed my cable shifting the car. Don't bother having anything tall in the driver side cup holder. It can make it hard to shift the car. This car is definitely not for families with children in car seats. We have two kids rear facing and the car seat fill up the 2nd row. Add a double stroller and with the 3rd row down, you have limited space left. Also there is NO storage! You have the center console, small glove box, and very small under cargo behind the 3rd row. The seats in the touring are not comfortable. They are stiff and it's hard for me to get comfortable. Overall the car is a good car. I haven't had any major issues with it. Other than mentioned above I like the car. Not sure I'll be keeping if for long because I doesn't fit our family. But if you're looking for a reliable and fun 3 row suv to drive, I'd definitely consider the Cx9.
Luxury Feel, Reasonable Price
Purchased a new 2018 CX-9 about 5 months ago and we absolutely love it so far. The interior has that luxury feel and all the controls (audio, climate, etc...) just make sense. They include a combination of dial and touchscreen—as opposed to some other cars where it all relies on touch screen interface. Only two drawbacks with this car is 1. Doesn’t have the same pick-up as the smaller/lighter CX-5 and 2. Apple CarPlay was not yet standard (should’ve held out for 2019).

Traded my MX5 for the CX9
Love it!!! I went from a Yukon XL to a Chevy truck and an MX5 for fun, but quickly found out that I needed much more room. I traded my MX5 for the CX9 and have absolutely no regrets. I love everything about it and so does my family.

Simply put, FUN to drive!
Our model trim is Grand Touring and it is a perfect name because it truly is a grand touring! Very peppy - wow me every single time. Especially coming from a small 4 cylinders engine (turbo). The power goes straight to all 4 wheels right away! Love that calm drive on the interstate/ hwy. Adaptive cruise control does its’ job very well and accurate - does not cut off the cruise control at a slower speed. If it stops during traffic on the hwy, just tap lightly on the gas pedal, it will just resume along with the traffic flow and up to the speed you set. Head up display is a real cool feature. I had a Dodge Durango for 13 years, an excellent vehicle; kids all grown up and moved out - a perfect downsize.

Display Spider cracks , engine, control arms
I had spider cracks on the display at 106k miles. Even though 2018 Cx-9 isn’t in the recall list but Corporate was willing to replace mine for free. I had to insist dealer to work with corporate on this. It worked! My engine also got heated at 78k miles. Corporate was willing to replace the engine but I had to pay for $2500 labor. It should be all free. There’s a class action going on for the faulty engine. I also had to replace control arm due to bad bushing. This is out of my pocket but it should be covered my corporate. Other than these issues, this car is good. Still driving well after 110 k miles. Hope this helps

Razorback Red
Because of Edmunds' website, we knew what we were getting because of the information and reviews they provided from previous buyers. But until we became owners of this particular vehicle, we didn't have the full throttle of what a nice overall vehicle this really was. We drove eight hours away to purchase this vehicle because the dealerships where we live didn't have the exact package we were looking for. We have now owned our car for 6 months. Still extremely happy with the car. Still get great mileage, great driving car, fits 7 people very nicely. the information we got from Edmonds car review was spot on and all the information we got was completely correct. Very happy we used Edmonds when looking for our car.
