I chose the Mazda6 after having driven a Camry for 12 years. While I have no specific complaints about the Camry, it wasn't exactly fun to drive and the styling was pretty much the definition of generic. Before looking at the Mazda6, I test drove the Toyota lineup (Camry, Corolla, and Prius), and just couldn't get too excited about them. After reading reviews on Edmunds.com and several other sites, I decided to take a look at the Mazda lineup. Both the 6 and the 3 met every criteria on my list; low cost, good performance, good mileage, and distinctive styling. I am very happy with the mileage numbers I have been getting, well above the published numbers so far. The styling of the Mazda6 is also very satisfying, it has a distinctive look that separates it from most of the other sedans on the road which all seem to have the same basic derivative designs.

The Mazda 6 is a sporty looking car with enough engine power to get me on the highway off the notoriously short on-ramps of Pittsburgh. Especially when sport mode or the manual shift is engaged. The infotainment system was good but not great. However, there are modifications that can be made to make your car feel more personal and stylized. Overall I've been enjoying my car.

Update to the below original review. This car at over 130k miles drives like a new car still, and looks new also, both on the inside and out. I have only performed basic maintenance on it, all at the dealership, and aside from that nothing else. Car has not had a single issue, and the relatively quick brake wearing has gone to what I consider normal, new pads every 60k+ miles. I still love this car! I am just furious that Mazda has stopped making it, as I wanted to purchase another 6, or a Mazda EV, neither of which they will make in the near future. I am the typical car guy, obsessed with cars, and I’ve owned everything from Honda’s, Acuras, Toyotas and many muscle and sports cars. But never a Mazda because on paper they always seemed under-powered, which to me meant no fun. Boy was I wrong! First of all the car is gorgeous inside and out. I have family members who own high end luxury cars and every time they get in my car they are amazed at the quality, stating that my Mazda is nicer than their cars which cost 2-3x more. The comfort and room in the car is great and the practicality of the car is amazing. I have easily fit a 60” TV fully boxed up in the trunk area when the seats are folded down. My children, one of which is 6’6” tall, sit in the back seat with comfort. The only thing I notice a bit is that when larger friends (over 6 feet tall and over 250 pounds) get in the passenger front seat it can be a bit of a challenge. In terms of performance, gas mileage and reliability, all fantastic. The car zips around town and on the highway, I’ve never wanted for more power (and my last two cars were 500+ hp cars). Gas mileage is amazing. If you drive the car with care, you will easily get the sticker mileage. I personally on several round-trip 500 mile round trips have done 42 mpg when I use ethanol free gas and keep the speed to 65 mph and drive the car very gently (less than 2000 rpms is the sweet spot for mileage). Without using ethanol free gas and driving with a heavier foot I will get 32-35 mpg all around town and on the highway. It terms of cost of ownership the car practically pays me. I have a 2016 with 80,000 miles (purchased in 2015) and I take it to the dealership for all maintenance and I have only done oil changes every 5-7k miles, rotated the tires and changed the coolant once. No transmission service on this, which is crazy. I practically begged the dealership to service the transmission and they said it is not needed on this car. Also the Mazda dealership always puts me in for a $20 coupon with Castrol Oil which I get in the mail, so my regular synthetic oil service costs me about $40. Reliability has been great. The only odd item I have had is that at about every 30k miles I have had to have the brakes rotors turned as they seem to warp fairly easily. The electronics in the car are by far the easiest to use of all manufacturers. I travel a lot for my job and use many rental cars, and the Mazda infotainment system is a joy and very intuitive to use. In terms of fun to drive the car is a blast, no it is obviously not a muscle car with huge power, but it handles fantastic, shifts great, and is too much fun to drive. Usually after 2-3 years I get the itch for a new toy, but not the case with this car, I love it more than the day I purchased it. In summary all I can say is that Mazda has made me a customer for life, I actually just bought my son a Mazda3 which we all love to drive, and I look forward to my next Mazda purchase!

This is my third Mazda and the first one I've Leased. I owned 2008 Mazda 3 and a 2012 Mazda 3, which I liked but the 2016 Mazda 6 Touring is a Completely different car...and in a good way. The car really looks great Inside and out. I have the "Soul Red" with a Sand Interior...a very nice combination. Driving, it feels taut and competent with very adequate power, unless you're a street racer. The Auto Trans shifts very smoothly. It is Fun to drive. I Love having the Rear Camera, Blind Spot and Cross Traffic Monitoring, something I think EVERY Car should have. I had rented a Volvo S-60 for 23 days (and 1,600 miles) just before getting the Mazda 6 (due to an accident). I liked it. But the Volvo costs $10,000 MORE than the Mazda 6 and IF they were the same Price....I'd Buy the Mazda 6! I test drove a lot of cars, actually every car in this segment. Most of these cars were good and I could have happily lived with them, but the Mazda 6 was the Best without a doubt....Oh, I forgot to mention how good the A/C is. I live in South Florida and it IS Hot here but the A/C in this car is More Than Up to The Task...

I owned a Mazda (Tribute) for 12 years, and was happy and comfortable with Mazda. I went in for another SUV (CX-5), but sat in the Mazda 6 and really liked it. Then I drove it, and like it even more. Then I purchased it, and really fell in love with it. It has everything you need in a mid-sized sedan, plus it has that famous Mazda Zoom-Zoom. Plenty of electronics, full luxury package. I especially like the split back seats that can be laid flat and goes through to the truck. You can fit something six feet long in there, which gives the vehicle tremendous flexibility. The car handles great (in the Sport mode), looks great, and feels great.
